hy   (10.13.13)
like haber, tzaban is wrong about oslo. Incitement of any kind is not permitted. On the other hand, rabin made a bad judgement in following peres's way, since anything peres touches is unreliablle and thousands of israelis are dead and maimed as a result so we have no lessons to learn from tzaban. as for understanding, so long as arabs pledge allegiance to israel and support the jewish state, they are welcome; otherwise they can live with their brethran where they can be killed like ants in a jar as is happening in syria. forget about understanding and all that bunk.
2. RABIN
GABE1 ,   TORONTO, CANADA   (10.13.13)
It is a tragedy that in a democracy a leader should be killed but that does not absolve that leader of his grave mistakes. As a result of Rabins Oslo Accords thousands of Jews were killed or maimed and neither he nor Peres or Beilin apologized or even took responsibility. Tzaban is talking out of the wrong oracle and should remember that Rabin needed the votes of Israeli Arabs (an avowed enemy from withing ) to secure Oslo. Murder is never right but it should be understood when a population feels betrayed to the point where it feels threatened. Arrests and executions and assassinations of world leaders by their own people is not that unusual, the USA not excluded.
3. Hate
Abraham Nachmias ,   Petach Tikva IL   (10.13.13)
Well, for somebody who talks against hate, specially political hate, he definitively hates a lot! What of course makes his arguments not valid as per his own principles!!!
4. This is to Yair Tzaban
i   (10.13.13)
I read you and understand you. I was in Israel when it all happened. Moreso, I was in Hebron. I too was shocked and saddened. No, not everyone celebrated his death. The sad truth is that all this hatred you speak of that comes from the anti-democratic fanatic camp actually comes from the side of those aspiring peace. I have always admired Rabin despite the stories I read about him. I chalk it off as 'nobody is perfect'. In all fairness, no-body is perfect. Israel will not be able to continue as is. The system must change. 1) No Democracy in Israel - opposite of what we all believe. 2) No religious control or coercion. 3) No relinguishing of any territory. 4)Get rid of the so called palestinian problem by transfering them - not by placating them. 5) Change the court system in Israel. 6) Make a peace agreement between the left and right camps so that there will be a clear understanding what Israel should be. 7) Do not emulate other countries - be unique. If in your view Israel is a great country today, it will be infinite times greater with the above plan. Change the mental disorder because currently Israel is Diplopic.
5. TO MR. TZABAN.
FO ,   Belgium   (10.13.13)
You wrote: "Rabin was murdered because inciting extremists said he was willing to sell the homeland to the Palestinians". The tragic truth is that Rabin wasn't ready to sell not even an inch to the Palestinians. He considered the Jordan River as THE Israeli border with Jordan. Just read the interview Rabin gave to the Belgian TV: "The so-called PLO will never be part for negotiations. It does not mean that Israel does not see that there is a Palestinian issue. We believe that the Palestinian issue can be solved in a context of peace that will be negotiated between Israel and Jordan. With Jordan we have got borders, south of the Dead Sea, till the Gulf of Aqaba, north of the West Bank, along the Beit Shean Valley and the Jordan Valley. Therefore, in a solution, a peace solution between Jordan and Israel, I believe that the Palestinian issue can be solved in a way that the Palestinians will find their right to express their special identity, but, it will never be trough the so-called PLO or through a third independent state. Because a third independent state between Jordan and Israel cannot solve the Palestinian issue, and will serve as a time bomb against Jordan as well as against Israel". So, who transformed Rabin into the Oslo symbol, and who pushed him in his back to sign what he absolutely didn't believe in?
6. Thats good that he is a former minister
David ,   On this planet   (10.13.13)
get over it you are not in Europe.Any one who gives away the land of the Jews should be very careful, it is not yours to give
7. Oslo Killed 1500 Jews
A Simple Jew ,   Beer Sheva   (10.13.13)
Oslo killed 1500 Jews and wounded and maimed thousands more. Rabin's Oslo Agreement was responsible for the untold suffering and grief to the Jewish people. His murder was regrettable, but it does not merit its own memorial day. Since the founding of Israel in 1948, the Arabs have slain 20,000+ Jews in their effort to extinguish us. If we must have another memorial day in Israel, then have a special one for the victims of Arab terror, like the victims of the Sbarro bombing or the children of Maalot. They are a more worthy object of our sympathy than Rabin. Rabin should remain be a footnote in the history of the Jewish people.
8. And his premise is wrong
dave ,   safet and phila   (10.13.13)
'cause Amir didn't do it.
9. Amir didn't do it
dave ,   safet israel   (10.13.13)
So this is all BS.
10. My eye
dave ,   safet and phila   (10.13.13)
Rabin's murder was political. YES Amir was the murderer. NO
11. Where is the protest?
dave ,   safet israel   (10.13.13)
that Amir didn't do it. In the state college students understood Oswald didn't do it. Israelis dumb, lazy or scarred?
12. Rabin was a miltary hero but a failed politician :-(
michael redbourn ,   Lisbon Portugal   (10.13.13)
In the military he doubtless saved thousands of lives, but as a politician, he cost them.

I read the first point of your plan and didn't need to go any further. If non-democracy is your goal then you should move to Zimbabwe, you'll love it there!
14. Tricky business, this "Violence &Politics"-cocktail: it has
tom ,   tel aviv   (10.14.13)
always gone hand in hand. It is unavoidable. On the other hand: try to imagine ONE man deciding to end Mr. Hitler's career in say 1938? We would've read about the "undemocratic assassination of a German leader by a fanatic" until this very day... This is by no means a comparison. If anything, it is gentlemen Shimon P./Yossi B. & Co that should be put on trial. Rabin was robbed of opportunity to correct his Oslo mistake! (this is the most positive assumption one can make in connection to this whole mess)
15. Israel needs a REAL investigation.
Chaim ,   Israel   (10.14.13)
Israel needs a REAL investigation into Rabin's murder. The "lone rightist" theory has literally hundreds of serious inconsistencies. We need to know the truth.
