31. Great philosopher Neville Chamberlain
Sidney ,   USA   (09.08.13)
The author is obviously an expert in the philosophy of Neville Chamberlain. Give your enemy everything that he wants and peace inevitably follows. This is absolutely true. As critics of this school of thought have pointed out, it is the peace of the grave. But, hey, what other philosophy doesn't have some flaws.

much obliged for the compliments :) you have built your argument on the basis of being the right side, i see no diffrence between your aproach and arabs they claim to be right as well :) israel is continously setteling on palesteians lands and being enemy of arabs gives arabs enough reason to go nuclear dont yout think ? anyone who says their nucs are for self defense is just lying :)

And you surprised why your country didn't get Olympics? When someone on the forum calls to nuke someone It is one person's opinion but when leader of Iran do that practically every day this is a danger to a nation and a region in general. In the case of the US using nukes on Japan, it was needed to save millions of lives on both sides if the war with Japan would go for few more years.
35. And strong defense
mohamed ,   Canada   (09.08.13)
If Israel intended to use nuclear weapons in an offensive they would have 30 years ago. Arabs assume the zionist regime have them cuz Jews are smart and figured out how to make them with Allah's blessing. Even when attacked by hez, continuous Gaza rockets, pressured to make concessions to plo, hreatened by Assad chemical wmd they don't. We need to accept jews want peace in their ancient homeland and end the jihad within our hearts.

38. "Occupation" fever
Wade ,   NYC USA   (09.08.13)
Only those stuck on the left-leaning groove of a broken record believe that the "occupation" is the main obstacle to peace. Prevalent Palestinian attitudes reject any Jewish statehood.
39. Beware
Rick ,   USA   (09.08.13)
A country ran by philosophers would be a place where neither its politics nor its pipes would hold any water. Keep these " deep thinkers" out of real world decisions.
40. Yuval - Not "Occupation" its "Reclaimation" and its ok

It is so funny to think that there would be peace in middle east if Israel disarm nucs. The day Israel disarmed the day Israel wiped. It is about religion, not else. All muslims/arabs hate Israel. Islam faith does not allow muslims to co-exist with any jews. Sadly, so many USEFUL IDIOTS in Israel n west n united nation are making way for Israel destruction.
42. This loon never heard of North Korea
Jake   (09.08.13)
that signed the NPT and ditched it after developing nuclear weapons? That's the precedent Iran will follow. And he wants Israel nuke-free?

All long of history the world wanted to prevent the jew of souverainity and capacity to defend itself. They wanted him to be an easy victim. FORGET IT; NO MORE FREE LUNCH NOW YOU PAY !

solomon ,   bklyn   (09.08.13)
You once again show your willful blindness to facts and reality. The oft repeated saying “If the arabs would lay down their arms, there would be peace; if Israel would lay down its arms , it would be destroyed” is true. None of your ridiculous posts have any relation to the real world. I suggest you start by reading some history instead of making it up. (Peter- you trust Iran? Proof of my points in this post.)
46. #26 son - true!
solomon ,   bklyn   (09.08.13)
Whether you meant your post seriously or not, it so happens that its true! (See Klavan on the Culture; one Jewish state in the entire ME)

