1. Bike? sidewalk OK ! on roads; INSANE
moshe ,   Tivon, Israel   (11.24.13)
Israel has wonderful weather, scenery for bicycling. The DEADLY DANGER of the roads, the trucks, cars, and irresponsible drivers must (M U S T ) be removed ! a sane bicycler can't leave the safer sidewalk ! moshe
2. Tourism is more than Bikes
Maurice Solovitz ,   London, England   (11.24.13)
how about infrastructure and manners - two reasons to be nervous - Israeli hotels are horrendously over-expensive compared to Majorca or just about anywyhere else. Reduce the star ratings may begin to make for pressure to reduce prices but i doubt it - far easier to fleece the tourist. And did we mention the propensity for some groups to overcharge and show contempt for tourists (of any faith) - there are lots of reasons why Israel which should have more tourists than Britain has less an eight of the number. Start by addressing the problems that exist and maybe even the cyclists will come in their droves.
3. Marathon Races Cause $ loss for tourists
WarnTourists ,   Jerusalem Israel   (11.24.13)
The Ministry of Tourism should be up front with tourists coming here that when Israel has its many bike bicycle running races that demand the closing of major roads the tourists if in a group with a schedule will certainly miss some of the sites they have paid to see as programs are packed with sites and if missed the group cannot return to visit Too much closing of roads here for such events Tourists should be allowed to sue in such situations
4. Majorca V Israel
Jeffrey Marlowe ,   Leeds UK/Tel Aviv   (11.24.13)
I have cycled in Majorca and Israel Majorca has enjoyable roads and hills. The out of town traffic is minimal and the Island is cycle friendly . The only way to cycle in Israel is on the side walk or designated lane. Even here lunatics with electric bikes zoom along arrogantly . Going on the roads is life threatening and foolish.
5. If by "extreme" they mean off road, then maybe. If not, then
tom ,   tel aviv   (11.25.13)
clearly we're thinking of a novel way of committing suicide! Could work, who knows? "Kevorkian Excursions LTD."
6. Cycling in Israel
Spencer Erman, MD ,   Avon, CT, USA   (11.25.13)
Having completed 2 rides from Jerusalem to Eilat, I can rave about cycling in Israel. When I first did it in 2011, El Al allowed me to bring my bike as a second piece of luggage for FREE. When I did the ride in Oct/Nov 2013, El Al had increased tthe prioioce off bringing a bike to $210 US EACH WAY! Only through the negotiations of our organizers were they willing to cut the price in half. Still, paying $210 is a lot to add to the price of a plane ticket. If you want to encourage cycling tourism, maybe going back to a reasonable (or free) bike fare is in order.
