1. Democracy and occupation?
(12.19.13)
You really think the two can work together? Reminds me of the ancient Greek form of democracy - it was only for "free men". Slaves and women were not entitled to it. The world has moved on since then.
2. Taxbreak for Israel's enemies?
SHALOM ,   7U.S.A.   (12.20.13)
3. #1 - what occupation?
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.20.13)
Claiming land from which Israel has been attacked time and time again, with no indication from the enemy that they want peace? The opposite is heard, with the PA declaring any State they may have as judenrien, and Hamas still wants to kill the Jews. Claiming land that had been a Jewish State, when there was never a State called Palestine? Claiming land taken over by the Muslim Invasion of the late 600’s AD, as if that date is the dawn of history? You live on a very strange planet. Read some history, then post. Don’t believe everything you think.
4. #1 why don't you ask America or the UK
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (12.20.13)
They have many occupations and colonies around the globe, as do countries like the Netherlands, Spain, France, Denmark, etc. etc. Oh and by the way - this is our homeland. How does one occupy their own lands exactly?
5. #1 Read the article again
Tahl   (12.20.13)
Handel does not justify the "occupation". On the contrary, he stresses the importance of human rights organizations - so that "important balances are maintained in favor of minorities in the society." This of course, includes speaking out for the rights of the Palestinians. The main argument here is that these organizations must state their case without inciting and subverting against Israel's existence as a Jewish state and a democracy where all minorities have equal rights. And in case you hadn't noticed - he points out that extreme right-wing organizations are just as dangerous as the extreme left, in this respect.
6. Yoaz I am disappointed in you
Stan ,   Israel   (12.20.13)
You compare Kahane Chai a Jewish fascist organisation with groups that work for human rights.
7. Second class citizens
Stan ,   Israel   (12.20.13)
For centuries our people suffered this fate. Now we are doing the same to other people. I find it very disturbing that Yoaz sees no problem with this.
8. All radicals are equal, but leftist radicals are more equal
Ploni ,   Tel Aviv   (12.20.13)
Oh, wait... There is a difference; Kahane's party was outlawed while these radical leftist hate groups incite violence, advocate for ethnic cleansing, and oppose coexistence, all while receiving tax breaks from the Israeli society.
9. Wrong, K. Chai fought for Jews, the left is against Jews
(12.20.13)
There is no difference between the Kahane Chai movement, which undermined the strength of the Israeli democracy, and a radical organization working to boycott the State of Israel because of its Jewish identity.
10. Kahane
Ben ,   Worldwide   (12.20.13)
11. Kahane seems wiser every year
Ben ,   Worldwide   (12.20.13)
12. enemies of Israel disguised as friends
Larry ,   LA (formerly)   (12.20.13)
how are we to tell who is our friend and who is our enemy? That is really the question. There is no question that many of our enemies pose as friends in order to influence and change our society. But how are we to tell who is who? Fortunately some of them give themselves away like Peace Now and B'Tzelem who are front groups to advance the Arab causes by convincing simple minded people of Israel's occupation without telling the whole truth about the situation; that it is the Arabs who perpetrate violence and terror attacks on innocent civilians that cause us to blockade access to our cities and borders. ONly once people begin to realize that not every person who appears to be 'liberal' is really liberal but rather is a undercover fascist who longs for the eradication of the Jewish state then we can begin to progress towards real peace.
13. Lemming..... Kahana was right!
Arthur ,   SF, CA   (12.20.13)
14. #6 Stan I am disappointed in you
(12.20.13)
Not one of the NGOs that Hendel condemns works for human rights: they all support Arab racial supremacists and deny that Jews are humans.
15. Kahane has been consistently right on every point
Hennypenny   (12.20.13)
Past, present and future. The journo-shmournos and patched-elbow coated academics have been WRONG on everything. This is a basic fact.
16. Kahane was a visionary, the only one thing we have to remove
tom ,   tel aviv   (12.20.13)
from his equation is "god" and then we shall be all right for hundreds of years to come. When the rest of this planet becomes really civilized & perfect, we shall without any doubt join the "Brotherhood of Man"; until then it's: SURVIVAL of the fittest!
17. #4 If you want to live in your homeland
(12.20.13)
then go to East Africa, where all modern humans originated some 200,000 years ago.
18. #5 The "extreme right wing organizations"
(12.20.13)
are not just Kahane Chai but the Israeli mainstream. Support of the settlement enterprise endangers Israel's existence as a Jewish and democratic state, because democracy and continued occupation don't work together.
19. photograph
david wolgroch ,   london uk   (12.20.13)
I don't know what is happening with these extremist left activists, but I love that photograph of the Israeli soldier punching the protestor in the face. Gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling in my gut.
20. After the next peace deal
(12.20.13)
several countries remove their amabasses from Israel, like it happen after the oslo deal. Many countries are very suprised that Istael still exist.
21. Re: Stan Israel
Kalmon   (12.20.13)
You represent the anti-Israel so-called NGOs here. We understand why you don't like light shone upon you. It's also become understandable why you are the one who protest so much about the continuous treason of these groups on the left.
22. #17 - we'll meet you there.
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.21.13)
But if you insist on living where ever you are now, Jews will also insist in staying where they are now; in the homeland they had before the "modern world" came into being (including Moslems).
23. Google "Edwin Black"
ASTRONAUT ,   SC, USA   (12.22.13)
Google this "writer" and see that he's just another "Son Of Holocaust Survivors" making thousands of $hekel$ with his lightweight journalism.
24. #23 astro
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.22.13)
And what, pray tell, does your post have to do with this article?
25. Foreign money supports sedition!
nadav ,   tlv   (12.22.13)
Like the US and other countries, Israel should NOT allow NGOs dealing with political issues to receive money from foreign GOVERNMENTS. They may receive funds from foreign individiuals and foundations, but not from the EU, UN or foreign governments. That is meddling and inappropriate! Image Mexico spending billions to organize and support the secession of US border areas with large Mexican populations, or if foreign governments gave billions to the Scottish, Corsican, or Basque secessionist movements? No country would tolerate such meddling, not even democracies! Israel also has a right to defend its democracy from foreign instigated sedition, treason, and sabotage!
26. #1
Daniel ,   Netherlands   (12.22.13)
West bank was conquered from Jordan, Gaza from Egypt. None of the were "ocuppaying". "Occupation" became the coin for trading principles from '67. I never hear Occupation of Tibet, Occupation of Lebanon from Syria, etc Go into marketing, try it with "apartheid" (with your friends only)
27. To No. 26
Bertram ,   London, UK   (12.23.13)
Not heard of China accused of occupying Tibet? Such accusations have been constantly made, even in relation to pre-communist China (hence the significance of the Dalai Lama). Even so, inhabitants of Tibet are considered Chinese citizens. Not so in the case of West Bank Arab inhabitants as far as Israeli citizenship is concerned. No apartheid, of course.
28. NGOs on confrontation line
Jerry Blaz ,   Tarzana, CA USA   (12.23.13)
We know from those cabinet members, etc., who are pushing for a bill that would hit NGOs who get outside funding with a cost of 45% of this funding from outside of Israel. The targetted NGS having agendas that those cabinet members disagree with would be the target of this bill if the democratic safeguards in Israel are lost with the passage of such a bill into law. The reference that Kahane Chai being equally susceptible to being caught in the webs of this proposed law is, of course, both spurious and ridiculous since that organization has been outlawed for years. But ask its former members how they feel about such a law as being proposed by these cabinet members, and you will find that they probably approve of it
