I understand Israel is longing for reaching peace with the Palestinians. But seeing the last terror attacks by them I am pessimistic. By releasing terrorists who are hailed by Abbas as heroes I dont think this will boost peace. Moreover it is a trauma for the relatives who cannot understand. Shalom from Holland

No, it's not an answer. Despite moral objections to the death penalty I might be persuaded to support it if it worked i.e. it deterred muder. But is doesn't.The US continues to have a much higher murder rate than countries which do not have the death penalty. In the case of terrorism, suicide bombers - by definition - are not deterred by the fear of death. Indeed, you could argue the opposite.

What you report about the U.S. is true. The possibility of getting fried or a lethal injection has never made a psychopathic serial killer rethink his mad impulse. But you miss the point.
