MR CYNIC ,   SAFED CYNIC HOUSE   (02.01.14)
As opposed to the silent Holocaust of assimilation .
2. If done in defiance, it is only to be admired, if out of
tom ,   tel aviv   (02.01.14)
"there are no atheists in the trenches" point of view- only pitied. If the Almighty needs a gun pointed at my head in order to convince me, then you may keep Him, thank you.
3. Where was God during the Holocaus??!
Alfredo ,   Raanana   (02.01.14)
I am a Holocaust who is NOT and can NOT be religious seeing how God (if he exists) abandon us. And if the Holocaust was "God's will" then he collaborated with the Nazis who "execute his will" . I and many Holocaust survivors I know want no part of such a ... "God". It is the ultimate hypocrisy to speak of an "All merciful God".
4. Before death, the truth comes out.

5. In response to Alfredo
Raph ,   Melbourne   (02.01.14)
Free will requires the capacity for evil. If the Jews were saved by divine intervention, then we would be compelled to perform mitzvot for fear of divine retribution. That would abrograte free will and everything that the Torah stands for. It is unfortunately essential that bad things happen to good people. Otherwise there can be no faith, no free will and no meaning to the Torah. Rashi knew this and so do I.
6. #3, He wasn't for us during the Holocaust, this is clear.
Michael ,   California, USA   (02.01.14)
Eighty percent of my family went and the g did nothing. Can there be a better proof for me that g doesn't exist? My anger is without limits and I will never change my mind.
7. Ora 4 . Truth ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.01.14)
If they had to die because of a Jewish descent , even if they were not believers or converted , at least to die as a Jew . The truth is that no G-D [ for you in capitals ] was there to protect them , no even to protect the 1.5 million children who were murdered . And then , in the "el male rachamim [ !!!! ] you say "al kedoushat hashem" ....
8. Those who returned
Danny ,   London England   (02.01.14)
My great aunt and uncle were pre-WW II Hasidic Czech teens. Post Auschwitz they arrived in Palestine, met and married and lived a secular Israeli life. My great uncle rose to be aid-de-camp to Moshe Dayan. They raised their children as secular Israelis -- but eventually they returned to their youthful Jewish observance, quite a surprise to their secular children and grandchildren. They had made their peace with G-d and returned to the path of their fathers and mothers. We can never know what they went through.
9. Parents and children
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (02.01.14)
On the eve of WW II Britain accepted about ten thousand Jewish children from occupied Europe, and tried to accept another about forty thousand into Palestine during the war through Turkey and Bulgaria but the Mufti Husseini got Germany to pressure Bulgaria not to give the Jews passage. The USA was also asked to accept about 10,000 kindertransport, but the US Senate rejected the proposal on the grounds it was immoral to separate children from paretnts and refused to acvcept children or parents. Some Polish Jews entrusted their children to friendly Catholic neighbours during the Holocaust, only to find after the war that Pope Pius XII had ruled that no baptised children can be returned to the Jewish community.
10. 6Michael, Never say never.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.01.14)
11. Vienna and conversions
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (02.01.14)
Catholic Austria had a strongly anti-Semitic outlook. When the Strausses, parents and grandparents of the great Waltz composers, arrived in Vienna Mr Strauss eventually underwent a nominal conversion to Catholisism to help him as a Jew to get a job in Vienna. Sigmund Freud was determined to get some Christian disciples, so psychoanalysis would not be dismised as a 'Jewish medical theory.' The Furher, another Austrian, dismissed atomic research as a 'Jewish science' which is one reason Germany did not win the race to the atomic bomb!

Some turned to God, others joined the Judenrat in ghettos rounding up Jews for Nazis to be shipped to death camps, running a whore houses and 5 star restaurants with cabarets while their brothers and sisters were dying on the streets from cold and starvation, others like the the Group 13 in Warsaw a network of few hundred snitches selling the hiding Jews and hiding them Poles for a rewards to gestapo... it's time to write about them ,...
14. 7 Charles,still trying to convince me?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.02.14)
It is clearly written in the Tora what will happen to the Jewish people if they do not follow the Tora laws. All Jews are in the same boat and we religious Jews are responsible for you Secular Jews. What happens to you happens to us.That's why i resent the Orthodox Jews who are doing Hilul Hashem and make you dislike religion. Being connected to G-D fills me with love, happiness ,wellbeing and joy. Nothing you will say has any chance to make me want to give up all this. Have a fine week,Charles.

