Saying that Hamas in power in Gaza is better than more radical groups replacing it is like saying Bashar Assad in power in Syria is better than a jihadist in power. But longer term, Assad has been the surrogate builder of an Iranian financed nuclear plant. And as to Hamas it will long term do its best to derail any attempt to achieve even a temporary peace agreement between Israel & the West Bank an already fleeting proposition to start with. So Hamas may be convenient now but it is not likely to remain so for ever.

makes Israel sound schizophrenic, and needlessly justifies other people in the region in regarding everything Israel does or doesn't with suspicion. To come out and say that at a time when we in Egypt are getting tough with Hamas is counterproductive to say the least, especially in the long run. Sure this might work in favor of the Egyptian government right now, but at the price of more anti Israel sentiment among Egyptians. Israel needs to start planning further into the future, and make serious efforts to integrate in the region and connect with the PEOPLE of neighboring countries. I think a decent Israeli government owes it to its people to build a better future on a solid foundation for generations to come. May peace and prosperity be with Egypt and Israel.
