33. John Lennon's "Imagine"
iselin ,   Oslo, Norway   (10.09.13)
He was a troubled soul, but he got it right with "Imagine". Read the lyrics. No religion. Nothing to kill or die for. All the people living life in peace. Truer words were never said.
34. Judaism in the US

There is an overlooked factor as to why there is less practice. The astronomical cost of sending children to a Jewish day school plays a role. This leaves many with little choice than to send the kids to public school. As for public schools, very few will be specific to the needs of exucating children as Jews. They may learn Hebrew and Israeli history, but note, only in a secular manner. Why? US public schools are barred from teaching religion. So, any education in Torah must then come from a synagogue or classses at a JCC. This means that the classes are held after school, or during the weekend. I do agree with the need to teach the language to all Jews, adults snd children alike. It is really key, and Hebrew belongs to all Jews.
35. Well written and insightful, but. . .
Akiva ,   NYC   (10.09.13)
I don't see American Conservative and Reform temples ever filling the needs of language, culture, history, religion and country. They support the ordination of gay and lesbian rabbis and the performance of same gender weddings in their temples. You cannot get much further away from Judaic civilization! We need to build programs taking Diaspora teens to Israel to see the full range of a traditional and modern Jewish country.
36. That is rediculous
Tuvia Schertzman,MD ,   Betar Ilit,Israel   (10.09.13)
I have been working as a religious doctor in Israel for over 20 years. What you are claiming is not true

Rabbi Nosan ,   Philadelphia   (10.09.13)
Israel Jews are also loosing their Jewishness. They are assimilating into Israeli not necessarily Jewish culture
38. Reply to number 3. 'Missionary Position'
Akiva ,   NYC   (10.10.13)
Until the rise of Christianity in the Roman Empire Jews did seek converts, but once Christianity became the official religion it was a capital offense to 'Judaise'. In Israel there are efforts to encourage about 300,000 former Soviet Union citizens to convert to Judaism, as they were without religion in the Soviet Union. We do encourage those about to marry a Jew to consider conversion.
39. #30 and 32, Very true, correct in every respect.
Michael ,   California, USA   (10.10.13)
Jewishness is thriving backed by tradition of living and of culture, based on intelligence and on Israeli secular movement. Jewish religion is dying, as it should, because religion is base on a premise we know is invented, is untrue. This premise is that g exists while it does not. The falsehood of that premise is overwhelming and therefore religion must die.
40. American Jews
Syd Chaden ,   Palermo Calif USA   (10.10.13)
Not to worry. No matter how hard American Jews try, Europeans, and the Muslim World, will never permit American Jews to forget that they are Jews.
41. JEWS SUPPORTING ISRAEL
PARTNER & pc ,   SOME WHERE OTR   (10.21.13)
I HAVE PLENTY OF JEWISH INFRATRUCTURE MY MOM MADE SURE OF THAT SOME JEWS HAVE TO LIVE OUTSIDE OF ISRAEL AND SUPPORT THE ISRAELIS IN EVERYTHING THEY DO
42. Wanting to be Jewish and wanting Israel
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.16.14)
All of the excuses in the world kept me from returning to Israel having grown up in America. In the end I wanted Israel more than America regardless of the excuses. Jews are being tested throughout the world. I believe Israel to be the safest and most comfortable place for a Jew to live. Here my Jewish stubbornness is just a part of the scenery, nothing special. Secular Israelis that are anti religious? who cares? I don't pay attention to them, I live my life the way I choose. Haredim that are anti modernity? who cares? I live my life the way I choose. I have my friends, my family, and my faith. I don't live my life according to other peoples standards. THIS IS MY COUNTRY. anyone that dares tell me different will take a flying leap off of a short pier.
