1. Further clarification of 'moser'
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (09.11.13)
The concept of a moser or informer means that in a place where Jews are denied justice and likely to be tortured or executed unjustly a Jew may not turn over another Jew to such a govt. This may be why Satmar are saying he was treated worse because he was Jewish. Initially he was given 103 years, later reduced to 50 years.
2. Not that she kicked out by Satmar
Shalom ,   Ashdod, IL   (09.11.13)
she is welcome to join the real Jews who respect the sanctity of a shul as well as the days of Awe. Girl, more power to you; leave those scumbags and join the rest of us
3. Same as Muslim, blame the victim.
Liam ,   Canada   (09.11.13)
Shame shame shame shame shame shame
4. The Chassidim are becoming an inbred group of
Al   (09.11.13)
out and out freaks. They represent no one but themselves. Its time that normal Jews cut them loose. They have become an outrage to any normal thinking person. I would counsel the young lady along with her husband to leave this gang and make their lives in a normal Jewish community.
5. Horrible Hillul HaShem.. Hashem yerachem.
Jewish Oleh ,   Y'layim, IL   (09.11.13)
6. No different from Muslims!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (09.11.13)
Islamic countries do the same thing - blame the victim! I am so ashamed reading this!
7. She is a HERO
mea   (09.11.13)
She is brave, focused, determined and strong. I deeply admire her strength, as she represents the many other girls out there who could not face their tormentors. A society that protects rapists deserves nothing good.
8. These people are evil.
Runner1983 ,   USA   (09.11.13)
9. Blaming the victim
Richard Hode ,   Los Angeles, CA, Uni   (09.11.13)
What despicable people - blaming and shaming the victim and making excuses for the sexual predator. Clearly that congregation has a perverted sense of justice - no wonder a molester could grow among them like a poison plant in cow manure. These repulsive people are worth steering clear of, that's for sure.
10. Natural product of Dark Ages mentality
American-Israeli Jew ,   Israel   (09.11.13)
11. Evidence
Jake ,   Haifa   (09.11.13)
There was a great deal more circumstantial evidence presented in this case. Abuse cases rarely have direct witnesses. The Satmar community is a cult, and a dangerous one.
12. ooooh, they are sooo religious
larry ,   LA   (09.11.13)
I am red with envy that these people are soooooo frum (religious) that they prefer doing basically nothing and letting this girl suffer than put a sex criminal behind bars. OOOOOOH. they are sooo frum I could puke; they embarrass the girl in public (by me that's a sin, but if you are sooooo religious like them, it is not). I am soooo envious I could puke!! Religiousness like this I will do with out!
13. No justice in the Satmar Community
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (09.11.13)
They want the Rabbi to go free for raping a young girl. And these people call themselves Jews.
14. #7 is right- she is a hero! Shame on that shul of vermin.
David ,   Hartford USA   (09.11.13)
She and her family are welcome in every synagogue in America. I wonder how many women and children have been abused by the men of that shul? Maybe the disgusting behavior is rampant. All the men of that shul need to take lie-detector tests. Something stinks here....the police should investigate further.
15. The hardest thing about becoming
The Pentinent ,   NY US   (09.11.13)
a Baal Tshuvah is dealing with the bad apples among us.... How can these people ask for Selichot, when they blame an innocent girl for seeking justice?
16. That's NOT!! the Whole Story!!!!
Davd ,   USA   (09.11.13)
Before you start bashing (again) all Chareidim!, you should be aware to one very convenient part of the story, that is not included in this article! Why? Because this has been reported to the news outlets by the HUSBAND !! This women came to Shul on Rosh Hashuna dressed with almost something!! I promise you ! You would'nt allow your daughter dress up like that, even on the beach!!! Let alone a synagogue!! IT WAS NOT THE MEN WHO ASKED HER TO LEAVE!! And it had nothing to do with MOSER or NOT!! It was the WOMEN in the ladies section seeing the she was dressed, asked her politely, to please go home, get dressed properly, and please come back. Of course she refused!! That's when, again the women, YES the Women asked her to leave! Of course it turned into a commotion which spilled into the men's section, until the Rabbi decided, that it would be best for all to stop the services until she left!! NOBODY !! EVER!!! Yelled at her MOSER!!! IT IS AN ABSOLUTE LIE!!! HOW DO I KNOW ALL THIS?? !!! I WAS THERE !!!!
