53 Talkbacks for this article
1. Welcome to reality Bibi
Andy Illich ,   Netanya, Israel   (11.26.13)
All your stalling tactics and blatant lies will now came back to sting you time and time again. Unfortunately we will also feel the sting. As everybody knows, you can fool all the people some of the time ,but not all the people all the time. Its payback time for you at last.
2. And this is just the beginning
Michael ,   Haifa   (11.26.13)
The continuation of our ongoing policies in the occupied territories are going to bring more and more sanctions against us. Maybe it would be a good idea if the silent majority of "indifferent" Israelis would start thinking about this.
3. EU is not the problem
On the Balcony   (11.26.13)
For over 40 years the international community has unanimously protested Israel's illegal civilian settlement of the occupied territories. Given the dramatic growth of the European Muslim population on one hand and th emergence of Islamic Jihad on the other, it is no surprise that the West has tired of barking and decided to bare its teeth. The limits on the Horizon program is but a nip. The bite,if and when it comes, will be much more serious. The problem is not the EU, it is the illegal civilian settlement of another peoples' land.
4. I do not see a problem for Israel here
Mark B. ,   Amsterdam / Holland   (11.26.13)
I so often read in comments here how superior Israel is in the scientific and technologicall field compared to others in the world. So not participating in this program will clearly only hurt the EU, not Israel. Those stupid and ungratefull Europeans...
5. Sure they can accept nuclear weapons
Mordechai   (11.26.13)
Sure Iranian nuclear weapons is something that Europe will seek an accord on and respect Iran's wishes, but Jews willing to live in peaceful coexistence in land Muslims demand be Jew free cannot be tolerated.
6. True but wrong conclusion
Sam ,   Ramat Gan   (11.26.13)
Israel does very well in scientific research but we need $$ (or euros) for it. Israel competes with other European countries to get funding from EU for academic and private research. Indeed, Israel does very well since it is #1 for the number grant / population. Not participating to Horizon 2020 will be a big loss of Israel research.
7. Never appease
keren ,   tzafon   (11.26.13)
There is nothing we want or need enough to collectively appease those who hate us. Let's take our ball and go home!
8. Misconceptions
Reuven ,   Netanya   (11.26.13)
-EU muslims population growth, irrelevant to this this issue and is completely false. The EU has about 6% of muslim popoluation, we have 20+%, so who has a problem ...?? - Israeli superiority in the technological/scientific area is a bubble and easily replaced if not taken care of. EU and US subsidies are the root of this superiority, so be careful what you wish for. - the political atmosphere in Israel is so out of touch with the reality that it is not beneficial for anyone in Israel, time to swing things around because the rightist movement has done more bad for the country that the most of us can imagine.
9. I can't trust PM over Iran if he wants
DT ,   TA Israel   (11.26.13)
to cow tow to the EU and Livni is involved
10. Time to tell the EU to go to hell!
Dee Bee ,   Israel   (11.26.13)
Ukraine did and now Israel should tell the Baroness Ashton of Antisemitism to do the same. Let them ask the Iranians to cure cancer and other terminal diseases and let the Palestinians show them how to protect cyber attacks on their security sites! Europe allowed Six Million Jews to be exterminated and they expect Jews to trust them? The flag of Jihad is already flying of the UK and Europe. Let the Europeans reap what they sow!
11. The silent majority
Andi ,   Israel   (11.26.13)
I am one of those Israelis, who I believe are the majority, that supports Israel's right to settle in Judea and Samaria, but for the sake of peace is willing to compromise and accept the presence of a viable Palestinian State next to Israel. The problem is Hamas will not let this happen and opposes the two state solution. This is what the Euro left just doesn't get. I agree the status quo whereby Israel controls millions of Palestinian lives, and is compelled to carry out terrible deeds like nightime raids on children,is totally unacceptable for a modern liberal democratic state, but what is the EuroLeft's solution?
12. No surrender to blackmail & leftist fear mongering.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.26.13)
Whenever Israel is pressured to do something, two things are obvious. 1. The thing Israel is pressured to do is VERY bad for Israel. If it was good, Israel would do it voluntarily. 2. Those applying the pressure know it is VERY bad for Israel. That is why they use mobster tactics. Israel was not reborn, after 2,000 years, to cede our rights to mobster tactics and vile leftist fear mongering. If Israel givse in to pressure now, Israel will next be pressured to allow "Palestinians" to flood our land. That is how mobsters operate. If you give in to them, they blackmail you for more and more... Depraved leftists prefer "isolation" over survival and dignity. The vast sane majority of us do not. Even if Israel did every idiotic lunatic act of suicidal surrender that leftists want Israel to do; we will still fight our wars alone. We must remember leftists are dead wrong about every single major issue since Israel was founded. Just 7 months ago, these dumb fools urged Israel to cede the Golan!!
13. Let's be good Jews and acquiesce
Robert Haymond ,   Teko'a, Israel   (11.26.13)
to the needs and desires of our Gentile neighbours. After all, wasn't that what Israel was built for? And should they require or request that we disappear, should we not undertake to assist in our own demise as well. Fighting for who we are is not really the question and is not worthwhile anyway. Pain and sacrifice, not on our agenda. So let's do what is expected of us, Folks and be "nice" Jews like in the old days.
