3. a better solution
(01.31.14)
Let's follow the Peres / Herzog / Livni plan and give Iran and Jihad bases in the Jordan valley instead. Basij, Hezbollah and Al-Qaeda forces will appreciate this gesture and protect Israel from her enemies. What could possible go wrong?
4. He speaks like a small child

Jordan vally is in Israel or in some Arab state (with IDF like in Philadelphia corridor). There is no 3rd choice.
5. Complete Nonsense...
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (01.31.14)
As always Israel tries hard to market its bogus arguments . After the 1967 war Israel claimed the Sinai and the Golan Heights were the best and deepest buffer zones against any attack by Egypt or Syria only to be proven wrong in the 1973 Yom Kippur War . Likewise, Israel's occupation of South Lebanon for two decades proved futile and costly in the face of Hizbullah attacks . The same can be said about the Gaza Strip . Even the much-vaunted , Israeli-made Merkava tank was claimed to be the best heavily-armored tank in the world only to be easily destroyed by Hizbullah's modern anti-tank missiles . And Iraq , despite being quite distant from Israel , did not have any problem pounding Tel Aviv and Haifa with missiles in the 1991 war . Hence modern weapons have greatly reduced the value of buffer zones. The only solid guarantee for Israel's long-term survival is a fair and just peace between Israel and the Arabs .
6. This land is ours. Stop talking about "security".
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.31.14)
Judea and Samaria are part of Israel as California is part of America. Stop talking about "security" and let's claim our land!
7. # 1, 2, 3 You're not going to like this
Stan ,   Israel   (01.31.14)
What # 5 writes is true and accurate. You can check the statistics about how many Israelis died in or near the Gaza Strip until 2005 and after. How many died in or near Lebanon from 1982 until the the withdrawal in 2000 and after. What is "strategic depth" if rockets can hit any point in Israel? 'In any future peace agreement Israel's demand that no enemy forces cross the Jordan from east to west will and can be guaranteed
8. Jordan Valley

Major-General Ron-Tal, you wrote: "An IDF withdrawal from the Jordan Valley will leave the State of Israel without vital strategic depth". Of course you are right! And as a high-ranking military you know what you are talking about. There is no reason to give up the Jordan Valley and no other territory either under pressure, because there is no International Law that can compel the State of Israel to withdraw from any territory. Israel is protected by Article 80 of the UN Charter, about settlement between the Sea and the Jordan River, including the Golan Heights. In an article written by Jerold Auerbach, professor emeritus of history at Wellesley College we read: " With their careful draftsmanship, Benzion Netanyahu (the late father of the actual PM), Peter Bergson and Rabbi Wise extended League of Nations guarantees and secured United Nations authorization for Jewish settlement throughout the homeland of the Jewish people...Persistent efforts to undermine the legitimacy of settlements, according to international legal expert Julius Stone, have been nothing less than the Subversion...of basic international law principles... Article 80 has never been repealed. But Benzion Netanyahu's son, Prime Minister Netanyahu, seems inclined to disregard it. During his first term he signed the Hebron Protocol, confining 600 Jewish residents to a tiny ghetto in their ancient holy city. Critics may insist that he remains under the influence of his father's right-wing dogmatism. But abundant evidence suggests otherwise, which is no doubt why his father often expressed concern that his son wasn't tough enough to serve as prime minister”.
