This is an artificial situation. As soon as these folks' kids are 18 or so, if not before (I doubt that they checked the SAT scores for Alabama), they will leave Dothan for a "big smoke" and never return. I grew up in a tiny town in the deep South, so I know the all about this sort of thing. No rabbi after 1950. By 1970, fewer than 10 adult men, merged with synagogue in small city 15 miles away. By 1980, that synagogue merged with the other one in there. Pretty soon, it won't have enough members either and whoever is left will have to drive around 80 miles to a fairly big city with plural congregations. The seniors go to Florida and the young just get the hell out (as I did). This is happening all over the rural US. Look at the small towns of Minnesota and Iowa and you will see the same thing. The man who is sponsoring the moves to Dothan is just postponing the inevitable.

Why the hatred for a fellow jew? So they have a different understanding and worship in away that is menaingful to them. Why judge everyone based on your own beliefs? Not quite. In fact, judging fellow Jews is none of your business since it only divides the Jewish Nation. Your business is to support other Jews because YOU are NOT the center of the universe, HaShem is. My personal opinion of the situation is that it's transitory, and a good reason to relocate to Israel; there's a time for every purpose under heaven.

Israel needs more Jews and people should make aliyah, not move to some tiny community where their children will either totally assimilate or leave the place anyway.

You need to learn Torah instead of rabbinics

Not just Jews are leaving small towns in the US. "Everyone" is leaving. Once a mall comes, people no longer shop near home and the small local businesses go bust. When the factories shut down, there are no jobs left, so the working class people leave in the wake of those who could afford to leave earlier, when they went away to go to university. It's a pattern all over the US.
