Beary White ,   Norway   (09.22.13)
A very pessimistic article. I almost guess he is going through a private divorce which breaks him down, mirrored in his writings.!!
5. We'll end up all alone here
Lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (09.22.13)
This article makes one presumption, and that is that Obama will remain President and that is very big "if". Of course the US is tired and fed up with getting the "brickbats" no matter how genuine its attempts to do the right thing by the world but unfortunately when you have a Pres. who does the talk but makes no attempt to do the walk, Then reality sets in; the reality that those who the US could rely upon in the past having seen the prevarication and total abrogation of responsibility and loyalty to its friends. The US can and will probably withdraw its influence for perceived short term gains but rest assured this will not be forgotten by its natural allies and certainly not by its enemies who will gain vastly from this retrenchment.
6. relax eitan
israeli paratrooper   (09.22.13)
relax eitan , america is not abandoning the middle east anyitme soon . your rationale that we cannot survive alone is not quite accurate . israel has developed well in the last 30 years . soon we will be energy independent , our ultimate power is self reliance .
7. First and foremost
Sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (09.22.13)
America will always support Israel. The problem is that America is tired of fighting wars and helping an ungrateful world. We have enormous internal problems and spending more money than the entire world combined on military hardware & wars will cause our economic demise. When ever there is a crisis in the world, the first thing the world says is what is the US doing about it. The Russians, Chinese, Indians and Eurowimps don't help and Israeli's. Egyptians, Turks, Jordanians only look after there own interest and ignore humanitarian crisis on there borders. So why should America do something, when these countries could. but won't. We have had enough.
8. As Usual, Mr. Haber
Larry ,   Margaliot   (09.22.13)
You depress the living daylights out of a soul. Everything Israel has is not owed to the US, and believing that it is is the surest path to doom. Enjoy.

11. Yes, Haber is "tired", he's been for a long time.USA is not!
tom ,   tel aviv   (09.22.13)
Americans have been duped (added by their own foolishness in voting Obama twice) into thinking that they can keep their cherished "way of life" after they renounce being World's policeman. If not for their exemplary behaviour during Europe's own messes, we would not have a free, blossoming Western World. We still may not have it tomorrow if fools like Haber continue to empower Obamas of this world to do their nasty work. What a truly depressing outlook this Rabin disciple has. What is worse: it can easily become a Prophecy, if good people of this world give up.
12. Not bad, Eithan, not bad at all...but
Sasha ,   Bilbao, basque   (09.22.13)
But, it really depends on as to how the things would develop. And who knows that? There always must be a plan B, C or even D.

The Saudis will never make Israel feel alone..and...NO worry Bandar will be there for Israel..OPENLY....
14. Oil
TOM ,   NEW YORK   (09.22.13)
America will still supply weapons to Israel , they won't walk away from all the Israeli & Arab oil . As insurance Israel should restart its aborted jet program .
15. Who needs America as world policeman?
LĂ©ontine   (09.22.13)
Those cowboys are not qualified, and annoyed most countries with their violence and bossiness.
16. the north american nightmare
daniel ,   u$a   (09.22.13)
what about the ugly truths of that country-racism,oppression,sexism,poverty and injustice- where the majority work sun up to sun down for someone else for the rest of their lives, finally realizing that the land is not as the dream they were sold, the american dream was in fact designed to make the rich richer while the poor remain poor, the middle class is depleting, many households living paycheck to paycheck,if you ask them ,though,of course it was all worth it,they have been conditioned, trained,to think it is the only way, just like the prison industrial complex, debt is a form of slavery, working hard for companies that do not value and then have nothing to leave,no land,no homes,no assets,no money,no businesses, but u.s army is sold as the best of the world, the flag flying everywhere, just the lies of the american dream
17. Never Alone
Christy ,   Boston, US   (09.22.13)
If I could read my Bible and see the promises to the US that are made to Israel - I'd never feel alone even with no allies at all. The US isn't abandoning Israel. There are too many people in the US who believe we should be allied with Israel to allow this to happen. The groundswell of support among believing US Christians - for Israel - is hard to ignore in the US Congress. I don't believe US Citizens have given up the idea of fighting terrorism. However, we've seen that it will take more than just the US and a few allies doing the work. More countries need to be involved. More countries have to recognize that the type of terrorism being fought in the Mideast - is a cancer spreading onto every continent. It's in the best interests of all countries who want peace to get together and figure out how to fight the terrorism that is spreading.
18. I highly doubt that this, or any of your articles makes it..
Ozraeli ,   Australia   (09.22.13)
...to the desk of the US Ambassador. Perhaps to the desk of the Personal Aide to the Deputy Assistant Associate for Recycling... Even relative to your usual fearful, submissive, delusional, hyperventilating, nostalgic, often factually incorrect writing, this is just unmitigated horse manure. I could refute every point individually, but it is not worth my time & energy (although I actually do think that a dollop of isolationism is in America's interests). Just remember: there will always be a "Biggest & most powerful". Who would you rather have it be? (And I know you are "observing", not "wishing") China? Russia? France? Argentina? Lichtenstein? "With great power comes great responsibility", & conversely, "Be careful what you wish for-you might get it" I am no fan of Obama or the Aging Hippie Baby Boomers who have floated or swum into the corridors of power, but I have great faith in the American people. The US will figure it out, regenerate itself, & do the right thing, even if (as Churchill said) "...it tries to make every mistake possible beforehand...". BTW, the Jews got along just fine for thousands of years, before the US existed; & Israel survived OK before the US became its largest patron. Perhaps not easily or always happily, but we did. So, Mr Chicken Little Haber - Please stop running around squawking about the sky falling-its not. Last, I bid you adieu with a translation of that wonderful Israeli saying: "Life is not a penis-it's hard all the time!"
19. Straight talk
Cameron ,   USA   (09.22.13)
"Our security at the moment depends entirely, or almost entirely, on the great America..." Aye. Top priority for Israelis to ensure they remain of value to the US, and reverse the trend of being a drag-down burden, otherwise, like a tiresome woman, they'll finally be dropped at the curb.
20. US has never fought on behalf of Israel. However,
leo ,   usa   (09.22.13)
leaving Arabs high and dry is not that much of a loss for Israel.

