2. #1 He made a fool of himself and of his employer, the IDF.
(11.14.13)
3. Enough of compulsory army !
(11.14.13)
Israelis have enough to be enrolled while they want to pursue other dreams. Change the army into a professional army, with professional soldiers and let others pursue their dreams.
4. #3-we are sorrounded by savages
obligatory service   (11.14.13)
Israel is surrounded by primitive Arab terrorists. Look at Iraq, Syria, the Palestinian territories. There is no substitute to a large obligatory army service for now.

zionist forever   (11.14.13)
The problem with Israel is the population is to small to rely on a volunteer only army. There are around 10,000 full time soldiers and thats not going to change just because we got rid of reserves. The population is around 8 million that includes 1.5 million arabs, children, the elderly and sick. Whats the point in having 1000 tanks if you don't have enough soldiers? A country like the US has a population of hundreds of millions have no shortage of individuals choosing to sign up. Whilst there are plenty of people that hate serving in the IDF for the most part people don't mind. Notice people complain the haredi do not have to serve in the IDF whilst others do rather than haredi are exempt so let us be as well have an all volunteer army. Most also learn some skills they take away and use in civilian life when applying for jobs or starting up businesses. My best friend knows one of the 2 individuals who invented the Kinect for the X Box he used skills learned in the IDF, so he is a rich man because he was in the IDF as a reserve. The morons who shoot themselves in the foot to not represent the majority of reserves.
6. To No 4: You mean savages who don't know how to spell?
Baruch ,   Paris, France   (11.14.13)
7. IDF seems to have more soldiers than they need
someone ,   draftless world   (11.14.13)
In modern warfare the number of soldiers is vastly reduced. The military never argues that professional army would lack numbers; should not they be vocally opposed, if that were the case? The military should have the purpose of defending the country, not of acquiring skills; that's what schools are for. The IDF has a huge number of jobnicks compared to other modern armies. A professional army also cuts down on expenses i.e. training. Should a larger number of volunteers be desired, the solution is trivial and it always have been: raise the salary.
8. Just wrong
(11.14.13)
These are kids!!! They did not choose to be born in Israel and they did not create enemies with Arabs. Noone should ever be forced to carry a weapon and risk their lives for others, especially not kids who would rather go to college or travel for a bit.
9. missing the point
mark ,   israel   (11.14.13)
Is anyone wondering WHY the kid did that. He was obviously not a happy camper, behooves the idf to check if he was suitable for cvombat service, and whether there were factors that mnade husd service unbearable
10. Self mutilation a trend in Israel?
Gila ,   Israel   (11.14.13)
It's happening not only to soldiers. But common everyday folk. My friends ex-husband used to scratch himself until he had deep cuts and they bled. At first it was for people to notice then he would play it off but passively blame the wife. Eventually police got involved and they had to check her hands and fingernails and there was no DNA belonging to her husband. They got a divorce and he ended up paying much more than he would have because of the false accusations, totally lost his credibility in the court room. What is wrong with Israeli men that they find that this acceptable???
11. Is this an army that is supposed to win against Hezbollah?
(11.15.13)
12. How can this army protect us...
(11.15.13)
When this idiot could not protect his OWN foot?
