31. #20 - "A king like..."
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.22.13)
That is exactly the danger. When you have a king you don't know what he is going to be like! A king can be benevolent, or evil - never forget Herod - you have no choice. In a democracy there is a check on the power of the king (the knesset) so that another Herod cannot arise. A powerful supreme court is the only protection of Am Israel in the country as it exists today. Don't let it be compromised!
32. Khareidi king-makers run K'nesset, NOT representing people
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   www.netzarim.co.il   (10.22.13)
Eliminating the counter-balance of the Supreme Court is a naked attempt to lock down Khareidi rule over Israel. What I think is most urgently needed for democracy is a representative K'nesset. Today's Israeli government may well be the most unrepresentative of its citizenry of any democracy on earth. Mks should be elected by, and accountable to, their defined constituent districts (excluding autonomous and self-governing protectorates populated by Arabs).
33. Israel's Constitution
Danny ,   Chicago,IL   (10.22.13)
What I find amazing about Israel’s Supreme Court is they find a law “unconstitutional” yet Israel doesn’t have a constitution. How can something be “un” of a thing that doesn’t exist? For this reason alone there is a real problem that needs to be fixed with the Supreme Court.
34. Democracy= equal rights protected ...
Robert ,   Antwerp Belgium   (10.22.13)
by law. Funny is when I see the comments, both those from the left, the orthodox , the non religious and right, most think that because the state does not behave according to their agenda it's not democratic. I was at a conference by professor Halbertal on the subject and he says that a Jewish state can only be democratic if it protects minorities and gives equal rights to women. I agree with him. The constitutional court protects those rights
35. The Supreme Court destroyed democracy in Israel
michael redbourn ,   Lisbon Portugal   (10.23.13)
MKs who are elected vote and make decisions but the Supreme court rejects them if it doesn't agree. It's time for elected officials to make the decisions!
36. The government is not interested!
Riva ,   Gush Etzion   (10.23.13)
I attempted to complain that some people could not vote in the recent election like doctors on call, other workers who work a full day, patients in hospitals...and yet NOTHING IS DONE! The laws of the British mandate continue to harass people over the Green line! And, the other laws are not the same over the Green line for people living in Yishuvs who cannot go to a regular court to complain about problems!...the list goes on and on
37. Democracy during wartime
tom ,   new york   (10.23.13)
The courts seem to forget that Israel is in a war with it's neighbors . The illegal migrants come from Moslem countries that don't recognize Israel .
38. Quick notice: Save the independence and modernity
FreeIsrael   (10.24.13)
In the courts, in the society. Self liberation from violence and myths of every individuals is the best way to a peaceful civil democratic society.
