1. Bah bah bah
Keren ,   Haifa   (10.08.13)
A lunatic cult leader dies hardly news worthy.
2. Good Riddance
Joshua ,   USA   (10.08.13)
I simply cannot understand all the Crocodile Tears and Belly Aching orgy surrounding the demise of this Arch-Delusional and Vile Cult Leader. The world is just a little better now with him gone. Maybe, there is a chance for a ray of hope and enlightenment!
3. 1,000,000 to end evil "peace talks".
Chaim ,   Israel   (10.08.13)
The welfare and survival of Israel is infinitely more important than even the most eminent person. If 850,000 Israelis gather to remember Rabbi Yosef, it should be no problem to get a million or more patriots to surround the Knesset to demand the immediate end to deadly "peace talks with Palestinians".
4. and...
Gady ,   Mexico City   (10.08.13)
who was this person in funny clothing?
5. HaShem took him on Rosh Chodesh
Ezra ,   San Diego   (10.08.13)
Rosh Chodesh symbolizes renewal, the ability of the Jewish People to rise up from oblivion and restore itself to its past greatness. Just as the moon disappears at the end of each month, but returns and grows to fullness, so Israel may suffer exile and decline, but it always renews itself - until the coming of the Messiah, when the promise of the Exodus and the Revelation at Sinai will be fulfilled, never to be dimmed again."
6. My father z"l also lived till 93, passed on in Israel.
Michael ,   California, USA   (10.08.13)
He went to a Heder till the age of 8 when his father died. Then, he had to hustle the streets for a living. He confided in me that he never said a single prayer after his Heder age. This proves, my father was a much greater genius than this "rav," but not very many people attended his funeral at Ha'Yarkon.
7. 'Unsurpassable genius' for nonsense

8. Amazing thing to see
Ephraim ,   Jerusalem   (10.08.13)
I hope today we can refrain from all the ignorant comments about Haredim and spend one day in unity mourning Rabbi Yosef.
9. Intellectual impact
Michael ,   Haifa   (10.08.13)
Personally, I think that Yeshayahu Leibowitz thoroughly outclassed Yosef in mental capacity
10. And yet, as the saying goes, cemeteries are filled with
tom ,   tel aviv   (10.08.13)
"irreplaceable" people. Hopefully adequate education will replace the voodoo of "Sages" like Ovadia. One can only hope so, if we are to have any future as a normative nation (and still keep our Hanukkah & Yom Kippur!)
11. Since my aliya I saw the first time the real Israel on the

streets. It is so fantastic to see the Jewish steamroller coming.
12. #5 Ezra, You make California blush with your nonsense.
Michael ,   California, USA   (10.08.13)
Why did you come here to put a stain on this beautiful and free state? "Renewal" of the kind you are talking about is not needed because nobody NORMAL is going to oblivion.
13. #3:Funny phenomenon with us Israelis: only cottage-cheese
tom ,   tel aviv   (10.08.13)
price hike can do the trick you're asking for. That or death of a Pied Piper.
14. 6 Michael
CJK   (10.08.13)
it is amazing that you do not recognize the tragedy of your father who was orphaned at age eight and who was thereby deprived of a jewish education. it is the orthodox who have kept judaism alive and without whom there would be no jews and not a jewish state.
15. Who's going to keep them all in tact?
Secular ,   Tel Aviv   (10.08.13)
I guess all his cult followers will have to make a decision on their own now- oh dear how distressing! Get real! He was 93 years old! hardly a young man.
16. SAD COMMENTS
Julian ,   Jerusalem   (10.08.13)
So sad to read these hateful comments from fellow Jews.
17. #16:Julian, I wouldn't call them "hateful" and I wouldn't
tom ,   tel aviv   (10.08.13)
call them "Fellow Jews" either. The sad truth is, that although belonging to the same ethnic group, they belong to a totally different species, as seen from my point of view. There are no common touching points between us, not in deeper sense. This never can be, due to the fact, that secular, open minded folks like me have no problems having dark masses like the haredim in our midst, while they (and EVERY religious cult) cannot tolerate others, that still haven't seen the light. Not for a long time anyway: it's just question of time&numbers for them, as can be witnessed by the scourge of Islam in Europe. So I'd call these comments "fearful, worried, frustrated, disrespectful (hard to "respect" Flat Earth Society!:-)..." not: hateful.
18. #15 Secular thats good but i have a question
Haim ,   TA   (10.08.13)
One of the many great accomplishments of Ayatollah Yusuf was his ruling on nose picking "Yosef banned nose-picking on the Jewish Sabbath. He delivered this ruling in a sermon beamed by satellite to his followers in Israel and abroad, and his reasoning was that Jewish law forbids shaving and hair cutting on the Sabbath . Yosef explained that when a Jew picks his nose he risks pulling out the tiny hairs inside the nostrils, which is equivalent to shaving and hair cutting" Well thats cleared that one up for me, but i was wondering are you allowed to blow your nose on Shabbat? Oh how will my life go on without the great leader now that he has gone? Who will i ask such important questions, oh how will i ever carry on ?

