1. less talk, more action!
JJ ,   Tel AViv, Israel   (11.07.13)
Lapid is talking and making lots of sense, but I know of several people moving back states-side because of the economic reality in Israel, and the will surely leave as this problem won't be fixed in the next few weeks. So less talk, more action!

There is Communism and Capitalism in same speech. I dont understand what he is going to do.
4. Fairer taxation will fix everything
Michael ,   Kokhav Yair, Israel   (11.07.13)
I agree with Mr. Lapid. Corporations shouldn't be taxed. Neither should people's incomes. The only tax that should be allowed is the sales tax. The rich spend more so they will be taxed more. No more government stipends except for the disabled and elderly. Then we can sit back and watch the economy explode with new, better paying jobs for the middle class.
5. As long as financial terrorists a la Yachimovich are removed
tom ,   tel aviv   (11.07.13)
from any policy-making I guess we should be all right. Even with a "visionary" like this guy, right?
6. Lapid wants to deal with the super-rich
Nora Tel Aviv   (11.07.13)
but....who says they will let him act. When the rich get richer and richer they becoe also stronger and stronger. Lapid should beware, they might neutralize him if he tries to do what has to be done. Reminder: People like him can be neutralized upwards too becoming b
7. neoliberal low-brow
DianaK ,   Germany   (11.07.13)
lapid is delusional , his neoliberal drivel is proven rubbish. In economics, the invisible hand of the market is a metaphor conceived by Adam Smith (1723-1790) to describe the self-regulating behavior of the marketplace, letting the rich getting richer by no taxes for the rich , only taxation for the poor. This people deliberately forget greed and avarice. there is no more earning or increase of living standard. any company try to reduce the labor costs. Lapid is telling a 200 years old LIE!!!
8. And what about the I Word?

Infrastructure ESPECIALLY for the South Trans North South Railway via Beersheba Hub Beersheba International Airport
9. Lapids political window dressing not solutions
zionist forever   (11.07.13)
There is no real way to solve the financial issues. Israelis have always worked longer hours hearted less money since day 1 what Lapid is proposing is window dressing to improve his image. The only reason we have a wide gap between rich & poor lis because its only in the last 10-15 years we have started to get rich people until then everybody was poor so there were no income gaps. First thing we need to do is for the government to start selling off the hundreds of companies the state still owns. The private sector should be running companies not government and through privatisation comes competition which brings down prices. Property prices will only come down when we start building out rather than up. We live a ghetto like culture with Jews in the centre & coast, arabs in the north and settlers. Unless we change land will go for a premium which will be passed onto developers who will pass it onto buyers who will pass it onto tenants. Cities like Tel Aviv will never be affordable so no point complaining about that its like London, New York & Tokyo only those with money can afford to buy. Lapid talks about tax breaks for middle classes rather than rich again pointless. The big companies are the ones who create jobs and tax breaks are an incentive. Tax breaks to the middle class sure its going to mean a little more spending money 1-2 years but then what back to the same
10. #3 - When THE STATE runs everything
Economist ,   Ashdod Israel   (11.07.13)
...it doesn't matter what ideological wrapping it uses. Fascism is a term that applies to both Communist and 'Corporate Capitalist' systems. A real Free Market (Austrian School) economy would help Israel more than giving tax breaks to the oligarchy and hoping this will stimulate growth and increase revenue that will 'trickle down' to the masses. Government should have a limited role, mainly ensuring that the law applies to everyone equally. Lapid should decrease taxes for everyone, and let the market determine price. Israelis flock to all types of black market venues, so why not apply the concept to the so-called legitimate market? The oligarchy must be abolished, and small businesses given a chance to compete. Individuals need more money in their pockets, not more taxes and government-regulated bureaucracies. But all this presumes an intelligence and social responsibility that doesn't exist here... at least not yet.

This has always been the economic reality of Israel where Israelis work longer hours and for less money than their western counterparts. Its more noticeable now because its only really last 15 years or so that Israel has developed a rich sector, before then everybody was poor so nobody noticed. Property prices have gone up largely because there is a higher demand because the population is growing and we continue to build up instead of out. In the last 2-3 years we have also had a growing number of western olin who have money to spend and so there is a demand for luxury buildings. As a result of limited space developers buy and pull down old buildings to make way for luxury new builds which ordinary people cannot afford to live in so there are fewer non luxury properties so it drives up the prices there as we'll. If property prices are higher for owners then they will also pass that onto tenants through higher rents. Lapid is making promises that neither he or anybody else can deliver on
12. Lapid's neoconservative vision

The state still owns lots of failing companies which need to be privatised. The left though they moan about prices but they are against privatisation but its only through a free market that prices can be forced down. There are only a handful of companies the state should carry on having any involvement with and even with most of them government interference should be kept to a minimum. I will bring money in for the government which can be used to pay debts, competition will bring down prices if done right and it will break the power of the Histadrut which is probably the most disruptive organisation in the country. Real obstruction to privatisation is the left who have become very anti big business since the social protests, the rich are evil tycoons and big business is oppressive so anything thats good for business and basically want economic revolution which will make us all equal end the idea of having evil tycoons.