14. to#11 Andi
Marcelo ,   Berlin / TLV   (11.26.13)
isnt it clear? the solution the Eurotrash pushes for is the final solution they could achieved 70 years ago. No one cares about the so-called-palestineans (now arabs, back in '47 also jews...). They only care about stopping Jews from living in their own state. Jews are for them the reflection of deep hate and murderous soul the EU has and they do not like it....
15. When you tell a thief,,,,,,,,,
Linda Newcomb ,   Ervine, U.S   (11.26.13)
When you tell a thief he is a thief, most times it doesn't sink in, sometimes jail and rehab don't work,,,,, all we have left are our prayers,,, let us all pray for Israel for Peace and a healing of this disease of greed and coveting.
16. 10.Connie Francis sang "Who's Sorry Now"
lydia ,   Brisbane   (11.26.13)
"Right to the end Just like a friend I tried to warn you somehow You had your way, Now you must pay I'm glad that you're sorry now" A horde of lawless est. Euro squatters foolish and reckless enough to set up camp slap dab in the cradle of civilization, amongst 300mil justifiable angry Muslims and for 60Y ignored the wishes of the Int.Community, was destined to come a cropper.
17. That's why Bibi went to Russia
AY ,   USA   (11.26.13)
In his interview last night on Russian TV he actually spoke about the potential cooperation with Russia in research. Israel has the brains and Russia - whenever they're not squandering their money - has the money. Surely, Russian money can be as good as EU's for Israeli research.
18. it' a loss for the EU, not Israel
nadav ,   tlv   (11.26.13)
the $600 million that Israel will spend helping jump start the EU's ailing hi-tech and bio-tech sectors would be better spent by: 1) lowering tuition for Israeli students 2) increase OUR R&D budget 3) invest in OUR school system 4) invest in OUR sovereign wealth fund (which is being built for the upcoming gas profits) to boost investments in telecoms infrastructure, and OUR start-ups. - IN short, the EU and their apartheid, anti-semitic policies can shove it!
19. Time to rethink our policies in the WB
Sarah B. ,   U.S.A./Israel   (11.26.13)
Better get out of the West Bank, be prosperous, brilliant and respected worldwide than all this shame and humilliation situation.
20. China, India, Canada, here we come
(11.26.13)
21. Brain drain
spyguy ,   seattle   (11.26.13)
Israelis should probably face some stark REALITY: (1) research takes wealth and if Israel ignores the desires of the rest of the world, it will not get the money for research. (2) good engineers and scientists are desired all over the world and can easily move and find research money. (3) If Israel does not provide a rich research environment, the "brains" will simply leave Israel. (4) China has more engineers and scientists than Israel has people in the total population and is graduating more every year. (5) Chinese engineering brains are just as good as Israeli brains. WHAT kind of future do you want? The time is approaching that Israelis are going to have to make some hard choices and watch some of their dreams die
22. Israel wasting its time. Euro will not stop its antisemitsm
Scott ,   Australia   (11.26.13)
This is such a joke...I mean these wankers have more issue with Israel than with Iran. Clearly, Israel will need to find another way of funding research. Everyone is a loser from this situation, but Israel must never give in to ridiculous, unfair demands made by bigots, who use any excuse they can to undermine Israel.
23. #16 lydia
solomon ,   bklyn   (11.26.13)
Still afraid to read history, the real stuff, aren’t you? Hint: your posts are fairy-tale mantras that you are too blind to see.
24. Who determined the borders? Why is Gibraltar occupation unpu
r ,   USA   (11.26.13)
Spain; no cojones?
25. Blood Money
Anshel ,   Canada   (11.26.13)
Israel should never accept "blood money" from the deranged leaders of EU. If Israel caves in for few shekels now, what will be coming later? More demands and de facto Israel will be giving up Jerusalem and the settlement. Israel survived before without EU and shall survive with EU. All we need is fate and not to cave into leftists "a la Ashton".
26. no 8
(11.26.13)
Reuven, the EU Governments are lying. At the present moment there are about 20% Islam/Muslims/Arabs. These people comes from all over Islam/Muslims/Arab countries. In Germany for example there are about 4% only Turkish 0rigin.In Uk there are about 6% to 8% Bengoli & Pakistani Origin. What about Islam/Muslims/Arabs from the rest. The EU Governments are lying, and they are scared to tell the truth.
27. So Netanyahu has gone from
Ivor EVenbiggergun   (11.26.13)
No negotiations To putting forward proposals To sending Tzipi to talk to Ashton He has no principals and no policies and no future
28. More bad advice from tea party
Daniel   (11.26.13)
As usual, the talkbacks are full of people telling Israel to ignore Europe. And as usual, almost nobody saying this actually lives in Israel. Most are probably neither Israeli nor Jews. So once again Christian right wingers in the US see it as their place to tell Israel what to do. As the article shows, the Israeli administration luckily knows better and understands the importance of keeping up ties with Europe and with international research.
29. compromise with the EU?
tiki ,   belgium   (11.26.13)
You must be dreaming! Ashton is feeling euphoric because of her devils's deal and in no mood to provide any compromise to Jews. It's about time that Israel understood that the world wants only ONE thing.... Israel of the map & Jews in the gas!
30. Netanyahu must say no to the EU
CJK   (11.26.13)
if netanyahu agrees to eu demand that they set the borders of israel, then Israel will stop being a sovereign state. netanyahu must understand that obama and his eu lackeys are bent on destroying the jewish state and he must fight back. netanyahu's vacillations on iran for the past four years have already caused huge problems for israel. he should put an end to foreign dictates in the affairs of the jewish state.
