1. Please print a list of these precious towns
Czentstachowa?   (01.20.14)
2. poland, poland
Marcelo ,   Tel Aviv / Berlin   (01.20.14)
my great parents (Z''L) escaped from Poland and north Germany to Buenos Aires in the '20s, long before the '33 and the start of mass murder. Poland was, is and will allways be the worst source and anti-semitism. I still remember my great parents (Z''L) stories about polish people spitting at them in the eyes...Poland revolves me
3. #2
Tomek ,   Poland   (01.20.14)
My grandma lived in Chelm, a town in Eastern Poland with a large Jewish minority. If I told you her stories about the local Jews, your ears would bleed. Do I take these stories seriously? Nope. And I suggest you do the same. BTW, it is not Poland that revolves you. It's Copernicus.
4. 3 Begin WWII Jews from France didn't
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.20.14)
take the stories of Jews coming from Germany seriously either. The rest is history.
5. #3 Nothing to be proud of
Cynthia ,   USA   (01.20.14)
Your grandma's stories would not surprise us at all. This was the village mentality that allowed the Holocaust to be committed in Poland. The reason Poland is now a Jewish graveyard and they create virtual tours of decimated communities.
6. Marcelo and Tomek
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.20.14)
Yes Marcelo , in Poland there was anti-Semitism , not as extreme as the nazis , but it was there , even before WWII .On the other side , don't forget that more than 6000 Poles were awarded the Righteous among the Nation certificate by Yad Vashem . And many paid this help with their life . Don't forget that even an anti-Semite , who said that Poland would be better off without Jews , Zofia Kossack , was the founder of Zegota , an organization that saved around 2500 Jews . Tomek , before WWII there was already anti-Semitism in your country . A "numerous clausus" was instaured at the Warsaw Univ . Jews were harassed . Many Poles were also betraying Jews . Not to talk about the pogroms after the war . If you search , you can find many things to tell about BOTH sides . But not many Jews murdered Poles , in the other direction ......
7. 3Tomek Here a Chelm storyy
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.21.14)
A Jew asks the Rabbi:- Is it allowed to fly on the plane Shabos? - Yes,as long you keep the belt fastened. Then it is considered that you wear the plane.
8. Jews Should Boycott Poland
Eric R. ,   USA   (01.21.14)
The Poles spit on the memory of the millions of Jews gassed in their crematoria by banning kosher meat. 70 years after the Shoah, they don't allow the free practice of the Jewish faith, and they don't prosecute Jew-hating bigots who scream hate at soccer matches. And how utterly bizarre and sick beyond belief to make a business out of the Jewish towns that the Poles eagerly helped destroy. They can take their Holocaust remembrance and their phony contrition and shove it.
9. to #2 you are right, the antisemitism in Poland
lili   (01.21.14)
has nothing to do with second world war, people are mistaken when they hear about jewish slavery they think on Moses and Egypt, but jews were slaves by the hands of the Polish only 80 years ago.
10. #9
Tomek ,   Poland   (01.21.14)
Those Jews in pre-war Poland were Poles who just happened to be Jews. Poles were not enslaving anybody, let alone their compatriots. I know you are trying to be outrageous but this is just silly.
11. 9lili Jews were slaves? Please explain.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.21.14)
12. #10 Nonsense and revisionism
Jake   (01.21.14)
"Those Jews in pre-war Poland were Poles who just happened to be Jews." That's typical historical revisionism, trying to whitewash history and sweep inconvenient facts under the carpet. Now that the Jews are gone, you conveniently try to "Polonize" the historical Jews. Prior to WW2 Jews were not regarded as ethnic Poles and were often not regarded as Polish nationals. Antisemitism was pervasive. The Nazis carried out their crimes against the Jews in Poland in an atmosphere of entrenched hostility to the Jews, and they knew it well and used it to their advantage.
13. 10 Tomek,The Polish Jews i know..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.21.14)
very well were jews who happened to live in Poland. My grand-father was the "Gibor "of the Stetel and was called each time Jews were attacked by drunken Poles. There has been assimilated Jews. My grand-mother who studied for lawyer, most probably came from such a society, from another town than her husband.
14. to #10 poles did enslave jews,
lili   (01.22.14)
Many writers did write about it, including the Nobel prize winner Isaac Bashevis Singer, his famous novel "the slave" based on Khmelnytsky massacre, the jews were sold to Polish farmers. all the events did happened in the 20's.
