1. You couldn't make it up!
Mark ,   London, UK   (10.18.13)
Fairly typical though....demand reforms without coming up with any suggestions.
2. Saudi Arabia
Toby   (10.18.13)
In general Saudi Arabia has nothing to be proud of and a fail in may respects, but I do have to give it to them for this (the UN has become one nonsensical and ineffective organization), and their stand against homosexuality is a healthy one.
3. The pot calling the kettle black!
David ,   Hartford USA   (10.18.13)
Amazing! The country that supports the teaching of hardline Islam worldwide, the country that produced almost all of the 9/11 terrorist mass-murderers, the country that still keeps women as second class citizens, has the chutzpah to tell the UN that it is a bunch of useless cowards! (Which we know is true!) The Saudis are probably the primary reason the UN is such a weak, useless organization. The Arab block takes its marching orders from the Saudis, lapping up their money (very much like the Clintons!) at every opportunity. And now Saudi money can't prevent the 'Arab Spring' from knocking on the King's palace door. Poor King, his days are numbered and he doesn't know what to do about it. Just imagine- those couple thousand 'royal' family members being kicked out of their palaces and palatial homes, forced to get real jobs- or go the way of Qadaffi. The King must be scared sh-tless! America no longer needs Saudi oil- so nobody will come to protect him when the Arab Spring shows up on his doorstep.
4. Financiers
mea   (10.18.13)
The Saudis have made an industry out of boiler room anti-semiticism via lots of media focused "content writers". They have spent 20-50 million a year financing stuffed shirts at American university political science departments and have even bought the department head chairs at major Ivy league schools in order to control the curriculum which is virulently anti-Israel. Daniel Pipes group Campus Watch works hard to bring to light this situation. Because of this situation it is positive news that the Saudis have declined the seat. Now, this said, it should be at least noted that a shift has occurred in the relationship between SA and Israel because of the Syrian situation which risks Jordan, Lebanon, SA to an extent and Israel. Israel has the Syrian war on one side and Egypt quaking along a precipice on the other and President Obama is lighting matches and flicking them on the ME tinderbox. For once SA, Turkey, Jordan and most importantly Israel have a serious issue they must solve together at this time. SA has declined the UNSC seat in order to not be put in a position to vote FOR Israel or perhaps against another Arab delivered phony baloney proclamation against Israel.I would take this situation as an indication of cooperation that is in spite of Obama's involvement and therefore indicates a strong lessening of the respect for the United States among the other players. Obama is dead wrong to initiate dialog with Iran, he is wrong to cut Egypt's aid and he is wrong to believe he is respected in the middle east. He is not.
5. Reforms are needed:
Prosecco   (10.18.13)
1. Dismantle UNESCO 2. Dismantle UNSC 3. Dismantle UNHRC 4. Dismantle UN 5. Send Saudis to Arabia and Europeans to EUrabia 6. Return land to Rotschild family 7. Have a coffee
6. KSA has done the right move. They shud work with Egypt,Jordan
Alan ,   SA   (10.18.13)
Gulf States AND ISRAEL (overtly or covertly) to ride out this Obama initiated Middle East and Iran Disaster! Excellent move by Saudi Arabi.
7. get more [restige saying to than you do saying yes
zionist forever   (10.18.13)
The Saudis know there is nothing to be gained by sitting on the Security Council but prestige because as long as the 5 permamment members have a veto then there is nothing to be gained from saying yes but saying no now your MORAL ARABIA. All your own failings as a country are ignored everybody respects you and actually gives you more influence in global politics because you can stand up and say I gave up a seat on the Security in the name to stand up for morality now you do the same.
8. Instead of having a bitch at Israel...
ex-frummie ,   Johannesburg S.A.   (10.18.13)
S.A. should form an alliance with Israel to tackle a common enemy - Iran, now that the U.S. has dropped her allies in the proverbial poo.

11. Double Standard, They're Right!
Marcohoe ,   San Francisco, USA   (10.18.13)
I fully agree with the Saudis that there is a double standard at the UN. Why always the ruckus about the Arab colonists in Israel, while there is nary a peep about what Indonesia is doing in Western New Guinea? The local population of Papuans were denied independence and are by now outnumbered by the very different Indonesian settlers, their land and natural resources stolen.
12. Double Standard, They're Right! #2
marcohoe ,   San Francisco, USA   (10.18.13)
I fully agree with the Saudis about the double standards at the UN. Representatives from Muslim countries would like to outlaw insults to their prophet, but Muslims never seem to have a problem with insulting the prophet of the Christians by denying His divinity, His death on the cross and His resurrection. So we can't say the littlest thing about their prophet, but they are free to say whatever they like about our prophet?
13. good decision
olavi ,   espoo,finland   (10.18.13)
Saudis financed a lot of Pakistan nuke program. They may even now posses some nukes which they target to Israel. Israel intelligence should be aware of this and eliminate the threath.
14. HOW COULD THEY BE A MEMBER NOW?
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (10.19.13)
They have started the civil war in Syria and they need to finish it on their own. They are financing everything as that is what the do best. Why the world does not confront them on this is beyond belief.
15. UNSC checked gay right to live in Saudi Arabia?
Miron ,   USA   (10.19.13)
Ahh... they are all dead...
16. How much has the Arab League done for Syria?

Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (10.19.13)
Saudi royals own so much prime property in London and Paris and have so many billions in British, French and Swiss banks that they could leave Saudi today and never have a worry!
18. DECLINING THE OFFER.....................
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (10.20.13)
Was the best decision Saudis took.As it is,their masters dictate terms to them and all they have to do is to say 'yes' or 'no' to what they are dictated to do.What was Saudi's need to join in the first place?
