I cant stand the things also to many times I have been out in the street and the toe piece came undone from the sole of the shoe so you cant actually wear the thing. Only time I will wear them is if I am going to the beach.

Any university, even in the US, is within its rights to stipulate a dress code. Enacting a dress code doesn't mean a return to the MB. --- The dress code described here doesn't seem extreme and there's no indication the 'modesty police' will be arresting/beating offenders. --- Some universities in the US, while not having a dress code do restrict what can be worn at school. In the workforce, at least in the US, there are various dress codes. Dress codes are a part of adult working life.
