1. We know what's coming to Europe, so it doesn't matter much.
tom ,   tel aviv   (02.03.14)
They are simply making early adjustments for their children's future (actually: lack of it)
2. Europe is dying
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.03.14)
In twenty years -- if not less -- it will be unrecognizable. Good riddance. No one in their right mind takes Europe seriously. And if the individual European governments do not take steps to protect their Jewish populations, the State of Israel will do it for them.
3. To #2
Eric R. ,   USA   (02.03.14)
I am afraid that it will come to Israel having to use the IDF to defend Jews in Europe, whether it means firing on neo-Nazis in Budapest, on Jihadists in Malmo, or on raging leftists in Brussels.
4. Ahh - More Whining ..
Andrew ,   Miami,FL   (02.03.14)
Stop whining - make Aliyah Europe is is for Europeans - they are natives. Go to Israel - Be a Native - and then ask how you feel when a little minority keeps whining about how much they are hated picture getting clearer?
5. confused
sharpshin ,   USA   (02.03.14)
The Holocaust was the destruction of 11 million human beings by the Nazi regime. 6 million were Jews, 5 million were of other faiths. How in the world can you argue with Ashton's desire to "honor every one of those brutally murdered." I applaud her - although Jews suffered terribly, the Holocaust was a human tragedy, not exclusively a Jewish one. It would be respectful (of history and compassion) for the Jewish community to admit and embrace that fact.
6. European before Israel
Rael ,   The Netherlands   (02.03.14)
As a jew living in The Netherlands, I can assure you that I would rather live in Europe than in corrupt Israel or any other part of the world. I'm European and then a Jew.
7. How long do you think you can 'milk' this cow? ,...
split ,   US   (02.03.14)
8. If Ashton condemned anti-Semitism.....
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (02.03.14)
....should never be able to look her Iran regime buddies in the eye again and expect a lovely smile back. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
9. #6
Meisje   (02.03.14)
Its unfortuately not you who will decide what he is. It will be the Antismemites who will tell you that you are a Jew and not a Dutch. Thn you will understand it but sorry thats when it will be too late.
10. History tends to repeat itself....
Tegen Klodzakken ,   NY USA   (02.03.14)
Ik houd ok van die moi Nederlands. But those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I'm sure the Jews in Germany and Netherlands felt the same as you do about their respective countries.
11. ...and what great future can Aliyah guarantee Tom ???
Anthony Fallon ,   Manchester UK   (02.03.14)
I have got no sympathy for the Palestinian question whatsoever, i have always believed Arab Palestine to be Jordan. That said, i ha e read a lot aboutIsraeli civil society & it upsets me:- 1) The spine of the country is 9 miles wide, the ethnic minority popn within Israel's 1967 is around 22% VERY HIGH by European standards (=CIVIL UNREST). 2) Israel's poor treatment of Refugees & Asylum Seekers & many instances of overt racism against residents of colour. 3)No Israeli Civil Marriage System, absolutely disgusting in an advanced democracy, totally devalues the whole concept of being proud to be an ''Israeli'', not necessarily a Jewish citizen. 4) People with influence & money routinely dodging army service not to mention disgusting exemptions for Arab & Charedi citizens.
12. Most people like the Palestinians!
(02.03.14)
13. Not ignoring, but rather encouraging.
Jack ,   San Diego, USA   (02.03.14)
14. To #6 rael
Rod ,   Fargo N.Dakota   (02.03.14)
I have been told the Jews in Germany said the same as you
15. TO NR 6 RAEL
DAVID ,   ISRAEL   (02.03.14)
Rael that is exactly what my family said before being shipped of to Auschwitz. So I guess that you are not very familiar with the history of Europe and the Jews. And if one day you get your head bashed in , don't come whining to us about that , you have had enough warnings .
16. #1#2 Dream your little dream of "dying Europe"
Albrecht ,   EU   (02.03.14)
Europe is peacefull and united as never before. And YOU cant stand it.
