1. But that's not what happened.
Jake   (10.31.13)
Edelstein ordered the cancelation of French president's visit to Knesset AFTER the latter decided to WITHDRAW his plan to address the plenum in favor of speaking to university students. That's called a snub. Dipomatic relations between nations are, above all, government-to-government. The French government, of all governments, ought to understand the importance of diplomatic protocols and niceties. We don't live in the age of Dreyfus anymore, Ms. Betito. Humiliation of the Jews will no longer go by unnoticed. If that makes you feel uncomfortable, then perhaps what you need is an airline ticket or a time machine.
2. What an incredible psychodrama
desi ,   mars   (10.31.13)
!!!! i'm speechless.
3. 1 Brilliant!
(10.31.13)
4. What is this petito babling about ???
Nachman   (10.31.13)
What is music to petito ears The french old anti Israel rehtoric of stoppping to build in out own country is destructive to the entire Israel and the majority of Israel understands this. Kudo's to Edelstein for showing geon Yaakov.
5. Edelstein hooligan rule
Al Sheeber ,   Tel Aviv   (10.31.13)
Edelstein could have keep his mouth shut and say nothing. Instead the Russian hooligan created a big frisson. Sometime, acting silently, not talking is better than getting huffy in public. Could Bibi send the Lieberman tool to several weeks of grooming, which he badly needs, not the kind of preparation one could obtain growing in the USSR or Israel.
6. The Israelis are smarter than that
he wastes his time   (10.31.13)
Every second Israeli is an expert in Middle East studies. Israelis talk about news and politics all the time, and they know the reality on the ground better then Hollande itself. He waste his time. No Israeli will change his mind because of a speech of a French president.
7. University students or more 'braver' (sic)? I think not
Jake ,   USA   (10.31.13)
Perhaps more naive and trusting of a vicious enemy, which is nothing to be proud of.
8. Gilad Shalit
George brown ,   New York   (10.31.13)
Better Gilad Shalit continued in prison in Gaza then letting free 1000 murderes
9. Just a lil French disrespect & 2-step
Cameron ,   USA   (10.31.13)
Miss Betito's pic merited the greater attention.
10. Obama started a fashion of ignoringKnesset in favour of Arab
Alan ,   SA   (10.31.13)
University "students"...This is completely un acceptable. The Knesset is Democratic Institution where every Israeli Citizen can vote.So why should it be "dissed" by Obama,Hollande or any one else in future. Let Hollande go somewhere else where he can diss somewhere else
11. insult to the nation
Ken ,   monsey, NY, USA   (10.31.13)
The French thought they could get away with insulting Israel, the same way Obama did when he refused to speak to the Knesset. Hollande lost that bet. And guess what? Not speaking to the Knesset is just another way of delegitimizing Israel. Should the Knesset tolerate that? I think not.
12. #11
(10.31.13)
It is politics, not an insult. Hollande is a failure in France with a 20% approval rating. He decided to recover some of the hardcore Left after deporting some refugees by going Jew-baiting. Betito is pathetic defending this guy.
13. Persona non grata?
Lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (10.31.13)
I would like to mention that at no point in Israel's recent history has its softly, softly, care where you tread approach benefited it. Just as with the Arab nations plus Iran, they still perceive the Jew as cowering in their guttkas waiting to be shipped off to a nice comfortable extermination camp. I for one applaud Mr Edelstein who, perhaps not being terribly diplomatic has said it as it is. To the writer of the article I suggest that you have spent too much time absorbing the fey mannerisms of the EU etc instead of extracting the truth of a snub and acting accordingly, perhaps you suggest that Israel should now behave as Obama and cow tow to your enemies and not so friendly friends.
14. Which country DO you like?
RJE ,   Adelaide, Australia   (10.31.13)
Almost every day some country is denounced by posters at this admirable site. Just wondering, is there any country in the world which Israelis actually like?
15. Almsot persona non grata in France
Raphael ,   Paris France   (10.31.13)
Hollande is almost persona non grata in his own country !!! He is the most unpopular president in the whole French history... So, Israeli shouldn't worry too much about this case.
16. This Edelstein is such a psycho drama queen
(10.31.13)
17. Hollande is already persona non grata in FRANCE Betito !
Fred ,   Dijon- France   (11.01.13)
Again a journalist who doesn't understand nothing...Hollande is considered as a coward in France !
18. Gilad was on hunger strike and French!
michael redbourn ,   Lisbon Portugal   (11.01.13)
and "with Gilad Shalit's release, for example". Gilad is a French citizen which is why France showed interest and it was 2 years ago. And he was released because he was on a hunger strike. And it's not clear what "much braver than their leaders" is supposed to mean. Merav Betito uses 'for example" and "etc' because he was either too lazy to research or he found nothing to back up his nonsense.
19. The previous experience
Raphael ,   Netanya   (11.01.13)
Of Chirac's hooligan style visit in Jerusalem, which gave him a status of islamic hero among the Paris suburb arab mob, seems to inspire Hollande's behaviour. He is the most unpopular french president of the 5th Republic. Any dialogue with him is futile and irrelevant, as he owes his election to the muslim vote.
20. Poor journalism pathetic opinion
Harel   (11.01.13)
Says a lot about what ynet thinks about its readers with the facts reassembled to support a biased opinion
21. He SHOULD be addressing the Knesset
Avi   (11.01.13)
not university students as this "writer" would prefer. Since when have heads of state visited foreign countries to speak at universities instead of parliaments? It should NOT have happened with Obama and should NOT happen again.
22. what garbage. stupid reasoning. leads to false ideas.
ralph   (11.01.13)
23. #14...an answer
Michael ,   Haifa   (11.01.13)
Micronesia, our staunchest supporter in the United Nations
24. Israel brave, smart enough to reject left.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.01.13)
The Israeli people are brave and smart enough to reject idiotic leftists like Betito. That is what a long series of polls and elections confirm. We are talking about the same leftist dolts who are wrong about every single major issue in Israel's history. The dolts who urged Israel to cede the Golan a mere 7 months ago! Memo to Ynet. You are really scraping the bottom of the barrel by running Betito's pathetic articles.
25.  talking directly to the Israelis ?
DianaK ,   Germany   (11.01.13)
" It's even harder to complain about Hollande, who is interested in talking directly to the Israelis, knowing that they are much braver than their leaders" Hollande will talk in front of a leftist audience in a leftist university. " these were likely the words echoing in Edelstein's head when he decided to destroy our relations with yet another European power." I was born in France to jewish patents and belive me , after Charles de Gaulle rise to power 1958 relations between israel and France had absolutely plummeted.
26. Hollande is a socialist/marxist
rosie   (11.01.13)
He wants to talk to the students because while they are in college they become more radicalized towrds to the left and he wants to address them because they think just like him..
27. Why does Edelstein have this power?
Dan   (11.01.13)
Someone tell me in which other state a jumped-up clerk runs national diplomatic relations. My country has become the most idiotic place on earth, and unless we change it, we will pay the price idiots pay.
28. so why did they not ban Obama
Larry ,   LA   (11.01.13)
with out a doubt, Obama is the worst. Yet the great ones of our Knesset did not see fit to ban him. If the French Pres had something in mind, it wasn't that the MK tremble (or do they at the mention of Obama) and so Hollande found necessary to speak else where?
29. #17 nothing new is not oberhucham in undeerhuham
Avram Goldsmith ,   Toronto, Canada   (11.01.13)
Mirav try modeling , the same IQ requirements
