research when looking to marry. You never know what kind of nut cases people turn into once the marriage goes south. No small wonder people including myself refuse to marry. Was married once. I'll shack up so long as she pays some rent. You pay, you'll stay.
2. The woman is correct and should win this battle.

By the time this child grows up there will be full separation of religion from State in Israel and civil weddings will move from Cyprus back to Tel Aviv.
3. What i think
Uzi ,   Tel Aviv   (12.19.13)
is that generally it should be something for the mother to decide, but your research is one-sided completely. circumcision is healthier and much more attractive than non-circumcised, if you call yourself jewish and want your child to be jewish, this is the ultimate sign that confirms it for boys. by leaving your child like this he risks having to do the circumcision at a much later ago if he decides to do it on his own thru medical surgery, which then is a high risk for infection and other complications. in my personal conclusion the woman has the say about her child, but if you're asking me about my opinion ill say she definitely should give in and let him be circumcised (win/win). good luck

the mother to decide? The father who is from the same gender knows better what he is talking about.
7. issue is simple
david ,   new york   (12.20.13)
standard practice is the default and if one of the divorced parents wants to deviate from standard practice, then they need consent of the other parent. it is very clear that circumscision is standard practice in israel. similarly, if a divorced parent doesnt want their kid immunized then they should have to get approval from the other parent, since immunization is standard practice in israel

Uzi ,   Tel Aviv   (12.20.13)
ora, i dont think that its about experience. since the mother has given birth to this child, its her ultimate decision. if we look at this from a neutral point of view, the mother is the child's first care taker and the father the provider. if the marriage was working between the two i would partially agree that it's also the father's decision, but since the two are in a divorce process, i believe the mother should be in charge of a quiet big decision. that being said, i really hope for everyone's sake that she will allow the circumcision voluntarily. if this goes to court and the father wins the battle, it'll be a potential bad piece of news that europe could use in their case to forbid circumcision legally... just a thought :) lets hope she makes the right decision ;)

Because kids don't always decide to remain religious when they grow up. If the kid grows up and decides that he wants to be circumcised, he is more than welcome to do it on his own accord. Why force something on a child that he may later regret?
12. Circumcision is a small tax to be paid
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (12.20.13)
by Jewish males, in order to prevent cervical cancer from their future wives, regardless of religion, the mother of the boy should take this into consideration,Juan Peron the ruler of Argentina infected 2 of his wives with this deadly disease including Evita peron at the age of 35,plus, who knows how many more 15 year old teenagers,(his hubby) so,a minus, becomes a plus, saving lives.

Meanwhile, Africans are lining up to be circumcised because it cuts down the AIDS transmission rate and this women investigated circumcision and thinks it's safer not to? She's a liar with another agenda. No doubt the Supreme Court will side with her. Birds of a feather. . .
16. The woman is partly right
Avi   (12.20.13)
The issue of circumcision aside, a "rabbinical court" has no jurisdiction and may not force you anything. Not pay a fine nor circumcise your kid. The supreme court needs to make it clear in a symbolic ruling (as the rabbis already carry no weight in their decision but can lead to social pressure amongst the more religious and trouble the next time she marries). That aside, that leaves a parent that wants and a parent that doesn't want. So what's gonna happen? Seems more related to the feud of the divorce. But still, the rabbi court decision was nonsense and the civil court needs to make it clear.
17. All BS
Reuven ,   Netanya   (12.20.13)
If circumcision would be healthier as the majority here in Israel beliefs, then why are we still a minority in this world - surely all the other non-circumcised people would have had some serious diseases and their population would have decimated since the beginning of days ... on the contrary, instead we see that the most bright people in this world are not circumsised - hence the direct relation of a man's penis with his brain - hence a direct relation of the amount of stupidity going on in parts of the world were circumcision is custom.
18. No surprises
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (12.20.13)
In any divorce involving babies the Court has to make rulings where the parents cvannot agree. For two Jewish parents living in the Jewish state where Jewish and Muslim boys are normally circumcised, and where the parents have entered into a Jewish marriage, 'according to the Law of Moses and Israel', it's no surprise that the court ruled for the father's right to circumcise his son.

Rabbinic court should stay out of family affairs and go suck an egg.
20. Cervical cancer
NilsG ,   Helsingborg, Sweden   (12.20.13)
Further research on cervical cancer or, rather, the low percentage thereof, in Jewish women has linked it not to Jewish men being circumcised but to a genetical resistance to the HPV. Keep in mind that many other groups perform circumcision on little boys, e g, in Souht Korea the practise is wide spread, and, it has been in the U S, even though it is declining.

Of course there is scarring. I have seen this for myself many times. Sometimes it is quite irregular.
24. Does a rabbinical court actually have
Runner1983 ,   USA   (12.21.13)
the power to order this? My G_d, what has Israel come to? Who has oversight over the rabbis on this court? What laws, passed by legislators elected by citizens, are they upholding? How are these rabbis chosen to serve, and how are they removed from office?

Arn ,   Yehud   (12.21.13)
You are from Oslo. That explains your prejudice. Norway says circumcision is inhuman but you should see the seas turn red for miles when you slaughter whales by the thousands. For Norway that's acceptable.Your sensitivity to "inhuman" circumcision has of course nothing to do with blocking the perpetuation of the Jewish people.
26. #25 Dear Arn.
(12.21.13)
You accuse others of having prejudices, by saying: "You are from Oslo. That explains your prejudice." That's funny, but you probably don't get me. The rest, I agree with you. Shalom

Non sequitur. Please stay on target. The poster is reporting an EXPERIENCE, an OBSERVATION. The inhumane slaughter of wales committed by some Norwegians is completely beside the point.

iselin ,   oslo   (12.22.13)
I am from the good old USA. Does that explain my prejudice even better? By the way, 590 minke whales (the only kind allowed to be culled) were killed in 2013, a far cry from thousands. Minke whales are not much bigger than a large halibut. If you call attention to this because they are mammals and you don't like mammals being killed, just think about how many thousands (millions?) of cattle and sheep are slaughtered around the world daily. Is this a fair comparison?
29. 3 people
David ,   New England   (12.22.13)
I know three people (including my father) who were not circumcised at birth and later required it because of complications. I also know a guy whose girlfriend is pressuring him to get one.

NilsG ,   Helsingborg, Sweden   (12.22.13)
If you have a phimosis, get circumcised. However, this cannot be ascertained before puberty. None of my male friends, nor me, are circumcised and none of us has suffered any problems. This, however, is anecdotal, and is NOT a case against circumcision. If you want to get a circumcision, feel free. If you don't, likewise.
