1. It's funny how only in Israel it's an issue
(10.14.13)
We live in an age where people move from place to place, from birth country to a country of adoption, for many reasons wether it's work, love or just to try another life. Religions and ideologies have less and less importance to people. Judaism and Zionism are shrinking. If Israel doesn't stop relying on these two ideologies it ain't gonna sustain long
2. There are two kinds of people: monetary + social
barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (10.14.13)
Those that find satisfaction in monetary value and the second, that find satisfaction in social value (family and friends). Each of us have different wants and dislikes - and that is what we, the individual, has to live with. You want monetary - leave Israel. You want social - stay.
3. Naive Yair!
Anshel ,   Canada   (10.14.13)
Sorry Yair Lapid, you don't give away the house without getting something substantial for it. Bibi is absolutely right, recognition of Israel by PA as a Jewish State is the bare minimum, before further negotiations and possible concessions. Just look what happened with Gaza and compare it with Egypt and Jordan. the difference is day and night, although not ideal. The word recognition has a very strong meaning in diplomatic language and in the international law. Or, you are very naive, most likely because you are secular. Peace works only if the other side gives you something valuable, otherwise the history taught us that you give something for nothing or very little, you are inviting a disaster...
4. Please can lapid stop BS-ing
Daniel ,   TA - IL   (10.14.13)
he does not know what the middle class is or what it is to struggle. he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and can do some good writing... however, that is it. heoveretsimates himself and insults the struggling middle classes of this cursed country. He has done nothing positive for the hardworking taxpayer and made some dirty deals with the histadrek fatcats and the haredim to get some more power! Every day I am more tempted to go back to where I came from since the only zionism left in me is cynisism!
5. #1 Unnamed prophet
MR   (10.14.13)
Does your theory apply also to the Muslim countries?
6. Hints on how to make it attractive for Israelis to stay home
Michael ,   California, USA   (10.14.13)
Naturally, Waze had to come to California for a GPS system which needed to rely on 50 million users. But why would those going back from California to Israel stop in Berlin and prefer to stay there permanently? The answer is ... well you figure it out (hints: cottage cheese and religion.) Lapid and other politicians in Israel need to figure out how stop their country from "leehol et yoshveya." (Hint: make laws apply equally to everybody.) Don't you wish they would want to read more hints?
7. 6000 nis
peter ,   jerusalem   (10.14.13)
Lapid should try to live 6 months on 6000 nis. Not as a single man but as a family head with two kids. Buying low quality clothes living in a tiny appartament, and find time for family life. He does not represent or is trying to help Israel's middle class.
8. #5 Unfortunately not...
(10.14.13)
9. Lapid= Train wreck in making...sit back and watch.
shadoil79 ,   Jerusalem   (10.14.13)
10. Journalist or Politician
Alberto ,   Italy   (10.14.13)
Mr. Lapid has to decide if to speak as a journalist and sell titels on newspapers, or act as a Politician (with a capital P) in order to make things happen. What did he actually for the middle class until now (even if in a coalition)?
11. Barbara - you want social in Israel?
(10.14.13)
That was the joke of the day!
12. this week i'll have a pottle of yogurt
Oleh X   (10.14.13)
and maybe next week a bit of fresh fruit? we'll see...
13. Where I live
Charles ,   unknown   (10.14.13)
I can't say where.. we renovated the Jewish community centre at a cost of $10Mil, but we failed to pay the bill for the Kosher meat, so we were left with no meat and we are being asked for more donations on a daily basis. This is Jewish and there is a special expression for it: Shnorer! Likewise Israel run by Jews, Shnorers. We have an excellent economy, great GDP by international standards, scientists & the lot going for it. Yet Israel charges a level of duty on cars and other luxury items as if we were in the bones of our @$$. Why a GOY can drive a Ferrari for under $100K or a Porsche under $38K? Why a GOY can buy a 5 bedroom house by the water, 2 livings, 4 bathrooms for less than 2 bedrooms in a shikun Olim in Petach Tikva? Why Lapid; tell me why?
14. How hard is this?
Vered. Israel   (10.14.13)
Break the import unions which make EVERY consumer good here too expensive, make a reasonable import fees for cars (not the stupendous 100% tax ?!) found more cities in the wide, unused swaths of land here, and tax us at a max of 30%. Easy. Fair.
