1. Knesset should not meet at Auschwitz
Eric R. ,   USA   (09.29.13)
until Poland lifts its obscene ban against Kosher meat. The country where 4 million Jews out of the six million were exterminated will now no longer allow the free practice of Judaism? No Jew - Knesset member or otherwise, should visit until the Poles reverse that Nazi-style legislation.
2. #1Of course it's a dumb ban, Eric...
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (09.29.13)
..but that doesn't mean we shouldn't move forward with this extremely strong statement given the opportunity to do so. Attendees can have their kosher meal on the plane for breakfast or dinner or bring a packed lunch.
3. This is a VERY dangerous idea!ALL KNESSET Members on ONE
Alan ,   SA   (09.29.13)
Aeroplane? Remember that Polish Plane with Polish Lawmakers...All killed in accident!
4. Tens of millions systematically murdered, not just Jews
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.29.13)
5. This smells of junket paid by our tax shekel!
(09.29.13)
shame on who ever came up with this idea!
6. its a disgusting decision
zionist forever   (09.29.13)
Mks should visit Aushwitz certainly but on memorial visits but this is nothing but a political stunt and disrespectful. They want to go on an official memorial event fine but leave the politics in Jerusalem. The decision to have Israeli fighter jets fly over Aushwitz bordered on media stunt and memorial event but holding a Knesset session there is a step to far and must be condemned.
7. This will be a secular gesture. The Knesset is secular.
Michael ,   California, USA   (09.29.13)
Israeli politics is secular in its democratic process. So, why will the IDF chief rabbi be included? I can understand his father will be included because he survived the camp, but IDF chief rabbi doesn't fit the scene. The Knesset should declare this event will be for memorial purposes and is fitting separation of state and religion.
8. budget cuts??????????????
sue ,   jerusalem   (09.29.13)
9. Inconsistency in Israel's position re. Holocaust
Tracy   (09.30.13)
It is easy to hold symbolic moments of remembrance for the six million Jews who were murdered by Nazis. However.... Israeli leaders remain silent about the historical and ideological connection between the PLO and the Holocaust. The Mufti of Jerusalem worked hand in hand with Hitler in the design of the program of extermination of Jews. Third Reich Nazis escaped to the Middle East where they proceeded to train nationalist militias. The Nazi hatred of Jews pervades today's nationalist ideologies in the Middle East, and particularly in Gaza and the PA. PA children programs, for example, are rife with anti-Semitic indoctrination. Gaza troops march in the Nazi style, goose steps and all, including the Nazi salute. The media too remains silent about this. I'm sure that this talkback will be censored, although it contains nothing but historical facts.
10. To #4
Avi ,   NYC, USA   (09.29.13)
Steve, there is no point of reminding us Jews that tens of millions of people of different nationalities were murdered in WW2. We are educated since a very young age that there is a Global Pageant of Genocides. And ours is the most unique, the saddest and the most photogenic. And as our genocide wins in all three categories, other people's genocides do not really matter. I am sure that you agree, don't you? As a generous step we might consider letting others win, but only in the Swimsuit category.
11. #10, Counting only Jews in Holocaust is distortion of truth
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.30.13)
...a lie.
12. #11 and what do you call celebrating
(09.30.13)
only your kids' birthdays, and not the neighbors' ? favoritism? You of ALL people should know about distortion of truth!
13. Shouldn't it be the Reichstag this "happening" is to be at?
tom ,   tel aviv   (09.30.13)
14. #12, Counting only Jews in Holocaust, Palestine, is racism.
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.30.13)
15. It is fitting. Deniers though will always exist.
bobk ,   orlando us   (10.01.13)
Yes it is fitting that the Knesset representatives of a free Jewish state which can defend itself should convene their. And the survivors are an essential part, for themselves and for others. As for bearing witness to the indescribable evil and horror of the holocaust yes but evil will always exist and holocaust deniers are part of that evil. As long as nations continue to tell of the Holocaust and teach their children then it will be remembered with some clarity and deep empathy. As others have said though, Knesset members and others should travel in several planes for safety's sake.
16. What's so special about 69 years?
Rafi ,   Merkaz, Israel   (10.01.13)
If this is what they do for the 69-year anniversary, what waste can they come up with for 70?
17. Knesset Flight
Rafi ,   Merkaz, Israel   (10.01.13)
Why is it that budget cuts and belt-tightening only applies to the Israeli taxpayer? Our politicos keep on spending money like everything is fine.
18. Ask Wiesel
Fred ,   Bcn -Sp   (10.06.13)
While there, they can ask the "Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel, a former Auschwitz prisoner" where were the pits with fiire he (and no one else) talks about. And why he does not mention gas chambers in his laureated book (apart from the german version).
19. Auschwitz visit
Johannes Pfaeffle ,   Ormond Beach FL usa   (10.06.13)
The Knesset should take their family and friends with them and stay in Poland. The holocaust story is just that, A STORY of Fiction.
20. PROTESTTRIP TO AUSCHWITZ
ROSENBERG ,   EDISON U.S.A   (01.27.14)
> I PROTEST THIS TRIP because a huge amount of money being spent. My father was in Auschwitz and my mother was in the work camp Skarzishko and Beuchenwald concentration camp during the Holocaust Skarzish and Beuchenwald. Even though my wife and I visited Auschwitz and the other camps to verify that they existed, the Polish government still has not returned the land and homes owned by all my grandparents and relatives who were murdered by the Nazis. All children of these Holocaust survivors should protest and demand compensation. Rabbi Dr. Bernhard Rosenberg
