The issue is that they tie spiritual growth to financial expenditure--claiming that financial sacrifice (often in the form of outrageously priced pages of the Zohar and other KC products) brings the spender to a higher spiritual level. Most Kabbalah Center Critics have never even been to one! When I attended, for over 3 years, we were not asked for any yearly membership fee! Most shuls I have ever been to charge between 700 and 1500 DOLLARS per year to be a member!! but I don't hear them being called Cults!