15. #12
Adapt ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (10.14.13)
Well you really should look at making your own yogurt, its no big deal. In season fruits are reasonably priced in Israel.
16. #4 Daniel : I came across many like you
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (10.14.13)
Idealists, Zionists, highly qualified , formerly settled in the West , with Job security, substance, uprooted their families and came here Shockingly disappointed. Corruption and a third world mentality, apart from pockets of culture and manners here and there, made them cynics Money apart, the endemic corruption, protexia and having to accept low standards knaws into the wellbeing of society. Lapid won a desperation vote ; he is not the answer . He should heed the wise men and learn to keep it shut when to talk makes his ignorance obvious
17. People are greedy in nature
Scott ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (10.14.13)
This is what compels Israelis to move to the US - a promise of more money, bigger house, a bigger car. Life in Israel is tougher, but it doesn't matter how much easier it gets, there will always be people who value money more than ideals such as Zionism.
18. Reading what he wrote. I am totally confused. Father. Cont..
Adi ,   Zurich   (10.14.13)
Reading what he wrote. I am totally confused. Father. Murder budapest. Middle class. Life not easy. Left. Zionism. 2 states no area. Finance minister. Voted in to make change. No changes. Golden people leaving.
19. As far as needing recognition of the state as Jewish
Vered, Israel   (10.14.13)
it is not because we need someone else to determine who we are. It is to, once and for all, get the Pals to state openly that they know with whom they are making peace. If you ask Arabs, "Do you want peace?", they will say yes. But if you probe further about what that peace actually means, you'll discover that they don't mean peace with us. They mean they wish the war would stop, but they don't want it to stop if they have to give us anything. So, in order to have a lasting peace, and before we give up anything that will embolden them to keep trying to take all the land, they need to ADMIT that the peace treaty they are signing is with THE JEWS.
20. Peter, I wish I'd make 6000 ILS a month
(10.14.13)
I have to live on half
21. people who care more about being comfortable and having thin
naftules ,   jerusalem   (10.14.13)
these are people who care more about being comfortable and having things than they do about the land of israel and working hard to accomplish the greater joy that life can bring. In the western mind they think that the oposite of pain is pleasure ... but thats wrong, the oposite of pain is lack of pain/comfort. True pleasure / deep pleasure always come thru pain. no pain no gain. so in the western mind when they seek to avoid pain they mistakenly think it will bring them pleasure. Any pleasure they actually get will most likey be counterfiet and fleeting. Stay in Israel , work hard and reap the benefits of real pleasure. Its like climbing a mountain. Hard work but feels great when you get to the top !!!
22. Ostrich mentalities
Impoverished ,   tel aviv   (10.14.13)
I supported Lapid and I think he's doing some good things, but he has the mentality typical of holocaust survivors, which I'm not bashing - it's not abnormal under the circumstances. But hell, I don't support the disgusting habit of calling people who seek a better life elsewhere "yordim", of likening it to treason and worthy of contempt. Emigration/immigration has existed since time began; people move on to better pastures when theirs have dried up. I made a terrible mistake returning to Israel with only the most modest savings, which were soon squeezed out of me by unscrupulous landlords, retailers and even medical professional negligence, against which I was helpless because of the cost of "justice." I have been abominably treated in the workplace, am offered nothing but minimum wage (despite a strong skill base), no cost of living increases, and dismissed for whatever reason the employer feels like because the court system is so bad you'll never see justice there either (nor can you afford it). I have been squeezed dry by a cost of living that is just out of control. In reality, I can't afford to live. And yesterday a man died, alone and undiscovered for a week, because nobody cared about him either. If that's the society Lapid and similarly-minded folk with their heads buried in the sand as to what's really happening to ordinary people now think we should be grateful for and sacrifice our lives for, then frankly, he can have it. I can't leave now - I have nothing left to start again anywhere. But I'll say it to those leaving: do what you have to do because nationalism doesn't put food on the table. And to those contemplating coming here: if you have wealth a-plenty, good luck. If not, think again.
