1. Ms Ringel Hofman is wrong again
BM ,   Israel   (09.28.13)
The only thing that will determine our living quality in the coming decades would be how hard we are ready to fight our government for our freedoms and how extreme measures we are able to implement to curb Islamoharedi terrorism.
2. Talk is cheap Jewish lives are not
BUILD BABY BUILD !!! ,   United States   (09.28.13)
the purpose of the nation of Israel was to be "Israel The Homeland for The Jewish People." This was true when it was Promised and first established thousands of years ago and true now as then. Remember, there is just a remnant of left of Israel, every inch is vital to keep and protect not just for you but, your children and their children. How much land have you given away un exchange for terror? You get nothing for free nad less when you allow your enemy within your gate. That's why Israel originally had walls and gates again, the same now as then. Give away the Promised Land and you give away your security and your lives. Do you invite the robber into your home to spend the night? If so, you will wake up dead.
3. Agreements with PA or Hamas
Bear Klein ,   USA   (09.28.13)
Sorry if Israel caved to Abbas demands it could be the beginning of the end of Israel. Hamas and/or Abbas successors would just use the land conceded to fire rockets and make terrorists raids. The rockets from withdrawn areas could close Ben Gurion Airport. Israel can not make more territorial concessions. Weakness breeds more war not less.
4. There is nothing to talk about...
Jules   (09.28.13)
... simply because the PLO Charter denies Israel's right to exist. The PLO terrorists use those negotiations in order to be better prepared to deliver a blow, according to Arafat's plans.
5. "Talks" failure will lead to Obama UNSC '67 borders, ICC
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.28.13)
...2 States, 1 Country, Palestine Israel.
6. Good to Hope
Zechariah   (09.28.13)
It's good to hope especially for peace. But the Absolutioners on both side and genuinely Mistrutful makeithard. And it is hard.
7. The left never let the facts confuse them
Zev ,   Israel   (09.28.13)
8. A very good article.
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (09.28.13)
As a true friend of Israel, I congratulate Ariela Ringel-Hoffman. Although there are many difficulties, the dialogues with Arab Palestine's Authority have to remain open. Of course, the Jewish State must be firm, in order to reject proposals that endanger her basic security. But it differs from "annexing Judea and Samaria". Among that radicalism and the opposed; "back to before June 1967's frontiers"; a third and better way may be found.
9. #5, not mine.
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.28.13)
10. Terrorists in prison because they are murderers
Israel   (09.28.13)
Shouldn't be such a difficult concept to grasp
11. #9, Not mine, Coward "A, Belgium" losing debate, cheats.
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.28.13)
12. The author is right
Dani   (09.29.13)
The talks under fire will determine whether Israel gets Chamberlain's "peace of our time", or the peace of the red flag over the Reichstag. "Peace process" vs. peace. Hmmm... which one should Israel choose...
13. "We've got Israel's back" kind of talk is cheap
Steve Klein   (09.29.13)
Former candidate, George W. Bush said, "I want everybody to know, Israel's going to be our friend. I'm going to stand by Israel." Barack Obama says, "We've got Israel's back." Both administrations expended enormous political capital pressuring Israel to relinquish precious, strategic land to peoples dedicated to Israel's destruction. A Palestinian Muslim state in Judea, Samaria, Gaza, etc., will present a mortal threat to what remains of tiny Israel. The poster above is right, talk is cheap. Friends do not endanger friends.
14. This op-ed is nonsensical!
Reuven   (09.29.13)
15. wrong stupid thinking. will lead to war if followed.
ralph   (09.29.13)
16. Wrong Thinking
A Simple Jew ,   Beer Sheva   (09.29.13)
Israel has suffered an unbroken record of diplomatic failure ever since the 67 War, because of Leftist thinking like Ariella's. We should do it like everyone else. Negotiate from strength. Hold the prisoners. Let them walk. Blockcade their cities, and let them give us something for free passage. Freeze the talks until the EU cancels the Yesha boycott guidelines. Freeze the talks until Obama delivers Pollard to Tel Aviv. Get the idea?
17. If there were a viable alternative to
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (09.29.13)
Israel's recognition of the State of Palestine and the end of the settlement policy, you can be sure that Bibi would pursue it. There is no such alternative, hence, the on-going negotiations. It's that simple.
18. Sure there is an alternative
Mordechai   (09.29.13)
Before the peace talks terror was virtually over. The world had accepted there would never be a Palestinian state. The PLO was a joke that no one ever the third world took seriously. So end the peace talks, kill all the PLO leaders, destroy the PLO and Hamas armies and build thousands of settlements and we will have peace now
19. Selfdeceiver !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (09.29.13)
I quote - No alternative to peace talks Op-ed: Even if held under fire, negotiations will determine quality of our lives in coming decades Comment - those Peacetalks has already been going on for decades. Arn.Sweden.
