1. Quebec tribalism !!! tell me you're joking
(10.28.13)
what is more ''tribal'' than wearing turbans, skull-caps and so on!!! You want to fight tribalism? Then ban religious headgear and encourage intermarriage between these wretched ''communities''. Canada is not supposed to be a middle eastern country full of clans and tribes. Its part of the modern world.
2. To: No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.28.13)
You need to expand your horizon. Go out and meet some French Canadians. You will not find a more Jew-hating community anywhere in the West, and that's saying something.
3. @1 Tribalism? Ban ban ban
Raoul ,   Herzliya Israel   (10.28.13)
Believe it or not, many people, myself included, although I am secular, like to retain their identity. You (nameless) obviously don't.
4. More complicated than presented here
MoreDepthPlease ,   Jerusalem Israel   (10.28.13)
True Anti Semitism exists and has always in Quebec mostly do to the teaching of the Catholic church there but the church no longer holds power over the people there its gone but memories persist on the other hand the small French speaking "island" community of Canada & North America no more than 6 million feel very very threatened by the Oceans of English around them don't forget their history they were conquered and the British attempted to ban their language they feel threatened culturally and the Ashkenazi Jewish community identified with the English conquers the newly arrived Jews from France and Morocco identify with the French speaking majority in addition the French have shot themselves in the foot by inviting tens of thousands of French speakers from Arab and African countries while speaking French have little in common with Quebec history ,
5. #1. You're a bit ignorant: it's time to learn
Tom W ,   USA   (10.28.13)
This from the official Canadian gov.met website: "In 1971, Canada was the first country in the world to adopt multiculturalism as an official policy. By so doing, Canada affirmed the value and dignity of all Canadian citizens regardless of their racial or ethnic origins, their language, or their religious affiliation. The 1971 Multiculturalism Policy of Canada also confirmed the rights of Aboriginal peoples and the status of Canada’s two official languages.". Source: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/multiculturalism/citizenship.asp As you can read, Canada is not a "nation-state" but a conglomerate of various "tribes" ...if you want.
6. #4 Even more complicated than you present it
Dina S. ,   Montreal, Canada   (10.28.13)
When the majority of European Jews arrived in the province of Quebec - 1930s, 40s, & 50s - they found a public education system based on religion - Catholic & Protestant. Jews were not permitted to attend the predominantly French Catholic schools but they were integrated into the predominantly English Protestant schools. Even the secular portion of Jewish day school curriculum was based on the Protestant School Board one. As a consequence the European Jewish community integrated more easily into the Anglophone community. Much later on when Jews from French speaking countries began arriving it was easier for them to integrate into the Francophone community.
7. French Canadians
quebec zionist ,   USA/Montreal   (10.28.13)
The Quebecois want to preserve the French Canadian and democratic character of their province. This has similarities with Israelis wanting to preserve the Jewish and democratic character of their homeland.
8. #2 Sarah is correct!
Mark ,   Boston   (10.28.13)
Sad- but true!
9. By all means, #3, retain your identity
Cameron ,   USA   (10.28.13)
But leave the identity garb & regalia for home or religious meetings. Quebec has made it clear it wants no more daily 3rd-World advertising and tribalism on its streets.
10. 7
(10.28.13)
but israel doesn;t force, by law, any muslim to not wear the veil, any christian to not wear a cross, any priest to not wear his typical religious robe, etc... yes, israel is free. quebec, according to this law, is not.
11. #9. Read the Canadian "Multikulti" Laws 1971
Tom W ,   USA   (10.28.13)
In spite of De Gaulle famous speech, "Vive le Québec Libre" (1967) Québec still part of Canada. Therefore the "Multicultural Law of 1971" is applicable to the Québécois http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/multiculturalism/citizenship.asp The only religion and tribalism you adore is the Muslim Brotherhood that your "Dear Leader" belongs to. Jews piss you off in earnest.
12. kaybec is a sick province for years as it has tried to push
Moshe ,   Usa   (10.29.13)
english provinces around.
13. #12. The truth is the exact opposite, you ignorant
Tom W ,   USA   (10.29.13)
Have you heard of the So. Louisiana "Cajun" people? - those who still can speak some old French? Cajuns were originally French Canadians who were persecuted by the British and found refuge in the bayous in Louisiana. So just for the records: Anglos were the perpetrators and the Acadians (Cajuns) were their victims.
14. Next the govt will legislate on hair cuts like N. Korea
Yaniv ,   Israel   (10.30.13)
15. #1 Oh so modern to expand size of govt & repeat dark history
Yaniv ,   Israel   (10.30.13)
16. Sarah B, Coooooome on !
Walt K ,   Sherbrooke, Canada   (10.30.13)
Quebecers have nothing special against judaism, but they hate all the things who look like religious nekuda.