23. Societies are changed
Sagi   (10.14.13)
by individuals and not by unrest, discontent, street riots and protests. Robespierre, Lenin, Henry viii, Roosevelte, Lincoln are all examples of individuals who changed the way in which their societies thought, acted and operated, for good or for bad is irrelevant, what is important is that they caused a radical change. Israel as a society today is very sick. Oh yes, we have first class academics and scientists, but the grass roots, the so called middle class, struggle daily to keep their head above water, taxes are outrages, whether it is cars or coffee, it matters not, people will only pay reasonable taxes, they will not pay to what they perceive as "theft". Israel is not lacking when it comes to brilliant minds, that one person who will change things is out there somewhere, one day he or she will turn up and dig deep into the soil and cut the roots of corruption and a malfunctioning society. One thing is clear to me, it is not Bibi or Lapid or Yichimovitch or Herzog or any of the current wanabees, they simply are not made of the right material. Whether you are a scientist or a garbage collector you must be able to hold your head high in the eyes of your family by providing for them, this is an impossible achievement in Israel today, things must change, we wait for that one individual who will show no fear and spare no quarter.
24. Lapid's arrogance
Michael ,   Haifa   (10.14.13)
His arrogance provides him with protective armour against all negative talkbacks. He not only simply does not care, but also relates with utter contempt towards the fools who voted for him
25. He claimed to run for middle class
Ted   (10.14.13)
but he has done nothing much to help.
26. middle class
ADI ,   ISRAEL   (10.14.13)
lapid, pls come and replace middle class families for a month or two.. and feel how it is, when your kids what something and you cant buy, when u want to buy them food but your month budet is over ont he 10th of the month? stop talking and writing on FB rather do soemthing to ease common people problems if no keep quiet that would help too
27. Easy? No its unlivable
Mom ,   Israel   (10.14.13)
I am regretting allowing my husband to bring us here (Israel) and counting down the months until we return to US. I feel so fortunate to be a US citizen and feel for Israelis who don't have the option of living anywhere else. Saying Israel is 'not easy' is a complete understatement. It is simply unlivable. Aside from Tel Aviv beginning to resemble Africa, which personally for me is a huge problem as I do not want to live in Africa. The rent, the food, utilities- prices are outrageous. We paid $60 for a 2000 sq foot condo for electricity, here in a two bedroom its apartment 900 shekels. And there is still never enough hot water for a decent shower. Israel- overpriced dump. Being Jewish is not a good reason enough for me to live here and raise our family. Lapid, you're only one man and cannot solve this problem but stop with excuses. People should go where they can have a decent quality if life instead of living in depression.
28. like father, like son
marv   (10.14.13)
lapid is an arrogant dumbell whose mantra we have to do something which is what peres said before oslo, sharon said before unilateral withdrawal, which is wha tbarak said before camp david. Who is pressing israel is always the US. the status quo until something reliable happens is the best option to avoid many israeli casualties. So th is arrogant fool who understands little about security and did not even do combat like the other peaceniks, he goes on charlie rose and says we have to do something. Then he talks about withdrawing from some settlements when he has no idea of where he is headed. This is bloody fool and israelis stupid for electing him, you got what you deserved. His only virtue is pressing the haredi into idf service which is absolutely essential. For jews not to have martial skills is absurd after the holocaust and they have gone on long enough neglecting their martial skills. the father was an olmert enabler and a lousy mk and so the son followed suit. Israelis should throw out lapid, liv ni, yechaimovitz, deri and some others and elect some true israeli heros, not this collection of gas chamber jews.
29. Thought Lapid was smart.......
Shep ,   Memphis   (10.14.13)
Of course Israel doesn't NEED the Pals to recognize Israel as the Jewish home...BUT....reprosity demands that if the Pals want a Pal state, the Jwews demand a Jewish state - otherwise, you are allowing the Pals to define the narritive of the conflict much like Israel allowed the Pals to make a big deal about their so-called "refugees" while taking 50 years to accept that their were Jewish refugees from Arab countries that could be used to diplomatically counter the outrageous Pals demands in the public eye. This is about Israel finally taking control of the narritive - or at least playing the same game. Lapid, yoiu have potential, but sometimes your inexperience shows....sadly, just like Obama.
