17 Talkbacks for this article
1. Great news for Israel
Daniel   (11.26.13)
I'm thrilled to hear Israel will be a part of this research co-operation. I assume it will enfuriate the tea party talkbackers from the US who would prefer a poor, isolated Israel. I'm equally sure it will delight all true friends of Israel, no matter where they live.
2. Tzipi Livni saved your interests once again
Harri ,   EU   (11.26.13)
The more you smear Tzipi Livni, the more she fights for you and for Israel. Without Tzipi your government would be in deep trouble on the diplomatic front. True, she is not a boastful bomber and you need a boastful bomber to feel good hitting arabs, but you need her anyway to save your asses from your big mouth top ministers.
3. Good job Tzipi!
Hammer   (11.26.13)
It was not easy to repair the damage caused in recent years by super-diplomat Elkin, and persona-non-grata-in-chief Lieberman.
4. Coincidences?
Bill ,   New York, USA   (11.26.13)
This agreement and an Israel-Jordanian project were just concluded. And at the same time as the Geneva agreement. I would love to know if there was any connection between these developments. That would be an excellent question for those who cover foreign relations to pursue.
5. 2
jonathan ,   aboriginaland   (11.26.13)
Total rubbish-Livni fights only for Livni.
6. Well Spoken #2
World Citizen ,   the world   (11.27.13)
But think of it like this. The more whining and trouble the right wing government of Israel causes the sooner the UN will pass sweeping sanctions on all things Israeli. Only when the Israel people feel economic pain and isolation will things change. And when it does there will be justice for the Palestinian people.
7. #2 & #3, Tsipi is very good, she gave Israel Iranian deal.
leo ,   usa   (11.27.13)
8. The Deal
TR ,   USA   (11.26.13)
So, what are the terms of the deal? If Bennett is supportive, it probably protects Israel's interests. Livni finally did something useful!
9. "Horizon 2020"...??
Jennie ,   Israel/US   (11.27.13)
This project is nothing, but another provocative attempt to fool Israel for more land concessions in Yehuda and Shomron.. No proposal, nore compromise, coming from EU, could ever be beneficial to the Jewish State...
10. Rich or poor, this land is ours forever.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.27.13)
It is good to enjoy a good standard of living. However, that is not why Israel was founded. Israel was founded on land that rightfully belonged to Jews for more than 3,500 years. Rich or poor, this land is ours forever. Rich our poor, Judea and Samaria are ours forever. Nor was Israel founded to win popularity contests. However, it is human nature to revere the strong and despise the weak. The stronger and more self respecting Israel becomes, the more others will also respect her.
11. Bravo Bennnett
lucifer69   (11.27.13)
Thanks for helping thenEU to see the light. What would Horizon 2020 research program look like without Israel participation?
12. #2 & #3, Read the fine print. BENNETT was there
Jake   (11.27.13)
with Livni, participating in the telecon, keeping an eye on her, making sure that Israel's red lines were adhered to and duly incorporated into the agreement guidelines. Had Livni been there alone, she would would have signed any old document the EU put in front of her, without including Israel's fundamental legal and diplomatic positions on settlements into the agreement. Bennett was there to make sure she stayed in line and Israel's interests weren't sacrificed.
13. Be interesting to see what the deal is
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (11.27.13)
The rumour is that Tzipi and Bennet have had to assure the EU that the money will not be spent in the West Bank. If this is the case, the Israeli government has formally recognised that the West Bank is not a part of Israel proper Will be interesting to see the finer points of the deal
14. Is Israel the ONLY one the EU targets?
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (11.27.13)
Answer, YES! Nothing of real 'occupying' forces, 'illegal settlements' etc. Nothing of Syria, the Arab Spring, Muslim genocide, land stealing? Walls build in Turkey to keep fleeing Syrians out? Hmm, good ole' boy anti semitic Nazi Network still alive and well at the EU. E verything U nclean and E xtremely unhealthy. BUILD MORE JEWISH HOMES!!!
15. # 1 Why would Tea Party be infuriated?
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (11.27.13)
You presume you assume. Any facts ? Or, just spouting?
16. # 6 LOL think of this too
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (11.27.13)
Israel is not interested in what an anti semitic anti Israel USA or UN thinks. She is solely responsible for the Israeli lives that all others forgot in WW11. Iran survived sanctions, so will Israel easily. NEVER AGAIN!! Plus, MORE HOMES IN ISRAEL BEING BUILT EVERY DAY BUT SHABBAT.
17. #13, "Sarah B", exactly the opposite is true.
Jake   (11.27.13)
No need for rumor. Do your own research. Starting with reading this article. "According to understandings reached by the EU and Israel, the agreement would include a clause stating that any entity working beyond the green line be able to apply for loans. Israel will clarify its objection to the outline of the settlements ban." The 2 sides formally agree to disagree. An appendix was added to the agreement stating that Israel does not recognize the validity of he EU position on settlements either diplomatically or legally. Secondly, Israeli companies operating on both sides of the Green Line will have their own individual agreements with the EU regarding the allocation of funding, because the State of Israel will not be party to aiding and abetting the EU in enforcing long standing discriminatory policies. Because Israel's policy is exactly the opposite of what you claim.
