1. old fashion article.
charles   (01.06.14)
It is 2014; not 1980. There is no validity to a window of oppoutunity. History has shown that there must be reality & continuity. If the window of opportunity closes, then by definition, there is no opportunity. The argument of isolation is also untrue. Israel is not not isolated because of the Palestinian issue. Israel's relations exist becaese Israel has something to offer. Most of the Western world is jealous of Israel economically. The writer should move on from 1980 to 2014. One more Arab State would literally destroy the entire region. Does the enlightened world want to take responsibility for that??
2. Israeli retreat brings terror, rockets & war.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.06.14)
The leftist idea that Israeli retreat brings peace insults human intelligence. It has NEVER happened and never will. Israeli retreat, from our land, brings nothing but terror, rockets and war. It is way past time for the Patriotic Right to rescue Israel from leftist lunacy forever.
3. If this were true
Alon ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.06.14)
The obvious conclusions would be: 1. There's no logic in continuing the "peace" talks, since they have no chance of success under Netanyahu. 2. History has shown Begin and Rabin made peace - no other left or right wing leader has succeeded - including Sharon. Since Sharon didn't make peace...the assumption that he was the last that could have made peace is stupid. He didn't make peace, remember? 3. Yes, John Kerry is a waste of time...as is Abbas, Lapid, Netanyahu and pretty much everyone else. Great...so your conclusion is?
4. Sharon Temple Mount stunt cost world 9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (01.06.14)
5. Very true article
Oliver ,   Eilat   (01.06.14)
Could not have it said it any better Bibi is afraid of his own shadow as he lacks the insight to see the bigger picture of what is going on.
6. What peace? Abbas said no to Kerry's deal
Rachel ,   US   (01.06.14)
7. Sharon a failed Prime Minister
michael Pielet ,   israel   (01.06.14)
Bibi is no Sharon! Bibi is not that fat! If Bibi were Sharon all would be lost.
8. Just make sure to involve Bibi in a serious legal scandal
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.06.14)
a la Sharon Crime Family and watch him "return" Israeli land en gros to anyone willing to claim it. No wait: he's already doing this in regard to Wadi Ara! Central Bus station in Tel Aviv goes next, to the rightful owners: the Eritreans & Sudanese.
9. forget not that it was under Sharon's watch...
Jack ,   San Diego, USA   (01.06.14)
...that Hizballah built its structure (and infra-structure) that was ultimately used against Israel during the Second Lebanon war.
10. Sharon was a general
arne ,   chicag usa   (01.06.14)
and the arabs were afraid of him.He had shown them thru deeds not words what he was capable of doing(Sinai--Lebanon) and the like.Bibi's very good and also very strong, but things have changed in the world. New players, new dangers. For the present there is no better player for Israel then Bibi.Let's not be to quick to second guess him.
11. Oh yea, Sharon brought peace.. Just ask the people of Sderot
Eli ,   Israel   (01.06.14)
Rockets flying and pieces of shrapnel and glass everywhere....
12. !! Netanyahu: Last PM to Sign Accords with Pals
Ovadiah ben Avraham ,   Jerusaelm, Israel   (01.06.14)
At Wye Plantation. Ehud Barak: no signed deals. Ariel Sharon: no signed deals. Ehud Olmert: no signed deals. Case closed.
13. Great leader Theory
So ton   (01.06.14)
The Great Leader Theory is not Certain in democracies .Roosevelt had to wwait till the Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor before the USA would go into WW2?Sharon was cursed for leaving Gaza and his Likud Party disowned him.Sharon would never Compromise on the Jordan valley Security or the Jewish Israel .In fact Sharon was focussed on Iran and nuclear proliferation not the Peace Process.
14. Bibi is smarter...
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (01.06.14)
15. Pretentious hodgepodge
Nu Beemet   (01.07.14)
The author knows that what he is writing is a false mind game; but his leftist mindset cannot let go of the old dogmas because there’s nothing to replace it with; he’s not going to become a rightist tomorrow morning, so what is he going to go on about? If Sharon were awake now, he would do EXACTLY what Bibi is doing, and maybe he would be even harsher, now knowing the results of his first pullout.
16. SHARON
John ,   Athens USA   (01.07.14)
If Sharon was such a great Peace maker, where is the peace? And giving away Gaza did what for the cause?
17. It's a shame
howiej ,   NJ/USA   (01.07.14)
It's a shame that the author forgets that when Sharon went to his supporters, before the "Disengagement", they voted to go against his proposals. What did he do? He went against those he asked to validate his moves and pulled out anyway.
18. Arik Sharon was a great military leader
Nachman   (01.08.14)
Arik was probably from the greatest military leaders but equally from the worst political leaders. He lied to his constituents went against the majority and expelled10,000 Jews from gush Katif which in turn became a hamas stronghold. How many rockets were rained in to Israel from that very area. Yes Bibi knows the truth that any short lived peace will bring in its tracks a war joined from all the boundaries. None of Israeli neighbors want Israel in their midst.
