31. to #2 and you hope magic will fix your Israel
ghostq   (11.20.13)
in democracy if you won't do it nobody will, you want to earn more... but there is price, in UK you do not have the freedom Israel offers, how about free press, the last time I heard it is problamatic issue in the UK.
32. Everyone.....
David ,   Tel Aviv   (11.20.13)
...has choices. Living with them after is a little harder.
33. I actually agree with him.
Dima ,   Baltimore, Israel   (11.20.13)
Oleh Hadash of 3 years. Was a hayal boded in the army, combat unit. Now I'm a security guard and working on my masters.. life in Israel is simply too hard. The gap between the rich and the poor has grown too wide.. I think after I finish my masters I'll probably go back home.
34. The Real Problem
Rafi ,   Merkaz, Israel   (11.20.13)
The real problem in Israel is the politicians have no personal accountability. Until we can write a name on the ballot - not a party - the MKs will continue to worry about only themselves, their seats, and their pockets. I say to this young man - Kol Hakavod!
35. Israel is our home
Rach ,   Jerusalem   (11.20.13)
I was born and raised in Taiwan til 16 moved to America. Got my collegae degree and was making 6 figure income. Thank G-d I met my husband and found Judaism converted. And living an observant life. Gave up my high income job. Cuz Israel is the only home that we belongs to....we are not rich and nor do we have any connection. But got a lot lot if help and support from our Jewish brothers and sisters. Life has ups and down, at the end the most important is that "we are home".
36. Emigrating to UK
Beth ,   Israel   (11.20.13)
Me thinks thou doest protest too much. You know what you sacrifice -- stop trying to justify it simply because life for you has become easier. At some point, you may find yourself outside your adopted community and will look to return 'home.'
37. What do you want, a medal?
Miracle Dog ,   Israel   (11.20.13)
What a moaner, crass generalizations notwithstanding.
38. Lets be more honest shall we?
Gil ,   Tel Aviv   (11.20.13)
A simple check of your facebook account reveals another reason which you fail to mention here and which I suspected all along. You're also gay (member of queer couch surfers on facebook). Being gay in Tel Aviv is very simple but lets face it, London has a huge gay community. I'm wondering if that didn't have something to do also with your decision to move there.
39. London - Tel Aviv
Natasha ,   Tel Aviv   (11.20.13)
Yes, I lived in London and I was able to buy clothes and food cheaper. But I couldn't afford to live in Central London, and my personal opinion says that London is an extremely miserable and lonely place. I do agree that we need to decrease the prices in certain areas of our daily life here in Israel BUT don't forget that UK was a superpower once, the leader of the world as opposed to Israel which is only 70 years old. I am a new immigrant to Israel and I am fascinated how people compare their country with USA UK and Scandinavia. People in south Europe were i come from don't even think to compare their county with the top 20 rich states! Israel is a dynamic nation and things might change soon here.
40. Every place. . .
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (11.20.13)
Every place can have good and bad sides, and we have to choose where it's right for us. North London has about a quarter of a million Jews, so Israelis feel quite at home. About 80% of afilliated British Jews are nominally Orthodox, yet at the same time quite assimilated. The community is growing in numbers, and about 40% of Jewish children born here are Haredim. British Haredim, of course, tend to work and support their families, and when there used to be compulsory national service Haredim served in the forces.
41. 5 Ger from Raanana
Joseph ,   London England   (11.20.13)
The UK census of 2011 showed that the UK is less than 5% Muslim, in other words 95% NON-Muslim. Israel is about 20% Muslim. Muslims are not about to take over either the UK or Israel.
42. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness...
frauss ,   Jerusalem   (11.20.13)
If London does it for you, knock yourself out.
43. And the point of such "articles" is exactly WHAT?
tom ,   tel aviv   (11.20.13)
44. I love living in Israel
(11.20.13)
There are problems all over the world but this is my home and my people.
45. sums up todays generation
David ,   Ranana   (11.20.13)
Naor, i think your article sums up the youth of today. I don't think you understand : the state israel is not about YOU having a good life. Its about building a nation for the jewish people. the country is only 68 years old . Give it time...
46. personal opinions are just that
Ilana   (11.20.13)
granted everyone has the right to his own personal opinion and mine is very different to his. I think it is awful to live outside of Israel and I know from my personal experience that there is no place better than my home here in Israel.
47. living in london
stuart ,   Pardess Hagdud   (11.20.13)
Its true BUT life particularly for aJew is more than convenience- the possibility to contribute to something more important that oneself.-to build a country and raise a family in Israel is a privilege-yes I would like more politeness etc. but if I need a helping hand I know that here it is outstretched whereas in England it would probably albiet politely, ignored
48. Thank you for your kind comments
Mark ,   London   (11.20.13)
It's true! We all try and rub along quite nicely as everyone is a minority in London. Surprisingly, it's also very nice living outside of London but it requires a bit more "fitting in" and adjustment to the fact that life is not quite so exciting as in the capital. I am quite addicted to reading Ynet but so often I am shocked by the views expressed in articles and comments as they are so alien, and to be frank, rather unpleasant.
