If the civil law says medical procedures on a child require the consent of the custodial parent or parents then THAT law should be followed. The rabbinic courts should have no standing on the matter. The issue of circumcision and the divorce issue aside, this is a rabbinical court and as such it cannot enforce its decisions. They cannot force a circumcision nor can they fine someone. I ask the author to make a proper distinction when describing the issue with words such as "ruled a decision" "district court" and all that as one can easily confuse it with a civil court.

Something is really wrong in this country if a court dictates to mother to ruin the integrity of her child's body. Circumcision isn't an obligatory matter. The boy has to make decision once he'll become an adult. I personally never had a say and i really do not like this. The parents are not divorced, and if they become divorced there is a tendency to give joint custody. The father has the right to give his son Bris Mila like any other Jewish father, and the court has confirmed that right. In Israel where Jewish and Muslim boys are circumcised the father is doing what is normal. In post WW II America about 80% of boys were circumcised. Today more than 50% of American boys are circumcised -- and medical research supports circumcision.

You are are right about the brit. A "brit" means covenant and every male must be circumcised if he is a descendant of Abraham for otherwise he will be cut off from his people. Really, the father has no decision rights what should be done to child's body. When he performed his schtick the outcome could have been a girl, so he forfeited from the start what the outcome could be. The woman has more right to her child's body, probably, but only in consensus with the child himself, which can come at a legally approved age of the child. With this opinion, hereby put in writing, I am formally petitioning the Supreme Court in Israel to throw out this father's request to force a circumcision.