17. That's the way it is: when a child is sexually abused or
Rivkah   (09.12.13)
raped, it is the victim who is shunned as a general rule. When I was raped in the anus at the age of three, my mother hated me for having no value after that and also because to call the police would mean my brothers would go to jail. They had value to my parents; but since I was the victim, I did not have a value. When my brothers threatened to throw me into a quicksand pit in Massachusetts and raped me in the anus at the age of seven, the police were not called for that attack, either. I was beaten and hated for being "impure" for being raped. Then in high school, Tucson High School, I was attacked at the school and the policeman I ran to refused to take a police report! When I was attacked in the US Navy by an enlisted I was told to investigate to see if he was an alcoholic, I was told that I would be blamed if it was reported and to say nothing or I would be thrown out of the US Navy instead of the enlisted Chief. I know all about ostracism for being a victim. But let me tell the woman who was attacked that it is better to be approved by HaShem who hates sexual attacks on children and women as well as on boys and males than to have friends for saying nothing happened and pretending the evil attacker is okay. I asked HaShem to blot out from His Book of the Righteous all those who defiled the temple of the Holy Spirit which is my body without a legal right to do so (marriage). Psalms chapters 69, 73, and 109 show King David made the same request of his enemies and the Lord approved of that request and granted it.
18. To #16
Joshua ,   USA   (09.12.13)
Since you belong to this despicable cult of backward morons, how do we know that you are not lying, protecting a sex offender like the rest of the community?
19. Satmar supports perverts
Alan - Mérida ,   Mérida, México   (09.12.13)
What more needs to be said about Satmar? And Satmar is not all the charedim. As for no. 16's alleged first person account, sure, right, the woman appeared scantily clad. I find the Ynet story credible, and you, Davd, the one promulgating an "ABSOLUTE LIE!!"
20. commotion
zalman ,   williamsburg US   (09.12.13)
Services had to be stopped because of the commotion this yente caused...there's a little more to the situation than what is written here.
21. #16, so what happened, did she dress 21st century, not 12th
mea   (09.12.13)
22. "Witch hunt" or "Blood libel"
Aaron Kuperman ,   Baltimore, MD, USA   (09.12.13)
There was no medical evidence (not even her pediatrician's records) supporting the charge. No one saw them alone together. The jury pool was designed to maximize people who in general dislike hareidim. In general, the lack of evidence other than an unsupported allegation in a sex case, directed against an unpopular minority, is usually a sign of prosecutorial abuse (which bases its case on bigotry rather than evidence). In the USA, some cases were very common against Blacks (same pattern: no evidence, no witnesses, but everyone knows that sort of person is guilty) ---- Most of his community regards her as having lied in hopes of getting a big payout. They did have payback yesterday, when the District Attorney was defeated for reelection, and the Hareidi votes were the margin of victory (and a DA being defeated in New York City is something that hasn't happened for 100 years).
23. #16
Sane   (09.12.13)
Strange that you are so willing to believe everyone else. I tend to suspect he is right for two reasons 1. If a whole community shunned you, why would you go there? 2. They went to the papers. My own cynical view is that that was the whole aim in the first place. In order to make sure they got a story it would make sense to make 'sure'.
24. This horrible sect
Raphael ,   Netanya   (09.12.13)
Considers Zionism as a blasphemy.
25. In normal haredi environment...
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (09.12.13)
a girl of 12 and more, even any age below 12 is not allowed to be alone with a man, wether he is a Rabbi or not. The story "stinks".
26. American-Israeli Jew,
Walt K ,   Sherbrooke, Canada   (09.12.13)
It is human : When a crooked man has authority on individuals, he tend to use it at his advantage. At last, the parents have the crutial role to watch and protect their kids and teach them to speak freely, without any fears, in their houses.
27. #16 david
aaron ,   toronto,canada   (09.12.13)
You're full of cr*p, the women's section in an orthodox synagogue wouldn't make a sound while services are going on or they will be FLOGGED by the LUNATICS in the men's section. Keep your lying thoughts to yourself.
28. Shunning in Schul
Leon ,   Springfield, MA USA   (09.12.13)
These people mostly believe that most born into the Jewish people are not behaving like real Jews. Perhaps they might re-examine the concept of derech eretz.
29. #16, women have problem?
larry ,   LA   (09.12.13)
There is no problem of women praying in the nude if they are seated (see the shulchan aruch) and this lady was wearing some clothing as you state so what was the problem. Seems like the problem is that Satmar has judged the victim to be the criminal and refuses to even let her in to their shul. I am surprised that this woman who has endured such hatred by her own community still would go back there. Most people who have gone through a traumatic experience such as she has would leave religion altogether. I sincerely doubt that you were in the shul since that is Satmar shul. Satmar does not endorse people on the internet and certainly not on a zionist site!!
30. Numbers 23, 16. I agree
Akiva ,   NYC   (09.12.13)
After the terrible way she was treated by a large part of the Satmar Kehilloh, not least by the Satmar Rebbe himself, why would she want to go back to such a community?
