1. Former guard living in Israel
(09.04.13)
Does Israel extradite its citizens to other countries? Otherwise it would be pretty awkward, if Germany wants to put the guard on trial, and Israel refuses to hand him over. Furthermore, if he's an Israeli citizen, he might be a Jew, so probably a former Kapo? Germany putting a Jew on trial for Holocaust crimes... oh dear, hardly imaginable for obvious reasons. That guy might cause trouble for both countries; best Germany closes the case and let Israel deal with him.

3. Nazi war criminals turn up in the most unlikely places

About 30 years ago, a war criminal turned up in Toronto, Canada. Here's the weird part. He was living in a condo building that was heavily Jewish. He was a Lithuanian national who had joined the SS as an auxiliary. If he was such a Jew-hater, why live among them in the same building? What happened to him, you ask? One of his victims recognized him and he was caught. He was expelled from the country and tried and convicted. But still, why would he live amongst the very people he was taught to hate? Maybe he thought that this would be the last place the authorities would think to look for him. His name was Helmut Rauca.
