He wasn't promoting discussion he was promoting one side which conveniently in Nitzan's side. The reports are clear he was insulting and demeaning students who disagreed with him. Yes discuss these things with students is fine. Indoctrination is not. The best teachers can teach about the issues and debates without interjecting their personal beliefs into the classroom. The worst teachers see the classroom as their bully pulpit.

When I attended Beit Berel teachers college, I had a teacher who said she did not want to discuss her political opinions with students. She didnt think it right to use her position as our teacher to influence us. I took her words to heart when I started teaching. My older students knew I was right wing, but I never talked about my opinions and I tried to foster an atmosphere of respect in the classroom for people with different opinions. KThere can sometimes a problem with professors in colleges marking student down who hold different views. This is a slippery slope we should not go down.

That us why parents here start thinking about what HS to send their kids to as they start 1st grade. Education is ALL about teaching, informing & socializing kids. Brain washing can & does occur at some schools, Did it happen here, I doubt it. Could it have happen, possibly. Teachers ARE entitled to their opinions, but they should also be clear (if presenting them) AS OPIONIONS, NOT FACT. Even in the 80's my US history teacher was still VERY careful NOT to inject his anti-Veitnam war opinions into our class discussions, even though it was obviously a challenge. What he did do, on many occassions, was make outrageous statements on many topics (devil's advocate) to get us to react and engage. But his personal opinion-only after class, THAT'S what is known as PROFESSIONALISM, something sorely lacking in this country.
