1. Israel didnt exist for thousands of years either- how dumb.
Max K ,   Ny,NY   (12.06.13)
2. Israel doesnt need a Chief Rabbi-Israel needs a High Priest.
Jake ,   USA   (12.06.13)
3. One Rabbi to many
Ike ,   Chicago, USA   (12.06.13)
Israel could also do without a space cadet President, but sometimes form is a good thing.
4. How much do all these "Chief Rabbis" cost Israel each year?
Mighty Jew Young. ,   ATLANTA GA USA   (12.06.13)
I say if you absolutely must want one, have just one HEAD RABBI who should be a "figurehead", an unpaid VOLUNTEER for BIG public relations who goes around blessing all the very Jewish practioners and always welcoming, supporting Jewish Aliyahs at the airport, hotels and restaurants... (and maybe those lost Beduins too).... NEEDED: a fine, kind -never self righteous- gentlemanly (or female rabbi) a lovely warm humane diplomat like President Peres, but at little or no cost! Ashkenazi, Sephartic, or secular, It's all the same to me. Maybe a stipend for travel, but he (or she) should be financially independent so as not to be a burden on fellow Isrealis or to enlist on a state sponsored career... The Head Rabbi should be a shining star (of David) to the heredi as well...as somebody needs to control their panicked outbursts against working, laboring, or doing any service or letting "live and let live" thrive in a democratic country, a freedom loving Jewish way for all. That's why you really need a -cost effective- PR expert, head rabbi who will also disarm and demilitarize the ultra's modesty police while he's (she's) at it..
5. QURAN AND TALMUD
daniel   (12.06.13)
the talmudic references given it can see that the rabbis, the spiritual descendants of the perushim-pharisees are actually not of G-d but of the same spiritual source as islam, they are of their father satan, having left torah behind and replaced it with talmud and quran, talmud is no different from quran, both of them are unholy
6. daniel #5, you are a evil jew hater
...DACON9   (12.06.13)

solomon ,   bklyn   (12.07.13)
Talmud is very different than Quran in many ways, the least of which Talmud does not urge Jews to kill those who refuse to accept Judaism. And Talmud contains rabbis discussing, not G-d pontificating. Read them, then post.
8. Israel needs to learn Yirmeyahu 31.33
Restorer ,   Israel   (12.07.13)
9. Chief Rabbi -to be or not to be
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (12.07.13)
The current idea of a chief rabbi is an phenomena of the diaspora so that rulers could easily deal with their Jewish inhabitants. If we in Israel really believe in that modern Israel is the rebirth of Judaism then we must behave that way. We should not have any chief rabbi. Kosher laws & Marriage-Personal Status rules and laws should be handed by a government committees with representative of all branches of Judaism. To be one nation we must meld the old branched of Judaism into one new branch Israeli.
10. Torah of Moshe
Tehilim 119.97 ,   PromisedLand   (12.06.13)
One rabbi too many. Per Torah this right on. God never ever chose these rabbis. Mikdash should be rebuilt then nobody will care for rabbi. Some people do not think. They rather have tradition over the word of God which is Torah. Vayikra 11 has all the kasher laws.
11. Rabbi….s
JOE ,   Venezuela   (12.06.13)
In my opinion and to be fair and respect all in that democracy, we should have the following titles: - one rabbi Ashkenazi - one rabbi Sfaradi - one rabbi Sfaradi oriental rite - one rabbi Sfaradi european rte - one rabbi Ashkenazi oriental rite and we should make everybody happy why not ?
12. #5 , reading PressTV is bad for your brain
Jake ,   USA   (12.06.13)
Talmud and Quran are two totally different documents. One is the founding document of Islam the other is legal jurisprudence on Jewish law from the Bible. Seriously, get educated before making a fool of yourself on this forum.
13. God rules Israel
T'Shuvah ,   Brazil   (12.07.13)
If the God of Israel gave clear instructions on how to act in the land of Israel and outside it gets to be an affront Israel is a secular state, Israel is and always will be a Jewish country.
14. # I hate talmud because talmud teachs hatred
daniel   (12.07.13)
15. #7 solomon
daniel   (12.07.13)
talmud is the same than quran, talmud teaches to hate goys as quran teaches to hate non muslims, idf kills goys and jihad kills non muslims, the difference are:talmud is about superior race and quran superior religión.Look at the middle east wars for the last 65 years, read talmud and quran and you understand why there is so much hatred there. Both are far away from torah and the commandments and follow men traditions:talmud and quran
16. Two and more Rabbis too many!
David ,   Israel   (12.07.13)
For Israel to survive we have to bring in separation of religion and state. Not doing this will result in massive "yerida" or emigration of Secular Jews of even Civil War!. In both scenarios it will be the end of Israel because the Ultra-Orthodox will not fight for the Home of the Jewish People until the Messiah comes, and he ain't coming, the secular won't be here to save the Haredim fro the Muslim murderers!
17. 4 A lot less than the High Court
S Judah ,   jerusalem   (12.07.13)
and they do a better job as well. And its not true that there has never been a Chief Rabbi - for many hundreds of years until the last centuary there was the office of the Chaham Bashi a Sephardi Position who was in fact the Chief Rabbi of pre state Israel. So to you seculars and disrespectors of tradition and particularly Sephardi tradition, please be quiet and stop trying to impose your nonsense on us the majority.
18. Does Israel need a ceremonial president
Alon   (12.07.13)
A state has some pomp (Peres) and cirumstance
19. We don't need religion at all
(12.07.13)
Separate religion and state now. Religion is a private matter that belongs to the private sphere
20. two out of many
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (12.07.13)
If the idea of having both achkenazi and sefardi chief rabbis is that they represent different traditions, than there should be also a Temani chief rabbi and a kes (ethopian) chief rabbi. The achkenazi should be divided in hassidic and lithuanian. The hassidic , in order to avoid problems, should have Bobov, Belzer, Guerer , Viznitz, Klozenburg, Alexander, Sandz, maybe Satmar and so on chief Rabbis. Or maybe we just keep two, or one. Who cares, as long as kachrut is properly supervised
21. So you know you replace ancient with Medieval: Reformer!
Restorer ,   Israel   (12.08.13)
22. Seperate state from religion
Haim ,   TA   (12.08.13)
Time to seperate state from religion. Its an outrage that the secular public are expected to fund this. If those who wish to practive chicken swining , child genital mutilation and other such primative customs, let them do it in their own spare time and at their own exspense.
23. Two too many...