20. # 18 Mordechai you win first prize
Stan ,   Israel   (09.29.13)
Of all the crazy talk backs opposing peace negotiations, yours is the most obsurd. (From 1 - 18) It's people like you and the extremists on the Arab side who endanger the ME. If our government does not make a serious effort to achieve a peace agreement with the Pals, and the occupation continues with all it's negative side effects. Then there will be an economic and cultural boycott of Israel. We are seeing today, the beginning of this boycott. The boycott against SA increased all the time, and after about 25 years brought an end to the White regime in that country. Here the continuation of the occupation will have the same result, and the Palestinians will gain control of Aretz Yisrael in its entirety. This could take 25 - 30 years. If Israel could and would do what you Mordechai propose, the boycott would destroy Israel in 5 years.
21. Mrs.Hoffman is a defeatist with no honor, no vision and no
tom ,   tel aviv   (09.29.13)
memory!
22. #20. Pathetic leftist fear mongering.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.29.13)
#20. Israel and former White South Africa have nothing in common. The likes of Stan have no logical argument to make in favor of phony "peace talks with Palestinians" intended to steal Judea and Samaria and turn Israel into a 9 mile wide concentration camp. So they resort to pathetic fear mongering. Just like mobsters trying to scare prospective victims into doing stupid, self destructive thing. You don't scare Israel, Stan. Give it up. Isolation is not a real threat to Israel. Not one Israeli has ever been maimed or murdered due to isolation. Untold thousands have been maimed and murdered as a result of lunatic leftist retreats and concessions. Besides, while Israel has plenty of enemies, Israel also has a great many friends.
23. Israel most glorious in "isolation".
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.29.13)
There were several nights, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, when people around the world wondered if the world, as they knew it, would exist in the morning. America was isolated. U.S. President John F. Kennedy did not seek consensus. He did what had to be done. The Soviets retreated and Kennedy will be revered forever for his courage in isolation. Israel is also most glorious in "isolation". Israel won all her wars in "isolation". Israel brilliantly carried out Entebbe and the destruction of Iraqi and Syrian nukes and countless other glorious deeds in "isolation". We all know that even if we let leftists do every single idiotic, self destructive thing they want to do, Israel will fight alone. Israel will win alone. "Isolation" is not to be feared.
24. #11, Not mine, Coward "Achmed, Mecca" losing debate, cheats.

25. Until and unless the Muslim-Arabs, local and regional, come
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (09.29.13)
to terms with Israel's RIGHT to be, to exist as the SOVEREIGN NATION-STATE OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE there can't be an accommodation of peaceful coexistence between the two. And, since, to date, the Muslim-Arabs have categorically objected to accept Israel's right as spelled out above on ANY parcel of land of the Jewish people's ancestral homeland, once can't see, realistically, the day this will change. Hence, the way out ought to be reliance on the FUNDAMENTAL elements of international law that have been acted to prevent a conflict, and then to resolve it, and the international community ought to "step up to the plate" and put its money where its mouth has been for all of these decades: 1) San Remo conference decisions, 1920 2) League of Nations decisions, 1922 3) UN Charter, article 80, 1945 And, the way to implement the above, the use of UN Security Council Resolution, 242, 1967, which was accepted unanimously at the security council, accepted by all the parties to the conflict, and used as the basis for all peace talks to date. And, in the absence of readiness on the part of the parties to achieve an accommodation of peaceful coexistence based on law, the alternative is the indefinite extension of the Sept. 1995 Interim Agreement between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) which has enabled the Arabs of Samaria, Judea and Gaza to govern themselves within the autonomous Arab region called the Palestinian Authority; an arrangement that can continue of course, with tinkering here and there to ensure smoother governance.
26. #22 you are right
(09.29.13)
#18 Mordechai stated simple historical facts and used logic to reach his conclusions. Instead of starting a real discussion by countering Mordechai's facts (because he can't) #20 launches a personal Alinsky-style attack on Mordechai, what the messianic Left always does. It is not for nothing that psychiatrists increasingly recognize Leftism as a severe mental illness.
27. #22,26 et al: I won't tell you "I told you so"
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (09.29.13)
before the ceremony in D.C. celebrating the successful conclusion of the current negotiations. And I won't write that "I told you so" afterwards either for the same reason that my comments here are now so few and far between --you no longer matter.
28. #27. Nobody will miss your posts.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.29.13)
#27. Jump Off The Balcony. If you make the quantity of your posts equal to their quality; you will never make another post.
