1. Okay
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.20.13)
So withdraw the honor. If Egyptians do not know how to behave honorably, there should be no award.
2. At the very least, we are made aware of how Egyptians feel
miri ,   israel   (10.20.13)
towards Israel. We can only hope that the peace treaty with Mr. Anwar Sadat will continue to be honored as it was during Mr. Mubarak's presidency.
3. just present the award to the president
zionist forever   (10.20.13)
Relatives are informed of the award but the president has the job of collecting it in front of the press can give a speech about what the individual did and then everybody leaves. The family can be invited to a private ceremony away from the cameras which makes it a personal thing. They are invited and they say yes or no and if they don't want to come certificate goes into the post thats the end of it Basically cermony is as optional extra which will stop any politicization of the award because the media never know if relatives attended and if not why not. The relatives of this guy though sound more like people who would call the SS
4. At the very least, we are made aware of how Egyptians feel
miri ,   israel   (10.20.13)
towards Israel. We can only hope that the peace treaty with Mr. Anwar Sadat will continue to be honored as it was during Mr. Mubarak's presidency.
5. Pity that the current living members
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.20.13)
of the family will not accept an award for a late great uncle that held different beliefs than they do...
6. invite her and familly
Haim Bensoussan ,   Montreal Canada   (10.20.13)
the lady and her familly did not know that with the award comes an invitation to visit what the war allowed us to bring the miracle of Israel state!!! she should come out and come see the biutifull place where children grow, go to schools, play on the beach, ans sometimes even get some noble prices!!
7. 4
zionist forever   (10.20.13)
If we have another military dictatorship then we will because the military like American weapons so as long as the US government keeps subsidising their arms industry in the form of weapons for Egypt then an Egyptian military dictatorship would do as its told by the US. Civilian governments do what the masses want them to and the masses hate Israel.
8. Miri, you take one person's attitude
(10.20.13)
And make generality about a whole country. Is not what antisemitism all about?
9. Dont expect them to change.
Yanky Pipchick ,   Baltimore, MD   (10.20.13)
We can see their hatred toward Jews on a daily basis. -- Also here in the DC Metro area, Muslims from Egypt and also muslims from Africa will express their hatred toward Jews rather openly. I am speaking from experience. No hope for these characters.
10. To No. 1
Bertram ,   London, UK   (10.20.13)
Clearly you feel a need to match someone else's bigotry and idiocy with your own. No surprise there, then.
11. One doesn't have to read betwwen the lines
N ,   N   (10.20.13)
It is obvious, that the family worries that they would have to fear a backslash if they accepted the Israeli prize: " If any other country offered to honor Helmy, we would have been happy with it," They had to reject the prize or face the possibility to be labeled as supporters of "the enemy". The woman even said: "Islam recognizes Judaism as a heavenly religion." Isn't that a courageous person? Consider the hatred and lawlessness and fury in her country.
12. So give the award in non presence
Avi   (10.20.13)
It's obvious they could be killed or flagged as traitors for accepting an Israeli award. Regardless this isn't about them but the doctor.
13. It's very sad that
tiki ,   belgium   (10.20.13)
Goodness, brains & manners can't be inherited.
14. To #11
Ellen ,   Israel/NYC   (10.20.13)
Your thoughts are exactly what I was thinking. I DO find it sad that in 12 talkbacks you were the only one who realizes the truth of the situation. Personally, I am a very right wing individual and my talkbacks always reflect that. However, sometimes we have to acknowledge, as you did, that some Arabs want to do right and just can't!
15. What a disgraceful way for this Doctors family
Brett L ,   JHB South Africa   (10.20.13)
to honour his good name. They should be ashamed of themselves and hang their heads!!
16. Sure they were happy to accept his CASH$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Brett L ,   JHB South Africa   (10.20.13)
17. It does not matter
David ,   On this planet   (10.20.13)
i f the family accepts the honor. The doctor was honored because he was a good man.If the family is angry , it is their business,we can't change their feeling. We did what was right like he did what was right
18. Potenital is there for Muslims to respect religion, if well
hipocrates ,   earth   (10.20.13)
informed. However if not well informed , ignorance creates hate. However religion and informing others about it, in relation to the Jews and the loand of Israel has more chance for understanding in the context of religion than in mere secualr nationalism. That, arabs will not agree with or want to understand at all. So inofmr the world why we this is our home. It is not because Herzl said so it is because history, and most important to Muslims, the PROPHETS (whom they respect) and MOHAMED said so (he says so in parts of the Koran).
19. sad
Ilana   (10.20.13)
This relative, who isnt a blood relative does not reach Helmy's pinky toe in character height.
20. Give it to
Hertzel ,   Tveria   (10.20.13)
South Sudan, He really was Sudanese.
21. We did it for God sake
Arabic   (10.20.13)
Good decision family, don't take anything we in Islam help whoever for Godsake not for awards
22. Yad Vashem is built on a wiped out Palestinian village
Abdullah ,   Egypt   (10.20.13)
Oh the irony
23. Israel was making a gesture of peace
Riva ,   Israel   (10.20.13)
and appreciation towards her Arab neighbors through this award, and we can see the results..... this is why there is no peace.
24. #21: failed reading comprehension
shloime ,   toronto, canada   (10.20.13)
you are trying, unsuccessfully, to project some sort of noble intent onto plain, old-fashioned jew-hatred. she didn't say that no honours were necessary for doing what was only right and moral, but specifically said that the family would accept honours from any country except israel. whether those are her own views, or simply what is safe to say in egypt, there's absolutely nothing noble in that.
25. Cairo and Mecca are built on wiped out Christian villages
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (10.20.13)
26. #1, it's not the same person
Jacob E ,   Holon, Israel   (10.20.13)
If his family or this woman, who is the wife of his great nephew (not even related), does not want to accept the honor we are giving; not as Israel, but as the Jewish people to her great ungle, that is her personal choice and reflects only on her. Her reaction doesn't take anything away from this great deed that makes him Righteous Among Nations. It is nice to have a family member available receive the honor in his name, however, it is still his honor in his name. Not hers.
27. The family can't reject an honor that wasn't given to them
Yaniv ,   Israel   (10.20.13)
28. Oufffff, I am so tired with this sarah b. Why
Dave ,   Buffalo   (10.21.13)
don't you take a leave of absence for the next 20 years
29. The Egyptian family did the honourable...
Robert ,   Australia   (10.21.13)
....thing by not accepting.