End of days AMERICA goes against ISRAEL.
23. Rise and Fall : America no Exception
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (09.22.13)
If America is tired of running the world we, too, are fed up with being under its greedy domination . It's the very sacred law of history : the Rise and Demise of adventurous empires . Remember Karl Marx : the seeds of its own destruction . Soviet system lasted for less than a century , and most probably America will have its own day of eclipse . Perhaps Americans will find it wise to adopt the Monroe Doctrine again , and for a very long time for that... And when America retracts Israel will belatedly find out its very survival depends solely on voluntary arab acceptance of its very existence here... And mind : nobody would bother to awaken that sleeping giant again...

25. Rise and Fall
Claude ,   London, UK   (09.23.13)
When the gods wish to punish us they answer our prayers. The slow demise of USA and possible rise of new powers, offers no certainty that its the dawn of a new era of hope for the Arab or Iranian ME. A far greater threat is the peril of Chinese economic/political turmoil, and Putins Russia simply unable to meet the aspirations of its impoverished youth. Sleep tight and stop praying
26. "We'll end up all alone here"... not really.
seadog1946 ,   NYC/NJ   (09.23.13)
American support for Israel is like a vast river... five miles wide and an inch deep.
27. The United States Government is run by Democrats who
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (09.23.13)
ran their campaigns on anti war hysteria. The news media helped them by running dead bodies of servicemen on their programs during the entire Iraq War. So now that they are in power....and they want to start another war in Syria....Iran??? Who is going to follow a bunch of whimps like them into battle? Obama and his groupies don't represent anyone but fringe groups in the United States anymore. Illegal Aliens...Gay rights...womens rights to kill their children...blacks who identify with Obama by his skin color...free medical coverage, which will be taken out of our paychecks for redistribution. Fringe policies and groups. We have no war time leader. We have no leader at all in a major sense. The people who you want to come save you...are not represented by this President. He doesn't even like the military. This so called Super Power ...has no rudder..and is circling around in little unknown directions... without any leadership. Being on the verge of energy independence... leaves us all with no reason to get involved with countries that want to destroy themselves... with religious theocracies and Hitler like governments... that repress their citizens rights. We are tired of dying for muslims....who go right back to their stupid ways of killing and running their governments... under a theocratic cult dictatorship. Israel and the world at large..have never stopped to ask when enough dead United States servicemen is enough. The answer is very close to right now. Don't get your hopes up for any imminent rescue operation.
28. Well duhhhh...
Mordo ,   PGH   (09.23.13)
Israel has always been alone. Their problem is one of denial. The sooner they realize their situation and deal with it the better. Israel gets stronger and stronger. Why should israel be h** n* for US anyhow?

and the rest of the world would be to get parasitic Israel off our backs. I think the Romans said it first, and maybe after the Egyptians and Persians. And God was the first to remind us that "life is not a bowl of cherries".
30. Good news for the rest of the world.
Chas. ,   HOLYWOOD!   (09.23.13)
It is long past time the parasitic Israel got off our backs. I think the Egyptians, Persians and Romans may have said it first. Israel is surely one of the curses God placed on the world for our sins. In fact it is recorded that he said "I never promised you that life would be a bowl of cherries". You may find the quote from Him at the Library of Congress.