this article would stick out like a sore thumb.
49. It's not just a question of nuclear armaments
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (09.08.13)
Mr Eylon must have tunnel vision if he can only see nuclear weapons. The problems are weapons of mass destruction of all sorts and the will of some to use them. Recent events suggest that if Israel were to give up its nuclear arsenal,if it has one, today, the Assad regime will attack Israel with nerve agents tomorrow. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
50. So right
Biglounet ,   Paris France   (09.08.13)
And as a consequence Israël should not try to strike Iran's nuclear facilities without first obtaining huge compensations on other fronts, for instance backing of Saudi Arabia in the conflict with palestinians and diplomatic issues with the arab world.
51. Israel will NOT commit national suicide
Roland R.Berger ,   Alberton,South Afric   (09.08.13)
Intersting. if Mr.Yuval Eylon has any intention to commit suicide,he can do it any time in the near-future,using any possible means. However,Israel as a whole nation has no interest to do so,so stands to reason that it will NEVER surrender its nuclear arsenal.
52. Get real.
Eliyahu ,   USA   (09.08.13)
How can someone have the gall to imply that Israel should disarm itself of nuclear weapons when it is surrounded by vastly larger countries where Muslim fanatics are bent on its destruction? Why doesn’t the world outlaw Islam which calls for the destruction of the Jews and the subjugation of the infidels (non-believers) worldwide? What is even more baffling it’s a religion that also implies that Jews are descendants of apes and pigs, when they consider Abraham to also be their patriarch? How can such a religion still exist in this day and age? It seems to me that anyone seeking to have Israel disarm itself is also seeking for Israel’s destruction.
53. If this nonsense can be posted here....
Andy ,   Washington, DC   (09.08.13)
it means only that Israel has a very free press. Even morons have their say. On this fast of Gedalliah, let us all remember that "never again" means just that. We aren't going quietly this time, Yuval.
54. Hey Yuval Eylon, do you 'occupy' your home?
Grace ,   USA   (09.08.13)
Israel has every right to live and enjoy their land. Claiming they 'occupy' it smacks of illegitimacy when in fact there is so much historical evidence that it is indeed their land that the those who claim otherwise reveal their own ignorance of history. Where do you think they came from? Where was their origin? Europe? Think that through just a little and examine the facts of the Bible (and don't forget the proofs of the Dead Sea Scrolls) then consider what happened during the occupation of Jerusalem and the rest of Israel by Rome in the first century AD and the destruction of the second temple on the Temple Mount in 70AD. Do a little research before writing and save yourself some embarrassment. Get out of the Philosophy department and hit the history department.
55. Department of Philosophy??
Moe ,   Israel   (09.08.13)
Seriously. Ynet? An op-ed on Israeli security from a freakin' philosopher?? How about medical advice from a theatre major? That would be just as useful.

When rabid anti-semites call an article by an "Israeli" author "excellent", it underscores just how demented the Israeli author must be.

"saved lives of millions" pricesless :D Nothing funny but reality of life. You should read more history books... Regarding your first paragraph, how naïve or stupid you are it is not up to me to judge...
58. #55 :-)

Moe, Open University is well respected around moronic circles.:-))
59. The reasons for Israeli nukes still exist
Yael Schlichting ,   currently Munich   (09.08.13)
Even if Iran had no nuclear capability, Israel needs a strong deterrent against powers like Egypt ans Syria. Worse: Arab powers tend to jointly strike against Israel. Israel cannot effort to get into a situation, where the lines of defense get stuck and a war turns in a war of attrition. It would bleed out Israel. Please never forget the original calculus on Israeli nukes. No matter if Israel really has nukes or not.
60. TO ??? # 9
FO ,   Belgium   (09.08.13)
You wrote:..."the same Leftists who imported Arafat, gave Lebanon to Hezbolla and gave Gaza to Hamas". And I would add, the same Leftists, headed by Weizmann and Sokolow who disowned the Jewish State proposed by the League of Nations in 1922 and brought upon the Jewish people the biggest tragedy of its history, the Shoah., by not having an independent state that could have been born before WW II. I disagree with you, when you write that Rabin imported the PLO. In an interview to the Belgian TV, Rabin said; "The so-called PLO will never be part for negotiations. It does not mean that Israel does not see that there is a Palestinian issue. We believe that the Palestinian issue can and should be solved in a context of peace that will be negotiated between Israel and Jordan. With Jordan we have got borders, south of the Dead Sea, till the Golf of Aqaba, north of the West Bank, along the Beit Shean Valley, and the Jordan Valley. Therefore, in a solution, peace solution between Jordan and Israel, I believe that the Palestinian issue can be solved in a way that the Palestinians will find their right to express their special identity, but, it will never be trough the so called PLO or through a third independent state. Because a third independent state between Jordan and Israel cannot solve the Palestinian issue, and will serve as a time bomb against Jordan as well as against Israel". Rather amazing, isn't it? So, what happened to Rabin? Well, he has been pushed in his back by his party, and mainly by his challenger, Peres, to accept and sign what he totally disagreed with.
