1. Nonsense! Why should Israel be rewarded
lydia ,   Brisbane   (01.30.14)
For Israel 60Yof UN violations. The US taxpayers should contribute not a cent to rewarding Israels for it belligerent, illegitimate and entrenched violations despite some 250UN res.
2. Why is the obvious missed
Nachman   (01.30.14)
Mr abbas represents no one but himself. Most Palestinians in the west Bank and certainly Hamas do not recognize Israel. So the west bank will be infested with advanced weapons and Israel will be helpless in stopping . Planes from Ben Gurion will be at risk. Israel will be committing suicide if it ever made peace under the current terms.
3. If analysis stands up, it leads to clear solution
Norbus ,   JERUSALEM   (01.30.14)
4. BDS defines occupation as having started in 1948 not 1967
Right   (01.30.14)
this analysis mistakenly assumes that BDS is about activity beyond the green line when an accurate analysis shows that activity deemed problematic is termed occupation stated to have begun in 1948 (and not 1967) for the BDS types when Gaza and the West Bank were 'occupied' by Egypt and Jordan respectively perhaps the underlying argument is correct but it gives far too much relevance to the stupidity of the boycott movement which it proceeds to misidentify
5. Good and interesting article, thanks. Different perspective!
Michael Redbourn ,   Lisbon Portugal   (01.30.14)
6. Israel offered PA 95% of the land in 2000 and PA said no.
bob k ,   orlando fl usa   (01.30.14)
The PA does not want an agreement because they reject everything offered and feel no pressure to compromise. They know that the world which rushes to trade with Iran as it calls for Israel's destruction will have no problem backing Arabs against Israel. A very difficult situation BUT we still have the land. Can they take it without negotiating? As for them becoming part of Israel as some fear - then their calls for statehood were bogus.
7. Why build settlements in the first place?
Harri ,   EU   (01.30.14)
Building settlements on the occupied land is a self destructive idea. You should have known better. You should consider leaving the settlements on the Palestine side of the border. Settlers can stay and start paying taxes and rents to the PA. Sooner they start paying taxes to Palestinians, sooner they are accepted as productive members of the new state. If you moved to US and tried to keep paying taxes and rents of US property to Israel, you would not be welcomed there either.
8. such illusion
(01.30.14)
If there was one jew left living in a houseboat off of TelAviv there would still be an arab jihad against The Occupation and no peace. Of course they sure get along nicely with their own kind right? Lol.
9. Monkey's hand is stuck in bottle pulling out orange...greed
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (01.30.14)
10. Why $ 34 Billion? All they need is a tank full of gas
Clara ,   NYC   (01.30.14)
They can go back the same way they came, driving with a full tank of gas or a bus ticket. Why 34 Billion dollars?
11. The cost of peace, the price os boycott
Harold ,   USA   (01.30.14)
Excellent article. War mongers have to read this article three times a day for one week to understand what's the definition of peace and boycott.
12. Learn From The History of Gush Katif
emanon ,   USA   (01.30.14)
Did Israel have peace after pulling out of Gush Katif? Not just "No", but "Hell No"!! In fact, the terrorstinians saw this as a huge victory for their side. Will removing Israelis from areas of Urban Expansion yield a different result? Hell No, again!! All that will do is reduce Israel even more. What will happen to these lands? The same a Gaza: the terrorstinians will remove any trace of civilization left behind, cry poverty and then turn the new land into more launching grounds for terror attacks against Israeli civilians.
13. why should they leave?
avi ,   nyc   (01.30.14)
If Israel can be saddled with Arabs , maybe "Palestine" can be sanctified by the presence of Jews
14. "Analysis: Based on the disengagement experience"
Riva ,   Gush etzion   (01.30.14)
as the article says...we also learned that it was a DIASTER FOR ISRAEL! Not only did thousands of people suffer permanent damage both physically and emotionally as well as the soldiers who were used to throw people out of their homes, but Israel now has to deal with ROCKETS being fired from Gaza. We got no real benefit only tremendous loss! , We suffer more terrorism! Haven't we learned yet! Perhaps it is time to do something different! DO THE OPPOSITE. As hard as it is for many "not so religious people," maybe we should try have faith in G-d to protect Israel-PRAY A LITTLE TO HELP US!- that if we DO NOT GIVE IN TO TERRORISTS, THEN MAYBE SOMETHING UNEXPECTED AND GOOD WILL COME FROM THIS! It is sad that the world refuses to face the reality that we in Israel are like kidnapped people held hostage by VIOLENT THUGS who do TERRORISM TO US ON A DAILY BASIS IN THE NAME OF THEIR SO-CALLED CAUSE! And yet, these same people fail to understand that even among the Arabs, there are many who desire to be ruled by Israel! because the rule of the Arabs is crazy! -harsh, has the death penalty for the slightest offense, their leaders rob the budgets and become wealthy off the backs of their poor citizens! ....this is more like a dictatorship! We need to have faith in G-d!
15. The biggest mistake of all is.......
tiki ,   belgium   (01.30.14)
That Israel is following the Palestinian lie & EU/US twisted mindset that it has to retreat from it's own centuries old JEWISH heartland. Once you loose your soul of *who you are and question *why you are in Israel and not in Congo, you will lose the fight! It's not to late but Israel must stop the clock and reset the parameters because otherwise it will be to late and Israel will be helping to establish it's own demise, 'peace after peace'!
