Just when we think American idealism has been replaced with greedy materialism, we see a bright example of the idealism that brought Israel back to life from the valley of the dry bones.

Mazel Tov, Josh, may your future be bright! I wish I were 27 again: I'd be on a kibbutz in a heartbeat.
7. One of us must stay abroad
Jerome ,   AKL   (10.23.13)
How do you think my children managed to put down a deposit for an apartment? They cost as much as in NYC or London. So their father, me, must earn outside the country and send my after tax money to Israel, because the state is incapable of looking after my two sons who gave 3 and 5 years repectively to the army. I am talking in terms of housing affordability!

11. #7 please stop the whine...I have two sons in Israel
Al   (10.23.13)
they never ask for money. You know why because they know damn well, they are old enough to look after themselves. And yes they are serving in the IDF although my older one has done his service. Let your sons do what they have to do and stop whining about them. Be proud of them. If you do send them some money than do so without the poor me attitude.

WHY SHOULD HE????? is there any american law that states one can't choose to live in a different country and still retain dual citizenship????? i have three citizenships. iranian, american and canadian. there is no law prohibiting me from returning back to the usa as a FULL FLEDGED USA CITIZEN IF I CHOOSE TO LIVE IN CANADA FOR EXAMPLE. but then again, only usa jews, in your opinion, are not entitled to do the very same. ha? hameed aboughaze, iranian

by the way, if your two sons have chosen to live in n.y., YOU WOULD HAVE HAD TO FORK MONEY OUT TO PAY THEM AS WELL TO BE ABLE TO LIVE IN VERY EXPENSIVE N.Y.
14. " wanted to fulfill the dream and serve as a fighter"
Albrecht ,   EU   (10.23.13)
"As a fighter"? Against who? Against the people closed in Gaza or against women and children humilitated on the check points in WB?

i believe you should change your name from split to broken record. more apt and suitable to your inane constant and always similar opinions. one grows tired of them, by the way.
16. #15 - It's not split, pinhead ,...
split ,   US   (10.23.13)
No one hates me and I don't need an extra protection costing us Billions. I know you don't like to be exposed for whom you're but learn to live with it and stop whining or do some soul searching and change - A lack of loyalty is your trademark and that's your way of life everywhere you managed to settle down.
17. Peaceful Neighbourhood?
JR ,   Melbourne   (10.24.13)
Stop being silly. Whether you agree with the country's policies regarding the Territories, there is no denying Israel is surrounded by hostile states. It needs a powerful army today. It needed a powerful army before 1967 when Israel didn't occupy the West Bank or control the Gaza Strip.
18. Not Another Government Worker
Jake ,   Haifa Israel   (10.24.13)
Lets hope he does something more productive in Israel than work for the government.
19. Re:10 - A Very *American* Thing To Do
Christy ,   Boston, US   (10.24.13)
I think it's a very American thing to do the right thing - no matter where this takes a person. Supporting our allies has always been the right thing to do. --- Before the US entered WW2 we had men go to England and Canada to take part in the fight against Hitler - because it was the right thing to do. They were supporting our allies. --- This young man should be applauded - not degraded - for his actions. --- Israel and the US are allies. We fight the same enemies.
20. Split #10 Plenty of Jews have served in the US Marines
Mikey ,   SomeWhere OverHere   (11.01.13)
...as well as the other services, in wartime and peace, including in the Iraq/Afghanistan conflict--and scores of American Jews have given their lives in that arena as well. As a free American citizen, this young man has very right to move and live in the country of his choice, in this case Israel. The USA is not the former USSR which restricted its citizens'--right to leave. If he wants to live in Israel, his ancestral home, its his right as a Jew AND as an American citizen to leave the USA. If he lives in Israel and is of army-service age and physical fitness, he is obligated to serve. Obviously he wants to serve in the fullest capacity he can, and that is a laudable aim. Tough for you if you don't like it.
