You talk about a visit to an extermination camp, and then you reveal that you mean Dachau. This was in fact just a "normal" concentration camp, unlike Auschwitz etc which really were "extermination camps". In Dachau people were "just" imprisoned, tortured, used for medical experiments etc. All parts of the same evil system, but still the term "extermination camp" should be applied correctly, or it might lose some of its deserved sinister ring.

Very good point made by Chris - the concentration camp Gudrun (the daughter) described is NOT an extermination camp. Very sloppy journalism to confuse these different things. Concentration camps, albeit very horrid places, was not intentionally murder camps. In fact, these existed many other places, and still do (i.e. North Korea). I also find it questionable to describe Gudruns remarks, as quoted here, as more algid (chilly). Nothing there implies that she has seen the worst parts of the Dachau camp. Quite possibly she only saw a lot of prisoners and no torture or death. Hard for a young girl to question why they were there, and what went on.
