1. Unpredictable
Lord Sandwich   (09.06.13)
Obviously, good Israeli-Turkish ties are important for both countries. The problem with Erdogan is that he's so hard to predict that you never know what he's going to do or say next.
2. smfargo1@gmail.com
Shep Fargotstein ,   United States   (09.06.13)
It obvious that Turkey wanting to mend fences with Israel is suspect and Israel would be smart to not get involved in any military adventure vis-a-vis Syria that would advantage Turkey. Just last week Erdogan accused Israel of instigating the overthrow of the MB in Egypt and of conspiring against Turkey financially. Erdogan is a sheep in wolf's clothing.
3. What a sudden thaw in relations!
Jay   (09.06.13)
Is it a change of heart? Or a change of friends? Thats right Erdogan no longer has a bromance with Assad!
4. political dialogue
anton ,   istanbul   (09.06.13)
is good but future cooperations should not extend to defense projects for various reasons.
5. Turkey going backward
Sidney ,   USA   (09.06.13)
Kamal Ataturk: For nearly five hundred years, these rules and theories [regarding civil and criminal law] of an Arab Shaikh and the interpretations of generations of lazy and good-for-nothing priests have decided the civil and criminal law of Turkey. They have decided the form of the Constitution, the details of the lives of each Turk, his food, his hours of rising and sleeping the shape of his clothes, the routine of the midwife who produced his children, what he learned in his schools, his customs, his thoughts-even his most intimate habits. This theology of an immoral Arab [presented as Islam] is a dead thing. Possibly it might have suited tribes in the desert. It is no good for modern, progressive state.
6. Israel should demand a formal apology
Barry ,   Tokyo   (09.06.13)
From this anti-Semitic Muslim Brotherhood thug before improving relations. Erdogan suffers from a sinking currency, Syrian refugee problem, disasterous outreach to the Muslim world, street riots and shrinking prestige worldwide. His only remaining friend in the region is Hamas! Let him deal with the mess he created until his people throw him out of power like Egypt. Israel can resume her civilized relationship when Turkey returns to her Kemalist roots.
7. Turkey, having failed at "Zero Problems with Neighbors">
HaifaGuy   (09.06.13)
>policy has decided to try "Zero Problems w/one Neighbor " instead. Truly pathetic, and Anton, we don't really need you that much anyway. I'll take the Greeks over your ilk anytime.
8. so, erdogan
(09.06.13)
now you need israel to protect you....this is why you are soft now. moron.
9. Israel`s turn to DEMAND an apology now!
Ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (09.06.13)
for trying to turn us into scapegoats for all of the middleeast`s problems!
10. interesting timing...
Jeff ,   USA   (09.06.13)
Right after Turkey pressed Obama hard to respond to Assad's chemical weapons use and Obama apparently agreed, the Turks all of a sudden claim to be ready to bury the hatchet with Israel... is this really a coincidence?? "OK I'll do this for you, but part of the deal here is that all this trouble you've been giving the Israelis has to end now..."
11. Great, again the "underprivileged,Israeli tourists can flock
tom ,   tel aviv   (09.06.13)
to Turkey & get their "free" hotel towels & water faucets...and why not. The rest is insignificant.
12. tell the turks to take a hike
sidharta ,   malibu, CA   (09.06.13)
there is no reason to trust the dog that bite you after he has done it again and again. Israel has nothing to gain from having ambassador there. You get all the economic benefits and it is as far as it is going. the dog is a fanatic med dog. they need Israel more now that there economy is about to implode and they have been rejected by all their neighbors politically.
13. #4
Oleg ,   Canada   (09.06.13)
Everything is driven by economy. If Israel has better arms than Russia and cheaper than US (and comparable), then Turkey would select Israel. It's not just up to Turkey though. May be Israel might be cautious selling advanced hardware to Turkey as long as Erdogan and his party is around.

you are right. as to defense projects, it is israel who mainly has the defense knowhow and turkey, who always benefited from this israeli knowhow. israeli drones to erdogan, etc... israel has nothing to loose if erdogan doesn't have military knowhow cooperation with israel. turkey is the one to loose because turkish army compared to israeli army and high tech is not very good. now, erdogan wants to use israel to get her on his side to attack syria. won;t happen. erdogan using israel as its ally now is way too late. israel will not be pulled into this islamic death trap because erdogan now wants to make nice with israel. it is way too late. and by the way, wans't this turkish moron leader say just last week that israel was behind the uprising in egypt and the deposing of the muslim brotherhood and that israel, and particularly the "jewish lobby" were responsible for the demonstrations in taksim square in istanbul. you can have it both ways, anton. think.
15. Public Apology, Compensation, lifting of Gaza siege
lydia ,   Brisbane   (09.06.13)
If not Erdogan is just a p***y
16. Anton. It would be good if you
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (09.06.13)
Would enlighten all of us by listing those reasons. The way I see it this warming up in relations are due to the imminent attack on syria that Erdogan is very eager to start . Erdogan knows that during the military conflict in Syria he needs Israeli support. And obviously Israel always prefer to have friends rather then goes. All military reasons as far as I see. I am really wondering your list of obvious reasons.
17. Take your normalization and shove it up your gobble gobble!
Ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (09.06.13)
No offense to the Turkish people!! just your Islamist leaders!
18. muhaidin on the loose
Chaim ,   Yerushalaim   (09.06.13)
this ape is more crazy and dangerous than any persian muhaidin
19. Erdogan: Please don't believe this crazy fellow
carlos ,   San Diego CA   (09.06.13)
20. fuggetaboutit!
tom ,   toronto, canada   (09.06.13)
israel has been strong-armed by washington into making nice with turkey, despite turkey's support for gazan terrorism, and despite erdogan's repeated attempts to humiliate israel. enough is enough! this latest round of anonymous disclosures in the press, with full official deniability, is motivated by nothing more turkey's cowardice in the face of syrian threats, and is just erdogan trying to sucker israel into covering his "bravado". maybe he can get some "coverage" from his best friend, barack hussein obama.
21. Don't trust them
Barney ,   USA   (09.06.13)
Their words mean nothing. It is where the heart is and that is evident. Erdogan is no good
22. erdogan alienates everyone, he's nuts
bernard ross   (09.06.13)
23. If this is true, this means that Bibi caved in again.
J'm Jew ,   Jerusalem   (09.06.13)
24. Istan-BULL
Cheryl ,   Chicago, IL   (09.06.13)
The Flotilla and the Mavi Marmari were used for terrorism against Israel. Turkey should apologize. These "talks" are Instan-BULL!
25. Why on earth ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.06.13)
... would Israel be interested in good relations with a rotting corpse? Turkey has always straddled the Western and the Islamic worlds. They have made their choice. Time to consign Turkey to the garbage heap where it belongs. Still the sick man of Europe. No interest here, either.
26. In other words, The war is on the horizon, ally.
BUILD BABY BUILD !!! ,   United States   (09.06.13)
Ironically, both Turkey and Israel would be allies in any strike against Syria.. What 'apology', what 'compensation'? Pass the ammunition 'comrade.' Who nu? BUILD FASTER END GAME.

well, another way to look at the situation is this, Turkey has how many Syrian refugee's to care for now? And the other bordering Syrian nations also becoming 'nanny's for them due to this crisis? And the cost to them? And, the fact many of them will retain these poor bastards for years to come? Not to mention, famine, diseases, lost loved one, orphans. "Vengeance is Mine saith the Lord." He meant it.

moishe   (09.08.13)
you cant have a good relationship with a person you cant trust! Erdogan! who is being shunned by States that matter because they also don't trust him. I don't think Israel leaders trust him also.
