1. I have no love for Assad...

His regime was and still is one of the two main supporters of Hezbolah. He had plans to do us harm in the future, we bombed his secret nuke site. We are aware of his alliance with Iran. The Syrians are a cruel and barbarous people they proved that to our soldiers that they took as prisoners in the wars we fought with them. This destruction of Syria and eventually the whole of Damascus is divinely ordained and enforced. God is punishing Syria as He promised he would.

5. Assad is bad but al-Nusra is far worse
Nick Z ,   New York, NY USA   (09.08.13)
But is does not follow that we should overthrow Assad, when it is obvious that al-Nusra would take over and muscle out moderates, if there are even any of those left. al-Nusra will kill far more people than they have already killed. Why should the West or anyone aid these jihadists? Shouldn't there be a viable alternative before the government is overthrown and the naive West trusts that the jihadists will magically impose democracy as in Egypt and Iraq? More people died in Iraq after Saddam Hussein; and Syria will be worse if the West intervenes. God grant that we don't get involved in yet another Mideast misadventure.

Non-Muslim nations DO NOT get involved! Let the sunnis, shites, sufis, alawites, and all the other sects go at it. When the dust settles there would be a much clearer solution for the civilized non-Muslim world. There will be no benefit from siding with any of the sects at this point in time.