15. Foreign Country of the Past
Jo ,   Warsaw, Poland   (01.22.14)
Have you ever heard this term? It's a scientifically correct concept that societies and morality changes so quickly in the Western civilization that you cannot expect the same behaviour from people who live even two or three generations apart. All the data shows significant decrease in violence and hatred. That's the problem with Jewish people with some Polish roots, they hear some grandma's stories about some shameful acts commited in 1920's by poor, illiterate peasants and think they know anything about Poles living here now. I see Jewish people all the time on Warsaw streets, when was the last time you heard anything about them being attacked?
16. Lili , Khmelnytsky was a Ukrainian cossack
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.22.14)
who fought against the Poles in the 17th century , not in the 20's as you wrote . Didn't see any story about Jews sold as slaves [ exept in this NOVEL , by Y.B. Singer ]
17. to 14
rob ,   Poland   (01.22.14)
Khmelnytsky uprising took place in 1648 not 20's, and was Cossack rebellion against Poland. Who taught you history?
18. Jo 15 , Not only "poor peasants" ....
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.22.14)
What about the "numerous clausus" at the Warsaw univ in the 30's ? Or other limitations in business and other fields ? Most of the older ex Polish Jews I have met don't like the Poles at all , out of personal experiences there . That people change is possible , but you can't deny that this extremist radio station had great success .
19. to #17 rob and jo the cossacks sold the jews to the polish
lili   (01.23.14)
farmers in the 20's just because the poles didn't do any massacre it doesn't mean they didn't buy jews, in 1948 the jewish community did not exist in poland after the holocaust sigh... almost didn't exist. charles try also to read Anton Checov short story "sleepy", and "A man and his horse" he was outraged how the neighbour poles treat jews. also talk about jewish enslavement in the 20's.
20. Lili , only novels ! Not HISTORY
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.23.14)
21. Jake @ 13 - 'not regarded as Polish nationals' ,...
split ,   US   (01.23.14)
If that's the case than how was it possible that in October 1938 alone Nazis expelled (polenaktion) around 17.000 Jews with expired Polish passports to Poland? ,... They were not regarded as ethnic Poles because they didn't want to be identified as Poles, over 90% of Polish Jews were those you can see today in Beit Shemesh,, unruly, uneducated with ghetto mentality implanted in them by their spiritual 'leaders', over 75% in pre WWII Poland couldn't communicate in native language and 9 out of 10 read and write. By the way they didn't serve or follow the law just like your homies in Mea Shearim ,...
22. sprotje 21 . A piece of paper don't make
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.24.14)
people to be regarded as nationals . The same for you , your birth certificate doesn't make you a human being .
23. sprotje , a piece of paper don't make you
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.24.14)
to be regarded as a national . The same , you , having a birth certificate , don't make you to be regarded as an human being .
24. # 18 ,...
split ,   US   (01.24.14)
What limitations? Charlie you're an idiot, there was a certain amount of funds and students that could be admitted, Poles got turned away too. What other limitations in business and other fields? What the stopped to be a miner, farmer, lumber jack or soldier, what stopped them then and what stops them today anywhere including Israel to contribute like everyone else - You folks keep running your mouths but if anyone ask you to show any of those laws on the books you're gone to peddle your crap on other forum.
25. 24 ....
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.24.14)
The total number of students in Poland increased continuously between 1920 and 1935. From 34,266 students in 1921-22, it rose to 47,200 in 1935-36. In the same period both the number of Jewish students and their proportion in the total declined. In 1920-21 there were 8,526 Jewish students in Poland; in 1923-24 their number reached its peak figure of 9,579; but in 1935-36 their number dropped to 6,200, i.e., a decrease of about 35%. The proportion of Jewish students in the total number of students was 24.6% in 1921-22, 20% in 1928-29, and only 13.2% in 1935-36.
26. 21.Since poles are superior to Jews,
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (01.27.14)
can you tell me,why is it that illiteracy was so widespread among the polish population ?.the Jews could read and write Hebrew, the reason that many Jews didn't speak polish was that he poles excluded the Jews from all aspects of public life, education, comerce, government,so,Jews had to make a living with both hands tied behind their back,i realize, that was the pay back for killing a helpless innocent little god.
