1. Why no knishes in Israel?
ej ,   Coney Island   (11.13.13)
More importantly- why are there no knishes in Israel, a Jewish country? I grew up in Coney Island and loves knishes, but since moving to Israel, I haven't had a knish in 10 years! Anyone know where i can get a knish in Tel Aviv??
2. This article sums up American Jewry

Overfed fressers with nay a concern for anything and anyone. Obama and Kerry are about to throttle Israel and the big kvetch is about a god damn knish.
3. Why don't these gvetchers make their own knishes fm scratch
barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (11.13.13)
Since arriving in Israel '68 from the great USA, I've been cooking from scratch. Israel didn't have all these conveniences, then. Now everything is available in Israel, but I don't go near them. Used to doing it my way. Healthier.
4. Redirect Israel's Philippines aid. SaveTheKnish!

5. Emptiness of US Jewry
Dov ,   Tel Aviv   (11.14.13)
Their whole identity is based on 'Jewish style' food it is artifical nonsense which isn't even kosher and in spite of the fact I grew up in a Yiddish speaking family in London and live in Israel now 20 years I must say i have never heard of a knish. I went to NYC and visited some of these 'Jewish style' places but I didn't eat anything since it isn't even kosher. You don't need 'Jewish style' when you are a real Jew! In any case this Ashkenazi food is fattening heart disease creating stodge, my wife's Libyan couc cous and Mafrouma beats all this crap hands down!
6. Let them eat Bourekas!
Mikey ,   SomeWhere OverHere   (11.15.13)
Better than knishes.
7. @Dov, # 5--Gabila's knishes are kosher, have a hekhsher
Mikey ,   SomeWhere Overhere   (11.15.13)
I'm not a big knish-eater, I prefer a boureka (see my other post) , but I occasionally indulge in a knish when in NYC. Gabila's, where the fire was, has a hekhsher, although maybe it's not universally accepted. It's actually quite popular with non-Jews, it's common street food, sold from vending carts in Manhattan (often by Muslim hot dog vendors, who make them treif by heating it up with treif meat and slicing the knishes with a non-kosher knife). Plenty of kosher takeout places (or "takeaway," as you Londoners say) that also sell knishes throughout frum areas of NYC--although they are usually round knishes, not square, like Gabila's. Again, I don't think a knish is always delish, but once in a blue it hits the spot. (And it's hardly as if most American Jews are knish-fressers, the article exaggerates.)
8. Re # 1 why no Knishes in Israel,
Mikey ,   SomeWhere Overhere   (11.15.13)
Coney island, Landsman, no knishes in Israel because as you know,, we're a majority Mizrahi-Sefaradi population and these tastes dominate--it's why bourekas are the dominant potatoey snack food--brought over by Bulgarian Sefaradim. Once upon a time in Israel it was almost impossible to get a decent bagel anywhere in Israel until some ex-NYer olim hadashim started Bonkers Bagels and made a fortune back in the mid-1990s. Instead of complaining about it, why don't you try and make a knish business in Israel? If they're any good, I'll be a customer!
