1. legalize it!!!!
American Citizen ,   Jamaica Town   (09.06.13)
It'll happened eventually everywhere, so why wait, being the most advanced marujuana country in the world...
2. In the words of John Mayer: "Who says...
Gunnar ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (09.06.13)
...you can't get stoned". If we allow people to drink whatever they want, why not not let them smoke whatever they want?
3. Marijuana is not harmful and is actually a very good drug
mea   (09.06.13)
As a nurse I saw many patients using marijuana without the side effects associated with anti-depressives and pain killers. In fact when you compare the horrific damage done with oxycontin and oxycodone, marijuana, which is a very effective pain killer, is a safer bet all the way around. It is especially absurd to see the billions if not trillions of tax dollars being flushed into the black market. Legalize marijuana and re-focus policing efforts onto more vital areas of need.
4. Uh-oh...
Rex ,   London   (09.06.13)
Oh no! Someone's trying to bring rational thought and peer-reviewed evidence into our purely political drugs use discourse! Won't somebody, please, think of the children!
5. The author misses a really important point about the sale
rachel ,   tel aviv israel   (09.06.13)
and use of marijuana here in Israel. Namely, that the continued sale of drugs which are illegal here supports and funds terror activities. Even the CIA keeps tabs on how Hezbollah hides drug money in laundering it abroad. This is really how terrorists get money in the first place to buy weapons. They do not have to rob banks. All they have to do is control the growth and sale of illegal drugs worldwide and they do to the tune of billions of dollars each year.
6. It makes sense to legalize it
Chimo ,   USA   (09.06.13)
As someone who has been partaking for more than a few years, After my operation for esophageal cancer in which they removed my esophagus completely, in the first 2 months I lost almost 50 lbs because I could not eat properly, every morning I woke up and threw up, and then could not get hungry at all. When I took that first hit, within 20 minutes, I wanted food, and slowly but surely my throat got better and the weed allowed me to eat until my weight went back to normal. I stopped drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes since then and am now in great health, 7 years after the operation, No Cancer at all!!!.Legalize it!!!!, but keep it away from kids, just like with alcohol
7. Dude Is It 4:20 Yet??? :>)

There are already so many compelling reasons for doing so.
10. Sales fund terrorism!!!
Former smoker ,   NY   (09.07.13)
Legalize it, the proceeds from illegal hashish sales fund terrorism!!! And the hashish is laced with harmful compounds. I have no doubt that the manufacturers poison "the Israeli batch." LEGALIZE!

Eli ,   Rehovot   (09.07.13)
"The next step should be the detachment of the cannabis market from the criminal elements that control it and turning the supervision over to the State." I am having difficulty seeing the difference. No, I am not high.

canabis delays, ande deaaccelerates dementia, inclouding Alzheimer's
16. Legalization now!
IvaN ,   Haifa   (09.08.13)
17. My neighbour's cousin's son-in-law . . .
Danny ,   London England   (09.09.13)
There is apparently medical evidence that long term use of marijuanah can be harmful. Legislators need to study all the evidence. Once it's legalised like tobacco and alcohol it will be too difficult to turn back the clock. Perhaps we should legalise prostitution too, as that's supposed to be relaxing, if I can believe my neighbour's cousin's son-in-law.
18. Lapid is after the populist vote again
zionist forever   (09.09.13)
He did very well because his campaign was pretty much only haredi bashing and with the average secular Jew liking terrorists better than hared it went down well. When it came to actually doing the real work of an MK he screwed up and is now one of the most unpopular politicians. He knows he can't continue to rely on haredi bashing to win him Knesset egalseats so he is going after the youth vote with talking about making marijuana. Not actually going to do anything for the country other than encouraging smoking pot and driving but it will go down very well amongst the youth especially those who are bored with the politicians who look and act like politicians like Bibi, Shelly and Bennet. Making a big issue over issues like this just go towards proving Lapid is irresponsible and the less power he has the better the country will be.
19. degenerates go home to europe and usa
larry ,   LA   (09.09.13)
doing drugs is a great high and you end up paying for it with your life. send these degenerates to europe and usa, keep israel clean morally and ethically!!
20. Stop The Drug War
Yossef Carnevale ,   Sao Paulo - Brasil   (09.09.13)
I believe that this initiative cannot be adopted by a political party, because this important question will be among lots of other political positions which may jeopardize the cause. This is a very sensitive subject and must be treated alone within all society. In USA, Brasil and other countries there is a very interesting movement from people (Cops, Judges and attorneys) who fought the Drug War and now are quite sure that this is not a good way to their citizens nor to their countries. It is called LEAP – Law Enforcement Against Prohibition. Their arguments are logic and crystal clear. They have lots of data of all countries that decided to follow this new way to deal with drugs. Of course, there are lots of measures regarding education and social health that must be taken in order to fully explain the danger of addiction.
