1. No risk for me.
michael Pielet ,   israel   (09.24.13)
The writer has interesting delusions. No the great powers will not save Israel. The great powers did not save the Jews during World War 2. In the ghettos of Europe many Jews suffering from tremendous stress and hardship believed that World War 2 would end in 1942.
2. You Err Terribly !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (09.24.13)
I Quote - Is a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear crisis ideal? I'm not at all certain, but it is also doubtful that another solution exists. As things stand, any military solution will ignite the region. Comment - Whom would you like to ignite the Region on its own terms and conditions ? Israel or Iran ? If Israel wount Iran Will !. Further - True, Iran is not hiding its desire to annihilate Israel, one way or another - Seeing that Israel is a military power that possesses unique means and can defend itself, I believe a diplomatic solution can be trusted - Under the protection of our spears, the international sanctions and the understandings with the international community, we can take a calculated risk and achieve a clod peace with our most bitter enemy. Comment - There is no Protection against Nuces, so no calculated risk can be taken. Deprive Iran of Her Nuclear program and offecive capability, then the risk regardinmg Iran alone is nil. Arn.Sweden.
3. The writer needs ti see a shrink urgently!
Jerusalem Jew ,   Jerusalem   (09.24.13)
The writer forgets that only one nuclear detonation means the end of Israel. It doesn't matter what Israel's retaliation will be the mother of retaliations.
4. What was that last line?
Cameron ,   USA   (09.24.13)
"achieve a clod peace" May you live under the curse of interesting times.
5. #2, #3 wrong
(09.24.13)
Israel holding Judea and Samaria can easily survive a nuclear attack with only something like 40000 dead Tel Avivians. Israel without Judea and Samaria cannot survive.
6. A policy of containment?
michael Pielet ,   israel   (09.24.13)
Economic sanctions are not working. The iran economy is still functioning.. Economic sanctions have not prevented iran from moving toward its goal of nuclear capability. Iran is developing missiles to deliver the nuclear payload. Past relations with the shah, irrelevant. Obama will not use military force to stop Iran. A policy of containment may work for the United States, similar to North Korea. For Israel? I believe the Iranians when they state over and over publicly that Israel has no right to exist. Sounds like the German dictator of the 1930's and 40's.
7. #3 one nuclear bomb would not destroy Israel!
Michael Redbourn ,   Lisbon Portugal   (09.24.13)
Israel is about 8,400 square miles large. The severe blast range ranges from 2.5 to 10 miles in diameter depending on the bomb. Nuclear fallout and hazardous materials would carry even further, maybe 60 to 100 miles from the last mile of the severe blast range. Let's take the worst case scenario: 110 miles of total destruction. So try maybe 30 nuclear bombs. Iran hasn't got one yet and what makes you think that Israel wouldn't shoot down missiles sent its way. Israel has around 80 nuclear bombs so after one attempt at nuking Israel; the lights would go out in Iran.
8. excellent article
(09.24.13)
Duek did an excellent analysis. Israel cannot destroy Iran's nukes, not militarily and not politically. Obama will not destroy Iranian nukes, and it does not matter why. But this is not a reason to panic. First Iran has bigger enemies: the Turks and the Arab Sunni. If Israel has a credible second-strike credibility, Iran will attack them and not Israel. More importantly, Israel has to make sure she can survive an attack. As everyone knows, the only way for Israel to survive an attack is complete control of Golan, Judea and Samaria. Now Duek has to convince Netanyahu and Livni: since Iran will get nukes, Israel has no choice but to annex Judea and Samaria.
9. Iran diplomacy
leib ,   Madison WI USA   (09.24.13)
the author cheers the submission of a list of Syrian WMD to the UN citing this as an example of the power of diplomacy but then says Hezbollah may get some Syrian WMD. A lot of wishful thinking here.
10. obama is not attacking iran
milson   (09.24.13)
bibi of ocurse is so scared that he pleaded and still pleads to america to take action. I woudl not trust internaitonal agreements on iran since it is the foremost sponsor of terror in the world and may beleive in the return of the 12th mehdi brought on by a nuclear holocaust. israel is still sick from the holocaust as it continues to produce a political core that is cowardly, insecure, weak and chamberlain like. Ohter than begin, shamir and sharon, most of the others made israel killing concessions and the latest bibi is led by his nose under american pressure and cannot take any pressure and doesn't know what to do. Its simple really: cut off talks with abbas until the sniper is delivered to israel, no prisoner release, increased settlement and soverignty you dumbbells over the jordan valleynot a long term presence. Who cares what abbas demands of livni, the moron that she is. As for kerry and his emissaries- the answer is no. Israel will ensure its own security and we have nothing to learn from you. Would bibi do this? Not on your life. He is so weak, he is pathetic whehterbowing down to erdogan or releasing prisoners, he makes me nauseus.

ition. Germans weren't yet at the peak of their power, they lacked tanks and as 1939 campaign proven even ammunition. 300 tanks they got from Skoda factories and ammo produced in advanced Chech industry came in handy during entire WW2. Chechs had no will to resist though, put to sleep by assurances "Munich dipllomatic solution would work"
12. I for once, am not concerned by the imaginary Iranian threat
BM ,   Israel   (09.24.13)
A nuclear bomb, even a hydrogen bomb is not enough to destroy Israel in the first strike and we do have a second strike capabillity, and the Iranians are practical players.

