I dont think your correct I think it's commendable that a lawyer takes the case no matter who it is. The lawyer took an oath to defend his clients and he is doing exactly that. Dont agree with the stupid mother but the lawyer is doing his job as most lawyers do defending stupid people.

It depends on the situation. You and #1 both raise valid points but If I were a lawyer I would not choose to prostitute myself by representing child molesters or people like this family in France. I understand lawyers trying to get a reduced sentance for clients who are guilty but many lawyers try to get guilty people off scott free. There is nothing commendable about that. There are more than one way to prostitute oneself and some lawyers make that very clear.