16. The most important support
David ,   On this planet   (01.30.14)
we are losing is the abroad Jewish supportt. When they see that you are willing to share Israel with your enemies, you don't mind giving your capital Jerusalem to your enemies and enjoy throwing out Jewish kids out on the street. Why would anyone specially Jewish support us, all for the sake of our wallet.
17. It may be why Bibi asks to let them be Palestinian citizens.
(01.30.14)
He might be expecting that almost all of the 120,000, except for maybe a few hundred fanatical Haredim, will choose to voluntarily evacuate themselves and do the state's job for it.
18. I HAVE A BETTER PROPOSAL/ PLAN
ALBERTO EINSTEIN ,   SAFED GENIUS   (01.30.14)
Rather than cruelly " evacuate " salt-of-the-earth jews from their homes and homeland, better to relocate hostile palestinians 40 miles to the east to Jordan ,their rightful place. Why is it kosher to be cruel towards our fellow jews ,Landsmen ,but not cruel towards our enemies . It is time ,in fact long overdue , that we put our own needs first before those of our enemies and stopped worrying about what the Goyim think.
19. We Can Beat BDS
A Simple Jew ,   Beer Sheva   (01.30.14)
The author proposes to lay waste the lives, and homes of 150,000 Jews and install a cruel enemy overlooking Tel Aviv and Ben Gurion Airport, without a fight. Why?? Israel can defeat BDS. Israel's policy should be to take BDS out of the PA's hide and the EU's hide. Israel can retaliate against a boycott by seizing the 1billion dollars per year in customs duties it collects for the PA. It can impose a crushing counter boycott on the PA. It can block EU/ PA development projects, embargo PA trade with the EU. Israel buys 20B Euros annually from EU, but the EU buys only 14B from Israel. Israel can cost the EU 20B in lost sales. We can buy from the US and Asia. Israel reduced the EU's trade deficit by 4% in 2012. Those EU businessmen don't want to lose Israel's business. Anti-Semitism is easy when it is cheap. Israel can make it very expensive for our enemies. We don't have to give an inch.
20. 1.
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.30.14)
Breaking news to you dummy, the US cannot afford to ''contribute'' a dime; the US is in debt up to it's teeth to China. Look forward to another 60 years, plus, of UN violations! Eat your heart out dummy!
21. Hebrew U and Ben Burion will become more dangerous
Rafael ,   Sydney, Australia   (01.30.14)
One missile that hits a plane coming to land will cause a huge economic impact. Killings and danger on the road to Hebrew U will also cause a huge impact, for students and people in suburbs like French Hill. And for what ... does anyone really think the Pali's will stop at this.
22. Their turn to evacuate!!
rinah   (01.30.14)
Why should we evacuate again? What's going on here? David is facing Goliath (the Goyim); don't be fearful! Use the Rock (Torah)!
23. The Cost of Peace, the price of boycott
Joe Lyss ,   United States   (01.30.14)
This article is very realistic and brings up all the issues involved in reaching a peace settlement with the Palestinians. We have a complicated situation and without compromise from both sides, nothing will happen and the status quo might continue for more generations creating an even more complicated situation. Not looking at the issue of why this situation exists today, the faster we realize that compromise and creative approaches are needed to get to an acceptable outcome,, the better off the world will be.
24. Why not put that money to good use....
SK ,   Tel Aviv   (01.30.14)
And offer financial incentives to individual Palestinians to voluntarily resettle outside Israel and the territories.
25. Disengagement
Kevin John Lee ,   Barrhead/UK   (01.30.14)
"Looks Great on Paper" Israel opened the Door in "Oslo" ever since that glimpse ! its been impossible to Shut that Door !, so caution & a Landscape view must be Observed. A nimble can look less dangerous & unseen but soon You will find Jerusalem gone & Look who resides in Jaffa ?. Shalom Rav !.
26. Settlements ought be Military
Zechariah   (01.30.14)
The settlement ought military making Rockets to fire on our inevitable enemies or basics for the poor in Israel and irrigation systems for Africa plus Vaccines payed for by Oxfam.
27. Paying for resettlement - HA!
Eldar ,   Haifa   (01.30.14)
Most of the settlers moved there seeking cheap villas, exploiting heavy government subsidies. They knew what they were getting into. Just stop subsidizing housing there and stop with all the insane government-sponsored initiatives, and most of the settlers will come home by their own free will. The hard core settlers can pay their own way or enjoy being second-class citizens in a Palestinian state.
28. To #1
Andy ,   Israel   (01.30.14)
Why should the UN farse which has Iran and Syria pronouncing to Israel about human rights gain Israel's respect? The UN has 23 Muslim block vote brings up ridiculous motions about Israel which are them passed. Israel gets condemned in UN resolutions, for building a toilet on the West Bank, being cruel to Syrian citizens (!) by Syria etc etc. Very few fo the UN resolutions are justified, whilst appalling regimes never have resolutions against them. Stuff the UN
29. If a rocket hits a plane, factory the cost will be billions
Scott ,   Ramat Gan   (01.30.14)
The cost to the Israeli economy would be staggering if a shoulder launched rocket took down an airplane or if a missile hit a factory or high tech area. If a plane were taken out, tourism in Israel would grind to a halt. Giving up Judea & Samaria would give terrorists the ability to do this. The EU has never called for a general boycott of Israel, only products from the settlements. In regards to "ruling another people", the palestinians have self-rule. They can be an autonomous state like dozens of others throughout the world.
30. Actually there are 500,000 settlers
