A few "fun facts" about S-300 systems: (1) They can be fully functional within 30 minutes of rolling off a transport aircraft. (2) Russia is currently deploying S-400 systems widely and testing S-500 systems with deployment planned within 3 years. (3) this means there are LOTS of surplus S-300 systems available today for deployment in Syria, Iran and elsewhere.(4) If the US keeps pushing Russia, the skies over most of the ME will be very, very unsafe for American and Israeli pilots. (5) S-300 systems in Syria would make the skies over Lebanon very unsafe for the IDF (perfectly "legal" if Lebanon asks for Syrian help). Then again, Russia may "loan" S-300 systems directly to Lebanon.

I am not fully decided on whether it is a good idea to support a limited American bombing campaign on Syria. The casino that is the US economy is bankrupt. It is interesting that is for sure, however I think there has been a subtle shift by Putin today, where he has asked to see the proof, which is a step change from previous statements. There is a huge difference between 1st world missile crews and 2nd/3rd world crews. Also note that the radar signatures for many of the S-300 variants are quite well known, (the S-300PMU1, S-300PMU2 Favorit [SA-20]), first provided by Greece’s system then a few other Western-friendly govt’s.
