31. #3 his offense is against non-Jews
Moshe   (09.24.13)
Jewish law does not rise this kind of offense to the level of other crimes. He must be allowed his Right to Return. Those who are favoring the idea of a gentile nation prosecuting a Jew should be ashamed of themselves.
32. We should amend the Law of Return to rxclude Haredim.

Runner1983 ,   USA   (09.24.13)
Anecdotally, the incidence of child sexual abuse is higher in segments of the haredi community than in the non-haredi Jewish community. These haredi communities do nothing to stop the sexual abuse of their children. If fact, they feel it is more important to protect their cultural norms than protect their children. Shame on them! These people are aberrant. Until these children are no longer exposed to possible and actual abuse, it is everyone's obligation to speak out forcefully against the cultural norms of these haredi communities.
34. #10 - what right does he have to treat Jewish children
Debbie ,   Israel   (09.24.13)
If this man is a pedophilia - what right does he have to treat Jewish children that way. Or any child!! He belongs in the UK where he committed the crime. Why should our taxes pay to keep him in prison.
35. KEEP HIM OUT
(09.24.13)
this is no different than the French-Jewish murderers of Lee Zeitouni. There the French law of extradition keeps the murderers in France because the only exception is to extradite to European Union countries. This criminal murderer of child's innocence should be left to rot in a British jail. We don't want him here.

Do you actually believe that any Israeli court would decide a case based on some archaic religious law like the one you're referring to? Israel is not a theocracy and the courts don't have to answer to religious fanatics who might adhere to anything so offensive .
40. To all the haters..
Zusha ,   NYC   (09.24.13)
There is NO evidence anywhere that says pediophilia is more common among the religious than anyone else. All of you that are saying that are speaking out of hate, speaking out of ignorance, and speaking out of your ass!!! It is clear that this forum is more often a forum of hate than any discourse of intellectual value. But atleast try to maintain some integrity.
41. #37 Even if this was a plot against this particular person
BM ,   Israel   (09.24.13)
The behaviour that descrivbed in the article is so common amongst the Haredim as to warrant their exclusion from the Law of Return.

of child sexual abuse is higher in segments of the haredi community than in the non-haredi Jewish community." This is anecdotal. Most studies start with anecdotal data. There are just too many news and media reports of abuse within segments of the haredi community not to reach this point of view. BTW, the correct comparison group is the non-haredi Hewish community, not the population as a whole.
48. 47 , anecdotes are NOT exact numbers
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.24.13)
If it are only "anecdotes" , it's better not to mention them

50. Learn from Australia how to handle immigration.
Michael ,   California, USA   (09.24.13)
The Law of Return in Israel is a relic which hurts the country. Doesn't hurt too badly as long as there aren't many immigrants, but as this case demonstrates, the law can be and is abused. Check out the immigration laws of Australia. It is the best system I have seen so far. Time for Israel to defend its population through restricting undesirable immigrants to settle there..
51. #48: You state "If only anecdotes, it's

best not to mention them. You must be kidding. There is nothing more important than the safety of our children, nothing, no religion, no cultural norms, NOTHING! If these segments of the Haredi community were practicing real Judaism, they would determine which of their cultural norms cause the abuse, and then change these cultural norms.
52. #31 It is you who should be ashamed
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (09.25.13)
for implying that Jewish law allows Jewish men to sexually abuse non-Jews. This is a pathologically primitive understanding of halacha.
53. Runner , you don't understand
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.25.13)
You must not give anecdotes as "references" , nothing to do with not telling about the child abuse in charedi or other communities . I don't think that "their cultural norms" are "guilty" here . As any community they try not to reveal their bad guys . You have child abuse everywhere , but we can await a better behaviour from religious people .
54. #53, Charles: The incidence of child sexual

abuse within segments of the haredi community are not "anecdotes." These are documented cases where scores and scores of Haredim (many rabbis) have been tried and convicted of their horrendous crimes. My point is that there is much anecdotal data to indicate that the incidence of child sexual abuse within segments of the haredi community is much higher than the non-haredi Jewish community, and this is the right comparison group. When victims and their families want to report the crime to the police, they are told not to by their rabbi, and when they do, they are vilified, shunned, threatened and intimidated by their haredi community. In fact, the criminal is supported by the community, rather than supporting the victim! This has a chilling effect, such that these crimes are not reported by other victims, allowing the criminals to continue to abuse other children. The haredi community should be outraged by this, but they are not. Why? Shame on them.

" These are documented cases where scores and scores of Haredim (many rabbis) have been tried and convicted" . Give me the references of this . If , as you wrote ".....have been tried and convicted" , those cases must have been reported to the police . Charedi "leaders" don't say much about other wrongdoings either , they don't condemn other vil acts by their members [ not an excuse ! ] But i think that they are changing a little bit , they begin to see that vil acts by their members give a more and more bad image of the charedi "world" as people generalise .
56. #54 Charles: I guess you do not read the press
Runner1983 ,   USA   (09.25.13)
around the world. Please read the New York Times, the Jewish Daily Forward, etc, etc etc. Yes, these rabbis were charged and convicted because of courageous victims and their families who have paid a huge price in their communities in bringing these criminals to justice. These courageous victims and their families have used the common sense and good critical judgment they were born with, and disobeyed their rabbis. Thank G_d they did. They are practicing Jewish values by saving future victims from sexual abuse. Their haredi communities and the rabbis who made them pay a price are not.
57. runner , STATS !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.25.13)
that's what i want . "many" is not a number . No need to read the press for it , i want statisrtics , number of facts related to the different communities . If you can't give , no need to answer .
58. Charles, you absolutely have no
Runner1983 ,   USA   (09.25.13)
idea of what I am talking about. The anecdotal evidence is more than overwhelming that chid sexual abuse is a real problem within segments of the haredi community. If you want to be blind to that, you are free to do so. As you wait for statistics, more and more children will be abused. So as a good member of a haredi community, why don't you take a leadership position and get the statistics, and then lead the change in cultural norms within those communities to protect haredi children.
59. Runner , you don't understand English ?