16. So much Iranian mullah hatred of
Facts speak louder ,   than words !   (09.24.13)
Israel and Jews is unacceptable by any human standards. How come a country like Iran which has never been wronged by Israel, let alone attacked, is so intent on destroying Israel, annihilating it, denying Holocaust and cursing anyone Jewish on this planet? Of course, there is no humane answer to this question, only that of cruel, primitive, blood thirsty Islamic Iranian mullahs. We have no quarrel with the Iranian people. On the contrary, we admire their resolve and versatility. But we will never permit a dangerous, lethal and immoral regime to threaten the existence of Israel. No matter what ! Therefore, I genuinely and sincerely believe that Rohani' s soft language is nothing more than buying more time and more stalling. Let him first come up with facts and then we will take things one notch further.
17. #5, 8 and 12
Ben ,   Chutzlaaretz   (09.24.13)
Any nuclear attack on Israel would be utterly devastating and NO, having Judea and Sumeria would not "save us". There are lots of good reasons to annex those and make them permanently Israel, Nuclear survival isn't among them. Writing that makes you look like someone desperate to gain legitimacy for his or her cause. The Author is deluded if he thinks we should drop the threat of attack from the current game, but not as deluded as 5 and 8 above who think we can do that if we annex our land.
18. naive and absurd article

and modern Islamic-fascist theocratic Iran. But before hazarding predictions regarding Israel, I'd be more concerned about the future of your entity in the continent you people grabbed from the natives. Your empire is not just in decline, it's in free-fall.
20. a century of u.$ military invasions
daniel ,   u$a   (09.24.13)
the following is a partial list of u.$ military interventions from 1890 to 2013:argentina,chile,haiti,nicaragua,china, korea, panama, philippines, cuba, puerto rico, nicaragua, honduras, dominican republic, mexico, haiti, russia, yugoslavia ,turkey,el salvador, iran, greece, germany, vietnam, egypt, lebanon, irak, mideast, cambodia, angola, libya, bolivia, virgin islands, saudi arabia, kuwait, somalia, bosnia, zaire, liberia, afghanistan, macedonia, yemen, philippines, colombia, pakistan, yemen. The u$a military has always killed massive civilian as part of their cost of war but the media has told repeatedly that some hate the u.$ only because of freedom and prosperity, missing from this explanation is the historical context of the u.$ role and for that matter in the world, this basic primer is an attempt to brief readers who have not closely followed the history of u.$ foreign and military affairs and unaware of the background of u.$ military interventions abroad but are concerned about the direction of the country toward a new war in the name of freedom and democracy. The united states military has been intervening in other countries for a long time and all these interventions directly served corporate interests and resulted in massive losses of civilians

24. #17We can live just fine with a nuclear Iran

If Netanyahu would finally start adressing the internal issues of Israel instead of provoking Iran and Assad.

26. Rohani and Shas Rabbis
Claude ,   London GB   (09.25.13)
Could someone explain why these two characters with such outdated religious ideas seem to share a similar taste in such camp head apparel. Pity, if their ideologies were not so repulsive one could almost imagine this headgear being all the rage with a Dior and Gucci range copied by Marks and Spencer's for the men's winter season. I would go for something with a touch more colour, rather than Rohani's plain fabric.
27. Talkbackers hate diplomacy
Shachar ,   Eilat   (09.25.13)
but fortunately statesmen and diplomats prefer diplomacy in almost every situation. It has spared a massive amount of senseless bloodshed. Unfortunately diplomacy has failed in the case of Iran. In fact it never had a chance. Iran is a theocracy with an agenda whose prime aim is hegemony over the entire middle east. They are patient and determined. This unique kind of threat can only be stopped by force and generally the longer you wait the higher the cost.
28. WRONG ! There is ONLY a military solution
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (09.25.13)
to eliminate Irans nuclear Holocaust project...EVEN the misguided author of that article should know that simple truth...!
29. " our most bitter enemy. "
A ,   Belgium   (09.25.13)
Iran, although dangerous and unreleting in its hatred for Israel, is NOT its most bitter enemy. The "palestinians" endanger Israel not only from outside its borders, but also from within, all the while under the guise of "peace talks". Annexation of Judea and Samaria and return of the "palestinian" (of which almost all are Jordanian citizens) arabs to their homeland in Jordan are much more pressing to Israel's security than the ravings of the mullahs in far off Iran.
