Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (12.02.13)
such as Britain or Israel the neutral head of state only speaks with the agreement of the Government. If the Knesset has agreed to Peres's interview why is the contents secret? What are all the Arab leaders allowed to hear from Peres that Israelis are not allowed to hear ?
2. was this legal?
Adam Eliyahu Berkowi   (12.02.13)
It certainly exceeds what is permitted the president. But peres career has been characterized by exceeding his authority and ignoring legal boundaries.

meyer ,   isreal   (12.02.13)
the sell out of the jews in the westbank. that's what's on the table. the surrender of the jew to the hollow promises of the arab sunni leaders. that's what they don't want us to hear. and by the way tomas friedman and the new york times? what's that about?
5. Thanks G-d for Peres
Sam ,   Kfar Saba   (12.02.13)
... and when he goes one day we hope for a suitable replacement. Someone that can rise above fear and engage a hard-to-believe vision.
6. Peres
Lee Lipman ,   Leeds   (12.02.13)
Some Israeli's (not the majority) do not realise what an asset Peres is. He is also widely respected on the international stage. Long may you be with us sir.
7. Why Are Foreign Jews Dictating to Peres?
norbus ,   Jerusalem   (12.02.13)
Peres in the only credible high officer who can send the mixed message complementing the hard lines which at times have to be taken He does the fool at times, eg in Mexico on what might be ignored as Civil Partnerships but not same sex marriage, given the age of marriage institution in the Judaeo Christian societies The speech warms a key to open a door, that, for all Muslim countries to recognise the Jewish State. The only meaningful accord to reach , since the Palestinian Arabs have very little say in the established Arab states who have used them and continue to do so Be sure Peres does not say anything of import , unless cleared by the Government
8. It just goes to show what's the REAL threat to world peace
Conroy ,   Toronto   (12.02.13)
The mullahs of Iran. The Arabs have always known this and even non-Arab Muslims know it too, as evidenced by the participation at this summit. The so-called "Islamic Republic" occupying Tehran needs to be defeated, for the sake of the world and also the Iranian people - they deserve freedom from this tyranny.
9. Shimon Peres the Belorussian..
Joya Gedalov   (12.02.13)
Knows to speak arabic language, big deal! he was jelous of itzhak Rabin diplomatic successful career! Peres was considered for decades pro-arab interests and an enemy of the israeli State, tell us how in a democratic country he was able to become twice Pm of Israel but never by popular vote in parlamentary elections!

11. The President and his constitutional role
Jacob Edelman ,   New York,USA   (12.02.13)
This is indeed interesting and I hope a good platform to pull common interests to the foreground to forge better ties or better understanding of each others' concerns. However, I do not want to spoil the fiesta as I have two questions: a) Does President Peres has a transformational role as in the Israeli Constitution in matters pertaining to International relations and b) how much he is listened to in general by the Israeli public and Prime Minister Netanyahu. We have reached a stage where good feelings do not prove peace forward unless we deal with the core issues poisoning the Arab-Israeli relations. Fair, just and equitable peace make such interventions historic . I only hope that President Peres has that type of touch.

Dont you think that what Israel need is a ban on pensions for politicians!!!??? Or an end to the benefit system that enriches elected officials and gives them incentive to stay in office (like the old Shimon Peres or the young Stav Shaffir) and be rewarded with a financial advantage in the name of public services?
