Forgetting Shas politics Rabbi Ovadia Yosef was learned and great rabbi who will be missed by thousands. Big question now is what will their next spiritual leader be like.

With the respect that is due to a dead men He was not exactly open and understanding leader He was an ultra orthodox men with no respect for seculars Jews For him the tora was the only way and the only true Unfortunately for him nature showed him that everybody goes tothe same place Jews,Muslims,Christians ,and atheist like me He will not be miss by everyone

Rabbi Ovadia was not a community Leader, but a highly learned and respected Rabbi. It is obviously natural for an orthodox Jewish man or women,(especially a Rabbi), to follow The Commandments... About respect to non Jewish people: you have no right to pass judgement, because you don't know...A man who follows G-d's commandments, he is righteous and good to all human kind ...And that is what Rabbi Ovadia always was and how Jews in General are, Eduardo....Just as any other good people... Rabbi Ovadia was more "open and understanding", then you could ever understand in your little shell....
6. 4: Tearing the clothes is an ancient tradition of expressing

extreme mourning. If you are not among the mourners, then of course, don't pretend you are by tearing your clothes.
7. 2 zionist forever: The next Shas spiritual leader was

already chosen: Itzack Yosef, Ovadia Yosef's son. Who else?
8. REST IN PEACE, RABBI!
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (10.07.13)
And #3 should learn to say things when matters and not at this sensitive time. It shows how full of hate and rage he is.
9. 500,000 not 10s of thousands.

half a million says it all. no parallel in the secular world. don't judge what you don't understand.
10. #2 #7 Yeah zionist forever
Miracle Dog ,   Israel   (10.07.13)
Isn't it obvious that the best choice of a person for lots of people to blindly look up to, is the son? I mean, why bother actually setting meaningful criteria? *sigh*
11. The Rav Ovadia did more to divide this country
Israeli ,   Israel   (10.07.13)
than anyone else. It seems that some here, who don't want to speak ill of the dead, seem to have forgotten the hatred he generated between the Sephardi and Ashkenazi people of Israel. You might look up what he said about the Ashkenazi "sinners" who deserved to die in the Holocaust! His political influence on this country was more divisive even than the Left Right Divide! His political agenda was to extort as much money for his Yeshiva Bochas that he could and the hell with anything else. No hypocritical tears from me!
12. ripping my clothes.
Da Dude ,   Eretz Israel   (10.07.13)
No thank you. They were expensive enough. Put him under, add some wails for show and let that be the end of it. All these empty courtesies.....If a Christian leader had said anything close to what he said about gentiles you'd all be gleefully uncorking your champagne bottles at the very moment of his demise and rightfully so. The same standards apply to him. And don't start with stuff like 'context' to smooth his filth over, either. Shalom, sleep well, and get to work safely tomorrow morning.

Suddenly, all the "worms" are crawlibng up... Again, you just made a fool of yourslelf, Jean-Pierre or whatever your name is...You and other's of your kind, fail to grasp, that Rabbi Ovadia Yoseff, was not a political leader..but an esteemed Spiritual Leader, who loved Israel and the Jewish People..And as any human, he may not have been perfect allways... What garden of Zion you "talking about" ? Give an example of Rabbi Ovadia's "religious" deceit.. What a pathetic post...
17. God save us from Spititual Leaders
Secular Israeli ,     (10.07.13)
why when I look on this procession I recall the funeral of Noth Korea leader? Never trusted Deri and Co including the leaders dressed as Pontificus. Cry babies hippocrates. SHAS has divided people of Israel as anybody else. The idea of religious political party is disguasting. Everybody who call this guy great Rabbi really deserve such clowns as spiritual leaders.

future, if we have any at all! Really: seculars are a dwindling mass it seems, while the dark forces of 'Spiritualism"(what an oxymoron!) swell up every day! If this is what awaits me in the next life: give me Hell!
20. To Jenny
Secular   (10.07.13)
I hear your preaching. The difference between SHAS rabbi and ayatollah is that the latter had more followers. The resut is known. You better think what to do with orphaned Deri now.
21. Will it be ok for women to rip their clothes off too???
(10.07.13)
No modesty is required!!!
22. #16
(10.07.13)
Like him or not, Yosef was a politician. It was his orders that propped up the Rabin, Barak, Sharon and Olmert governments.

J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (10.07.13)
of gur,and yitzhak shamir,in sabotaging an excellent deal agreed upon by Shimon Peres and King Husein of Jordan,to settle once and for all the Israeli palestinian conflict, the rebbe of gur and rabbi ovadia vent back on their promise to Peres, that they will leave the coalition of y shamir and join the government of Shimon peres,in order to bring peace to the Jews and the palestinians,so, rabbi ovadia and the other 2 men have a lot of blood on their hands, and even 500,000 of idol worshipers can't wash it away.

29. We are orphans? We are left without a father?
Rica ,   USA/ISRAEL   (10.08.13)
I understand if his immediate family will say these words. I can understand people looked up to him as a spiritual leader. I can understand, many looked up to him for his love to the Torah. But there is only one spiritual Father to all Human-being. Jews and Gentiles alike and that is GOD himself. He is our Abba and He is the one we the especially the Jews, the remnant of Israel, should look up to the Living GOD of Israel, for guiding, forgiving, salvation and restoration through His beloved son Yeshua the Messiah. Stop idle and warship another human. One should pray for the soul of someone, while they are alive , not when they are dead. May The Lord will use this sad time for His own Glory to bring a true revival to my people. Amen!
