Lapid was famous, he had never been in politics before so he was the new kid on the block beyond criticism. Te left felt betrayed by his Riki Cohen budget and he prime concern seemed to be haredi rather than peace or social justice. Labor have now got rid of Shelly and Herzog is now the new boy he has never held any high profile ministries and he has been smart enough to stay out the coalition to avoid making mistakes before election day. Lapid is now just another politician, in the polls he has dropped to around 10-11 seats so he wants to clean up his image and start supporting things the left care about.