16. Better to combine the truth of obeying the Commandments to
Rivkah   (02.02.14)
show one's love for the Messiah with believing in the Jewish Messiah who came as Yahoshua as the Sacrificial Lamb and more recently as the Ariel Lion of Judah Sharon. He will come again as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Believing in the Jewish Messiah is the door to the eternal Kingdom. That is not JeZeus, a sungod creation of Emperor Constantine with a sungod Sabbath of the first day and exemption from obeying the commandments. The wall of Judaism and the door of the Jewish Messiah are the way to the narrow path up the mountain of the Lord to eternal life. Few there be that find it.
17. When the hearts of the Fathers (Jewish Patriarchs)
Rivkah   (02.02.14)
return to the Sons (Jewish Messiah believers including the Gentile branch grafted onto the faith with Jewish roots), then the Jewish Messiah will come as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
18. Ora 14 , not at all
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.02.14)
What is written in the Tora is for BELIEVERS . You know what I think about a G-D [ capitals for you ] who allows that children be murdered for "sins" they didn't commit . INNOCENT children and babies ! Stay what you are , I don't want to change it . Maybe you NEED this to live , to be happy .
19. @#5 Holocaust Returnees To Judaism
JeanH ,   USA   (02.02.14)
The Holocaust was MAN's design NOT haShem's! When the majority turns from Torah, Holocausts happen... even if man goes too far...remember the reformation movement of Jews away from Torah as given on har Sinai.

In 1944/45 Jewish lobby couldn't convince the Senate to allow 10.000 kids to entry US but just a couple of years later they managed to make the Capitol Hill and president vote for Israel at UN? Whoever was asking US to accept those kids it didn't have a support of Jewish lobby the zionist brass the Hollywood and loaded ones ,...

22. #20 change of President
Ronda ,   Seattle US   (02.02.14)
Your comment does not reflect change in the presidency. Roosevelt did not care to save Jewish children. Truman, against advice of state department, chose to recognize Israel, in part due to his childhood friendships. There is then the question whether Roosevelt's death was part of a greater plan.

The Senate didn't change and the presiden wasn't on your side ,... Google "Seeds of Doubt Harry Truman's concerns about Israel and Palestine " ,... "American recognition of Israel in May 1948, Truman was filled with doubt and regret about his role. The rosy portrayal of Truman’s unquestioning commitment to and constant sympathy with Israel, which is often linked to a picture of the younger Truman as a Christian Zionist, is dead wrong" ,... 24. split, #20, the US decision to exclude Jewish refugees
Jake   (02.03.14)
was based on antisemitism, which was rampant back then, and is now out of the mainstream (though coming back into fashion on talkback forums and blogs). After 1945, when the full extent of the Holocaust was revealed, it was becoming more and more untenable for the US government to carry on with business as usual. And by the way, it's a fact. On the subject of Zionism and the establishment of a Jewish State, Truman may not have been unquestioning in his commitment, but he was a damn site more supportive than Roosevelt.
25. Where was God? Read Deuteronomy 28 !!!

26. 20 Split, US: President Franklin Roosevelt turned away the
Rivkah   (02.04.14)
Jews and children on a ship. He died in office, perhaps in judgment from the Lord for that. It was another US President Harry Truman who had the USA vote in favor of the nation of Israel at the U.N. Different Administrations, different policies. It was also President Truman who let General Dwight David Eisenhower march 1.2 million German soldiers after WWII into a field and starved them to death. About 200,000 survived. That is why so many German women married U.S. G.I's: the marriageable German men were mostly dead.

See tb 27 which filthy letters he applies to the wonderful Jewish heritage, our ancestors brought safely to us ,through more than 2000 years while being hunted by murderous anti-Semites.Disgusting! Let me eat an apple to calm down. Oh...may be, with BS he meant the Book of Science .
29. about the jews during the Holocaust
shoshana ,   Ashkelon Israel   (02.04.14)
yes, many assimilated jews to being jews during the Holocaust. I was born in such a family, we knew we were jews, but it did't really affect our lives until the thirties. we lived in Paris, in 1939 I was 10 years old and I remember the mounting tension and the horrified faces of my parents while listening to the radio. at the conquest of the nazi forces of Paris we managed to run south, and later, in 1941 we went to Geneva, my nother was Swuiss and our grand mother lived in Geneva. My parent s became not religious but fighting, active jews, they managed to save jews trying to cross the swiss border .The swiss politic a the time was to not let them cross the border, but once they did, they did't send them back.our family return to jewishness was NOT religious, but proud and participating to some kind of resistance. The Torah says:"who saves one life saves a whole world"Every morning I found at the breakfast table 1 or 2 "guests". Do not critivise the non religious, resistants, do not underestimate them. The Warsaw guetto upraise in 1943 was the very first in all the nazi occupied countries it is a fact. these heroes refused to dye like sheep sent to butchery. That was their last action, they knew very well that they wouk dye but they first fought back as real heroes