17. to # 16 documentary by Zvi Yehezkeli
Oleg ,   USA   (02.03.14)
Peaceful? Are you all right? Find on youtube documentaries by Zvi and you will find a lot of surprises. This is good that Jews will leave Europe, because you can't even imagine what is in front of you. Poor naive Europeans less then one generation after WWII and you forget everything your own history tried to teach you.
18. #16 lol
Barry ,   Tokyo   (02.03.14)
peaceful & united...? If only so.. ahh the calm before the storm
19. The problem with articles like these....
Anthony Fallon ,   Manchester UK   (02.03.14)
Is that they categorize Jews as a Homogenous group who ought to oppose diasporo anti semitism with the same singular determination that Black people rightly condemn racism. Hitler considered 'invisible' Jews, including partial Jews (Mischlinge) to be the most dangerous. That said, many of these invisible Jews survived the Holocaust. My point is, Jews who do not identify as such in looks, name etc or in practical terms don't wish to, WHY would they wish to uproot their relatively comfortable existence and make Aliyah ??? Yael's post #6 illustrates my argument.
20. (6) Nederlander, European, World citizen
tiki ,   belgium   (02.03.14)
Keep on dreaming, so did the Jews from Holland in 1940 until the Nazi's & their NSB friends taught them otherwise. For the Dutch & the Europeans you will always remain the Jewish Dutchman, never the Dutchman..... don't flatter/fool yourself.
21. #16 what are you smoking?
(02.03.14)
check the gdp growth rates, unemployment, xenophobic laws etc etc. what a denial!
22. European before Jewish
Rachel ,   NY, USA   (02.03.14)
Rael: How nice that you think of yourself first as a European and then as a Jew. That's exactly what my great-uncle thought back in the 1930's when he refused to join my grandfather and great-grandparents in Tel Aviv before Kristallnacht. Instead. He moved to Amsterdam. Guess what? He didn't survive the Holocaust. You may think of yourself as a European first, but I'm not sure the Europeans do.
23. #7 how long will you be "milking"
(02.03.14)
if your kids are killed? Moron!
24. #21 I checked
Albrecht ,   EU   (02.03.14)
I checked "gdp growth rates, unemployment, xenophobic laws etc" and... ...Europe remains still the most peaceful, reach and popular area of the world. Best greetings from EU
25. Israel should prepare for a major wave of aliyah
(02.03.14)
I'm happy to see it's taken the necessary steps for French aliyah, but this should expand to all Europe, in fact all countries with major Jewish populations. First, Israel should recognize all degrees, second, Israel should increase funding and job placement for all European immigrants like it is now doing for the French, and third, it should work out solutions in regard to army service with many of them, since a lot have careers that would be disrupted. A major wave of Jewish emigration from Europe is coming, and if Israel doesn't take steps to welcome them, a lot of potential olim might go somewhere else.
26. #11 good question
(02.03.14)
With all the real problems in the world, why is everyone focussed only preventing us from living as free men in our own country? The fact is that whatever we do they will hate us, pound us and eventually kill us. Since we are going to die anyway, we'd rather go in a blaze of glory than give them the satisfaction of helplessly walking into the chambers again. Google the image "Good Jew Bad Jew" to see why we must stay in Israel.
27. #6, "Rael", isn't that a cult? It certainly isn't Jewish.
Jake   (02.03.14)
28. #5, Hitler's priority and obsession was to destroy the Jews.
Jake   (02.03.14)
All other considerations were secondary to that. He spelled it out in Mein Kampf, and he never deviated from his ideology one iota. It's dishonest people like Ashton that want to blunt this fact and "universalize" the Holocaust, without it dawning on them that it was the universal apathy of the world to the fate of the Jews that emboldened Hitler to carry out his plans with impunity.
29. Demonising the whole of Europe
Raymond ,   Paris   (02.03.14)
is damn insulting to all those Europeans who fought and died against nazism.
30. Patience, Albrecht, let time do it's steady work
Cameron ,   USA   (02.03.14)
The endless flood of useless Muslims pouring in will be a guaranteed destabilizing, social disaster for the EU. Your problems of aging, stagnant populations, unemployment, and generating sufficient revenue are nothing measured against a sullen Muslim populace that refuses to integrate into the society & values of the EU. They are poison itself for Europa, #16.