49. That's his opinion
Conroy ,   Toronto   (11.20.13)
About a year ago I saw a poll showing 90% of Israelis are happy and would not want to live anywhere else. Israel isn't this writer's cup of tea, and that's fine. Hope he finds his happiness in London.
50. 1...yeah, no drugs or premature sex in Israel....
Dan ,   Tel Aviv   (11.20.13)
Not even with singers....
51. Naor
Mendoza ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (11.20.13)
Glad to hear that you are managing and enjoying life in London. Obviously you are a man of spirit otherwise you would not have managed there. Hope that maybe some day you will return and that you will be able to enjoy life again.
52. Life in Israel is intolerable
roxy ,   Israel   (11.20.13)
It is very hard here don't kid yourself,we have been here over 20 years through thick and thin and are still struggling to make ends meet. I don't blame people for choosing to move abroad for a better way of life for themselves I would do it in a heart beat if I could . The educational system here is lousy, and the way the religious leaders here control the government isn't funny. Secular youngsters are expected to serve in the IDF and even lay down their lives for Israel, while the religious youth throw stones at them, and sit safely in their Yeshivas not even doing national service! Women are harassed on buses in Jerusalem for not sitting in the back of buses as well. Why should the religious minority dictate how the rest of us live? That is part of what makes life very hard here, and the way we are taxed to death here, paid low wages, suffering strikes from the Histrudrut while the politicians make so much money off the rest of us, and some of them are under criminal investigation or indictment! That is what makes life intolerable here the corruption, high taxes and constant threat of war ! Many more want to leave they are just stuck here because they can't afford to leave and can't afford to stay either!
53. Brits prefer to leave for Australia and Canada
Jake   (11.20.13)
What did Michael Caine say in "Educating Rita" when he left UK for Australia? "It's good to leave a country that's finishing for a country that's beginnning."
54. be a part of something great
mike ,   tel aviv   (11.20.13)
Life in Israel is hard, and sometimes can be a little bit wild-west. I was born in London, and moved to Israel when I was 31. But it's a new state. It's a place that has built itself from the dust of the earth, and the ashes of the Holocaust. Israel is fast paced and puts every thing in. George Washington's generation did not have it easy either.
55. IT oK millions of Englishmen left England too.
naro ,   nyc   (11.20.13)
There are losers and disgruntled citizens in every country. Millions of Englishmen left their country over the past few centuries, and are still leaving it. If it was so good there they would have stayed.
56. To 14 Norbus
Dov ,   London   (11.20.13)
The whole panic nonsense anbout children abroard is nonsense. My children speak read and wriste Hebrew as well as English (and Spanish and French). My wife was born in Israel. My children go to Jewish schools and have a rounded Jewish education. They spend 4 months a Year in Israel 2 months Summer, one month Winter holiday and 1 month Pesach and often other occasions also. You can be Jewish and Israeli outside of Israel we did it in the Galut for thousands of years. As for security there is anti-semitism in the UK but nothing like that in Israel where 25% of Israeli citizens (Muslims and Christians) are rabid anti-semites hell bent on the destruction of the Jewish state.
57. life in israel
shaya ,   usa   (11.20.13)
Naor should try to walk the streets or ride the metro with a Kipa on or a start of david chain, than tell me that its better in England.
58. There is that side of Israel . . .
nibor ,   israel   (11.20.13)
but no one talks about the other side enough . . . The one that is concerned with family. The one that is concerned with hard workers. It's true Israelis aren't always polite, but they are together a lot, and there are good days and bad days. I have lived in Israel for over 35 years, and I have taken many knocks. But it is home, and despite the fact we are surrounded by enemies, I feel safer here than anywhere else in the world.
59. Emigrating to another country
Nic ,   Toronto, Canada   (11.20.13)
Well, you know what they say, different strokes for different folks. I too loved London, and the U.K. when I last visited their in the 80's. At the time I was living in Vienna, Austria. At the time I was on a 30 day Inter-rail pass, so, we visited like 4 countries and just had a blast. But, I have to say that Canada, is better for me than the U.K., and I would say Europe in general. I would encourage you to come and check us out. Canada's major cities all have I would say sizable Israeli communities, and from every discussion that I have had with them it's like they wish they would have come sooner. So, I say enjoy the U.K. and then come check out Canada. You'll be glad you did. Otherwise, all the best in everything you do.
60. To Jules 23
Dov ,   London   (11.20.13)
Are you an Israeli? Have you ever lived in Israel? life in Israel is not living in a Hotel like the Dan Accadia. Your comments are nonsense. Why do you live in UK if it is so bad in London? it is easy to love Israel from afar it is harder to do so earning a pittance and strugling to feed your family in a country far more expensive than UK.