16. Yes to peace – no to violence.
avi ,   nyc   (10.14.13)
yes, murdering your political opponents in cold blood on the Tel Aviv beach is wrong
17. time to learn from our mistakes: all of them
Larry ,   LA   (10.14.13)
What we need to learn is to admit our mistakes and not consider them merits. Rabin made a big mistake with Oslo; let us finally admit it. But the fact that Rabin made a mistake does not justify Yigal Amir murdering him. Let us admit that too. Some of us seem to lack the ability to admit a mistake. Saying, yes, we made a mistake, allows us to grow from the mistake. Denying the mistake and even worse saying it was a merit-able thing only allows us to continue to screw up over and over again. Clearly Rabin's Oslo was a mistake; let us admit it and continue. But worse was Yigal Amir's mistake; let us admit that so that it never happens again.
18. Great pumpkin time again
Yair   (10.14.13)
Hasn't Israeli society matured beyond this sort of petty politicization? Seems not.
19. Tzaban is right: only democracy
(10.14.13)
Tzaban is right: Israel learned nothing from the Rabin murder. Israel's problem is that there is not enough democracy. We saw how Right wing governments represented only their voters (the famous "Left is only 2% speech"), even mocking the Left by calling them "Propellors". We saw how the Right wing corrupted the Knesset by giving bribes first to Shas, and then to Leftist MKs like Goldfarb to support the Right wing agenda. We remember how Leftist Attorney Generals sent police without name tags to beat Left wing protestors at Amona.
20. Rabin's last speech at the Knesset, 5 Oct. 1995:
Hermon Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (10.14.13)
1) Jerusalem will remain united under Israel's sovereignty and, indeed, will also include the suburbs of Giv'at Zeev and Ma'aleh Adumim and the areas between the city and the suburbs, including E1. 2) All major Jewish settlement blocs will be incorporated into the sovereign state of Israel, including Gush Qatif in Gaza. 3) The Jordan Valley ought to be viewed in the widest sense of the term and it too will continue to be ruled by Israel. 4) The future Palestinian Arab state will not be a regular state in that it will be totally demilitarized, its airspace will be controlled by Israel as will its boundaries and of of its border passes: land, sea and air. Indeed, let all of us remember Rabin's legacy, all of us!!
21. We did learn... the Left hates blindly
Phoney"Liberals" ,   Jerusalem Israel   (10.14.13)
22. To: # 13 & #19 who is the same Yair Tzaban
Israeli 2   (10.14.13)
Don't be ashame to print your name down there and print my response about democracy.
23. #17 agreed
(10.14.13)
Oslo was a disaster, and the murder was a worse disaster. We can't prevent our corrupt politicians from doing another Oslo, but we can prevent another murder. To prevent any more murders, the GSS commanders who sent Avish ai Rabib to incite the Amir as well as political leaders and justice ministry officers who approved this crazy act should be immediately stripped of their pensions, their property turned over to the Rabin family and they should be jailed for 15 years like Amir's brother.
24. guns to the terrorist plo and arafat
scott ,   philadelphia pa   (10.14.13)
Another thing Israel has learned from the Rabin days, and that is not to arm your enemies. They will turn their guns on YOU first, just like they did with Israel.
25. Except canton Appenzell in Switzerland
Raphael ,   Netanya   (10.14.13)
Israel is a unique example of direct democracy in the world: only 1 voting district in the country-which leads to an italian style partitocracy. Meanwhile, as leftist hatemongers could not find the way to power through the polls, they retain their nuisance power thanks to euro-arab fake NGO funding; and complain about lack of democracy!
26. You can't talk of democracy and deny right to Jewish nation
Miron ,   USA   (10.14.13)
to exist at the same time. You have got to pick your venom...
27. Rabin Murder
Moshe Pesach Geller ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.15.13)
Can't wait to see your face when you find out Amir didn't murder Rabin and who did. One day, it will be free and clear for all to see. It will just take some years more. And it's okay of you think I'm crazy.
28. Media ignores huge religious public
MediaLivesInDenial ,   Jerusalem Israel   (10.15.13)
The secular Israeli media is itself responsible for the sometimes violent reaction of the huge religious public witch easily represents 60-70% population Haredi National Religious and Traditional Israeli Jews , the media rarely covers this huge populations cultural or other activities while this sector only grows and grows demographically an example yesterday tens of thousands of religious Jews made a pilgrimage to the Tomb of Rachel on the traditional date of her passing YNET and other secular media made no mention of it at all, Secular media you ignore this huge demographic at your peril , the only time you mention them is to try to denigrate them and their communities and children and as you no doubt know humans have a long long memory and sometimes it is unforgiving.
29. The problem is that in US nobody believes that Amir killed R
(10.15.13)
30. Secular fantacism played a big part
HypocriticalLeft ,   Jerusalem Israel   (10.15.13)
For years and years the totally leftist dominated media literally spat on the right whether they were secular right or religious right and the Haredim and ther was never anyone in the media to defend them against the no stop 24/7 slurs in the media. It is only a miracle that worse has not happened as a result. You cannot deny a huge sector of society a voice without experiencing the consequences As someone who came from that so called "liberal" society I can personally attest to its being extremely racist and hateful behind closed doors. Does anyone remember Ron Cohen from Meretz saying one day he found himself "surrounded by hundreds of black insects" (Haredim ) Please Tzaban look in the mirror for the real racists .