20. Void proves cult. Definition of cult: leader-controlled BITE
Sage of the Age ,   Israel   (10.08.13)
B: behavioral control by cult leader I: information control by cult leader T: thought control by cult leader E: emotional control by cult leader all channeled to consolidate the cult leader's control. Ultra-Orthodox fit the definition perfectly, and the cult leader displaces hashem -- that is the definition of avoda zara True Israel, and true Orthodox, follow Tora NOT a cult leader
21. Yosef's Funeral
Jack Levi ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (10.08.13)
Shas's purse strings just got a whole lot shorter.
22. Torah is our only protection and now
AB ,   TheRock   (10.08.13)
the most erudite and most studious of all has left us, something to worry about. Little by little all the great ones are leaving us and there truly is nobody who can match up to them. #16 anybody who does not appreciate the stature of Rav Yosef, what he did for us, how his learning of the torah protected us just shows how ignorant they are and how stupid they are because if 1 million ppl show up to somebody's funeral, they should conclude that there's something they just don't get.
23. AFTER RAV YOSEF !!!!
JACK ,   NETANYA   (10.08.13)
JUST WATCH THE FIGHT OF SUCCESSION ,THAT WILL BE THE SPECTACLE TO SEE AND TO HEAR ,DERI ,THE FORMER CRIMINAL WILL TRY FOR THE TOP JOB, WHAT A SCANDAL IT WILL BE....
24. #3 he was a man
(10.08.13)
I agree with you. He may have been a great rabbi (I am not one to judge), but Yosef was no more than a man.. Together with Peres and Beilin, Yosef was a main supporter of the Israeli surrender to the PLO. By supporting the Oslo accords, instead of going against like other rabbis, Yosef made a mistake that led to thousands of dead, destroyed synagogues, brought contempt for Torah and corrupted Israeli politics. Now, like everyone else, he will be judged. y.z.b.
25. 8. Get real!!!!
Talula ,   Israel   (10.08.13)
Most secular Jews are going about their business today as usual. Why on earth should we mourn this man, he was full of himself, thought he was God and, well, to be honest, I think he spouted out a load of nonsense, but whatever does it for you Mate.
26. #14 CJK, My father was self-educated in real subjects.
Michael ,   California, USA   (10.08.13)
"Jewish education" as you perceive it is filled with religious abstracts which are irrelevant to practical life. My father didn't need it and without it he went through the hell of wars only to survive where people educated like you are died like flies. And you dare to call it tragedy that he was freed from such worthless kind of education? You said your shtut, now go to the back of the bus.
27. LOST IN TRANSLATION
David ,   New York, NY   (10.08.13)
The head of a movement which (1) does not recognize the legitimacy of The State of Israel (2) does not contribute to its' defense or in any other way (3) lives off the labors of the nation's other citizens and (4)oppresses women has died...BUT 1 in 6 or 7 Jewish Israelis come out to mourn his passing, the same Jews who along with their descendents would be and will be in mortal peril if his policies gained widespread acceptance. Even taking into account that this involves "religion" where the usual logic of human behavior doesn't apply, this is truly one of the most BIZARRE spectacles in The Nation's history.
28. Shas founder
Secular ,   Tel Aviv   (10.08.13)
Did this 'pious' man ever stand up and condemn all those from Shas that were taking bribes, stealing money and making up false yeshivas to obtain money from the government, and who ultimately spend time in prison? He kept quiet. Makes him just as bad. He won't be missed by 90% of this country.
